She's your president? Well, she is better looking than Donald Trump I'll give you that. By the way, doesnt she remind you of Catherine Zeta-Jones? Uncanny.
It is just so crazy how easily a lot of her fans dropped her after electra heart. But the fans who stayed and grew into 'Froot' REALLY understood her strategy and what she was trying to get across. 'Electra Heart' was such a theatrical and almost superficial album and i think a lot of diamonds understood that this was just an era; That her upcoming music wasn't going to turn into something that sounded like 'Electra Heart.' And Froot was a way of establishing herself as an artist thus creating her immense satisfactory in the era. She finally got her art across in the way that she had always dreamed. And I think that is why I respect her so much. Because she has worked so hard to develop and recreate her art and it happened. It finally and gradually happened and I feel a sense of this "Marina & The Diamonds" trilogy coming to an end. Because NOW she has defined herself as an artist and this upcoming music whenever it arrives is going to be experimental and challenging. I think this next era is going to be VERY different.
wow you were spot on with that prediction. I do however miss some of the old elements to her music that I thought were lost in L + F. I still think she is an amazing musician, but listening back to the demos of that album and what they turned out to be, I have hope that the next era might incorporate more of her signature style.
Same. Not only she's super talented and has the voice of an angel, she's extremely beautiful and has an amazing body but at the same time she's super intelligent and cares about important issues and is a strong independent woman. ANDDDD she is so down to earth and accessible (I've met her and seen her interact with fans). She is everything I hope to be in life
What an incredibly inspiring woman! I've been a fan of Marina for about 2-3 years and I remember her saying (this was very old by the way) that what she was complaining or talking about in her song "Girls" was that while she grew up there weren't many women that she could look up to in the Pop media. I used to feel that way until I discovered her actually! So thank you, Marina! You've become a true role model and a friend to me. Very proud of her.
Marina is such an unique woman. She is absolutely gorgeous, but also her talent, personality, and the way she presents herself is truly inspiring to me. Marina is down to earth. She presents herself, as herself! No pretending to be something she's not, not putting on an act so to speak. Her attitude towards life and the way she looks at the world, people can relate. She doesn't try to sugar coat any topic. She is a role model for me, and I know everyone that LOVES Miss Diamandis says that, but I mean that from the heart. In today's pop culture and society, there are not a lot of women out there who, personally, I can look up to, who don't try to sell their bodies to be noticed and earn fame and publicity. Even though I don't know Marina personally, I can tell by the way she presents herself, she's natural, easy going, sweet, kind-hearted, and funny, lol. I love that she also doesn't feel like she has to strip down in her shows, or pose in a magazine nude to get people's attention.
^^ She expresses herself through her music and that's how she gets people's attention. She has a beautiful voice, and I'm very happy to have a woman like her in the music industry.
She's so inspirational. She has really encouraged me to start writing again especially since I've gotten to college and have felt the need to express myself through music.
Thanks to Lana Del Rey sharing a post of her with Marina on Instagram I found her. I watched Marina's talk here before I even listened to her music. Not many popular artists seem as concerned as she does about remaining authentic, which translates into her fantastic music. Marina just made a new fan. Can't wait to listen and discover more!
It is so refreshing to see someone who’s more of a slow thinker give a speech and just talk. I feel like people want to hear everything fast but I’m always the type to stop every two seconds to think about what words to use. And in the end when I feel like the person I’m talking to is losing interest I just give a quick answer that I’m not 100% satisfied with and I stop. That’s also one of the reasons I’m more of a listener.
There's a lack of substance in songs on the radio for sure. It does really get old, and I think alienates people. Teaches them to conform, in a way that takes away their real voice. I commend you for your music, I have just discovered it via Grimes. I am a songwriter, and I find the idea of the creation of a new persona very comforting. I feel too much, so I don't leave a lot. Happy to see someone who inspires me.
This is truly inspiring. I feel like no matter what marina writes, I will always be able to relate to her and that's why I adore and admire her so much. There are not many artist with minds like marina, she is truly talented and I thank her for that. She has impacted my life in ways she will never know, and watching her talk about her music in depth was very touching just because of how much I have related to her music and I very much relate to her mind as well. and I think that's very important with artists and fans to be able to relate to one another, so I will never be able to put into words how much I appreciate marina and her songwriting.❤️
She inspires me because she has principles about her work and she doesn't compromise them, she answers questions honestly as opposed to putting on a persona and overtly promoting herself, she is philosophical and recognizes the value of thinking about painful questions that we don't have the answers to, she is smart without being arrogant about it, and she is so attractive but hasn't used an overtly sexual image in her career. It makes me happy that so many people have gravitated toward her despite how she is difficult to categorize, as she put it. I have 58 Marina songs in my library and am eager to add more!
