      Judges at this kind of competitions are not the snobby self-professed "experts" - that's the rich people that want to spend money on a "classy" passtime. They are tough cookies that dont care about brand, package or anything unrelated to the flavour. You could serve them a boxed wine and if it tastes good they will be perfectly fine with it.

    Just to add context. Her sake was not the only one to get the Bronze rank. There were at least 20 other wines that got awarded as well. So it's not a "3rd place" award, it's more of a "high tier" certification.

    • @aringorski4786
      @aringorski4786 Год назад +755

      For further context, in the "Daiginjo sake" category, they awarded 11 golds, 49 silvers, 46 bronzes, and 76 lower commendations. I'm not sure how many entries there were total, but it seems like this is more of a "Top 50%" commendation and not the glowing praise other people are making it out top be.

    • @hilotaka
      @hilotaka Год назад +704

      @@aringorski4786 Yeah think it's less of a placement rating in comparison to other wines submitted in the competition, and more of a rating purely on quality as the trade as a whole. Theoretically, every wine submitted could have received an award if they were all of a certain quality. i.e. it looks like France as a country got 75 gold, 367 silver, and 442 bronze medals. That means across the board most of their wines are high quality. There are even higher, specific accolades outside of the medal rankings it seems as well.
      To be honest, that's even better for Lamy imo. It's not just a placement rank, it's proof of a damn good sake.

    Extra info I found for Japan's SAKE category:
    Medals: 728
    Commend: 758
    Total Entries: 1732
    About 85% of entries got something, 43% being commended, 42% being awarded.

    Wait, I thought the Lamy wine was just a meme, nothing more than a Hololive collaboration food/drink thing! I had no clue it was like, something that Lamy could enter into the International Wine Challenge.
    How involved is she with her sake's production process? I'm assuming she has some sort of marketing control if she was able to start the process of entering it into the IWC, but her comments about experimenting with flavor adjustments shows she has way more creative control over it than I thought she had.

    • @kittencutie7074
      @kittencutie7074 Год назад +13

      Very involved I hear... ppl say she talked about it in her streams too. It's like an artist who designs a bag and then send it to the manufacturer, make adjustments etc. So the artist is very involved and has the final say in the making of said bag. Lamy's case is similiar. She controls everything abt the making process
      This isn't just some marketing gimmick where they just slap her face on an existing product
      So yeah the award, it's really impressive

    This is the first Hololive clip I’ve ever watched, and I wanted to stop by and say thanks! Not knowing anything about Hololive, I watched this because I was looking for a cool story, and I absolutely got one! I thought it was noteworthy that a streamer was attached to something so acclaimed by a group of people who are notoriously hard to impress, and I really liked listening to her talk. That led me to watch more clips, and I learned that she does so much more than make sake and stream, and then I was hooked.
    Before I knew it, I was subscribed to more than half of HoloEN and was tuning in to streams while working at home. So thanks for that! And thanks to Lamy as well! I like these Hololive people very much.