Also that was hilarrious where that guy accidentally said her cover of Cyndi Lauper's "Happy" instead of "True Colours" and Marina's reaction was hilarrious!
never did i ever think id sit down and watch an hour long interview, but i did and i dont regret a thing. shes shining and shes so mature and intellegent.
It's kind of hard because Electra Heart had an element of sadness and cynicism I related to which I really liked because it was satrical but felt honest, songs like teen idle and fear and loathing really helped me. IDK does anyone else feel this way?
Definitely, I didn't really follow her properly like I do now until I heard electra heart. She's one of those singers where the lyrics really reach out to people over the song being catchy/radio worthy. I think she is just extremely relatable with her opinions and frustrations with the world and can put them down on paper easily.
I watched it from start to finish and I just wanna say that she is amazing and so smart. Her lyrics are amazing and I love how direct she is. I'm so happy for her and I'm so proud to be a Diamond. ❤️
I wish I found out about marina earlier, her music has helped me so much. I’ve never connected with an artist like I have with marina.her songs “I am not a robot” “happy” “teen idle” and most of her other ones I really connected to in a way I can’t explain. I love everything about her from the way she writes, sings, speaks and her actions I wish more people wished to her I feel like she could help so many people if they just listened to her. Thank you marina
What she said at 10:55 to 11:13 about her fan base is so true. When I found Marina I absolutely adored her and looked up to her yet I haven't done that with any other artist.
Can't express with words how Marina is important to me and how her songs and words are pushing me to seek the change and career that my heart eagerly asks for.
I love how she's taking a fair amount of time before each answer to think and form her speech and actually speak responsibly and ingeniously rather than just rush to answer lightly.
i'm turkish and i consider myself lucky because i can speak english well. but yet, there are parts that i don't understand or i have trouble to understand, therefore i wish there was a subtitle. if the subtitle was english, it would be still enough. marina is just not a popstar or a singer to me, i like the way she thinks, i admire how she speaks and i adore how mature she is. i would like to know her in everyway. i hope someday, i'll be emotionally mature as she is. and it's a very little chance since i live in turkiye, but i really like to meet with her in person. i hope someday i will.
I used to listen to electra heart and lana del rey songs when i was 15/16 and i love those songs. truly they’re close to my heart but I’m glad that marina as well as other artists (that i love so very much) are growing out of their fucked up romantized teen life era/phase because although (as i said) i love those songs and I long wished for them to return to that music I’ve realized that it not only would be wrong for the arists but also for me. they’ve given me not what i wanted but showed me their journey & growth into something new and those are the rolemodels that i NEED. it would be unhealthy to stay in that phase or mindset all your life and I’m sad that the fandoms of a lot of artists that were once depressed and not in a good place mentally can’t be happy for them and want them to continue to be in misery just because they themselves can’t get out of it.
Brrruuuh i come here every once in a while to re-listen to how wonderful she is. Bitch if I had the chance to talk to her i'd prolly start crying or sumn. I love Marina forever and ever
As a songwriter myself, it is so heartwarming and encouraging to hear her talk about the need for artists to make and write music on their own, because this is something I want to do in the future. I feel her views on pop music are also very similar to mine, which is great knowing that someone I admire and am inspired by so much, shares the views and understands pop culture in the same way that I do, I only hope anyone reading this, whether you're an artist or not really resonates with the idea of music being organic and personal in the future, as I feel this is where music has been lacking over the past 10 - 15 years
Brilliant. I'm so glad Oxford thought to get her as a speaker and of course I'm ecstatic she agreed. Her incisive thoughts must be heard; they change the way one thinks about pop music and the pop celebrity.
I just love her ability to overlap critical thought with her work as a pop artist. And this encompasses her songs as well somehow; her lyrics are very poetryish, well thought. She is very charming and arresting to watch, surely
me too! and personally i liked it better than the "FAQin hell" moderated by the vlogger some months past. a big thank you to the group who uploaded this finally! marina is so smart and sincere with her answers.

Same sort of guy right here. Incredible isn't she? 😍
The last part of the talk reminded me a lot of Sara Bareilles and the reason she wrote "King of Anything". Love 'em both.
