On my second day in Slab City, I set out to speak with some of the residents and uncover the informal rules governing this purportedly 'lawless' territory. I'm never surprised, the residents were remarkably open and courteous, defying the stereotypes often associated with Slabbers or homeless people.

I hope everyone who visits these places would at least bring them a snack or luxury from outside. They are living on almost nothing so every little thing can make a difference...or buy something....otherwise we are just making monkey visits. If you are out in the public and someone takes your picture. They don't have to have your permission, to do so. It's every Americans constitutional right! To video or take pictures in public! Of anything that the eyes can see! As long as it's in public! Not private! Yes, it's nice to ask but you don't have to! Everyone needs to be educated on this and all of your rights as Americans! 💯

Chris, in summary rules, regulations, laws and taxes are necessary for coexistence and civil society to live amongst each-other. Slab city is only an artists wasteland and isn't respectful of the laws of nature. Its a junk yard and disrespectful the Red Indian native sacred lands. It should be cleaned up of all the junk and allowed to exist in its natural environment. The people should leave and somehow find a way to integrate back into civil society. Thats my opinion.

Chris I know you think you've met so many wonderful people, but you don't know who someone is by spending a day with them. You're pretty naive to think that because someone is nice and polite to you the first time you meet them that you know who they really are. Think about it dude. Most serial killers were thought of as very nice and charismatic by their neigbors.
You know what I know? I treat people respectfully and base my opinion of them on the actions I witness. It’s very obvious that dine could be criminals. I’m not a police officer. I’ve interviews many killers no doubt, that doesn’t make me naive. I’m a journalist, not looking for long term friendships. I interview strangers.
RUclips promotes and favors a very shallow type of videos from people who carry a camera around so everyone knows they are filming and travel very short time periods at different places who talk with a tone to convince people they actually know what they are talking about when they don't even have a clue LOL

Where do you live now if you don’t mind me asking ? Do you live in a house or are you still living ‘on the road’ ? Hope you got your medical condition sorted out 😊
@@lea24457 I had to move back home I had sudden heart failure now I live with my folks till I can get back to good health but I miss the slabs. I wasn’t ready to leave.

They are no longer homeless, these are their homes. They trade items and services for food, and electricity is available if needed, but humans have lived thousands of years without it.

Hey Chris, excellent video and very educative. At the slab city, where were they getting water? Is there a restaurant around?
They have a grocery store, restaurant, gas station about 15 minute drive away.
We have groups organized together which secure and distribute water and food rations through mutual aid networks. We have multiple free soup kitchens running daily in place of restaurants and a more or less communal gifting economy that we sometimes trade within.

That old Buick with dolls all over it is wizards car. Ask him about it and why he made it. It is a tear jerking story that impacted my life forever. I am really happy to see that he is alive and well. I brought a 12 pack of coronas on ice and spent the day drinking beer with him. His life story was incredible and really left an impression on me. You should have asked him for a tour behind the walls there. The setup in East Jesus is bad ass! Kitchen, full solar array with battery storage, and the artwork inside the walled off private area of East Jesus is absolutely incredible. Looks like you only scratched the surface of what is there. Watching this really takes me back to my visit there. One of coolest places I have ever ventured.
I've already left Slab City/East Jesus, and yes no doubt I only scratched the surface. I would need months there to dig deeper. Thank you for watching!

You're right. I used to live there and am always disappointed that no one dares to ask to record life behind the bottle wall. The living room, piano, tiny trailer rooms, kitchen, backyard, furniture, carpets, and tons of decorations are a sight to see. At night, the entire art display lights up with color too. I need to go back and make my own production, LOL...
I Yell at the voices I hear sometimes. They are "ghosts". Yes. .... . And sometimes when I wake up from dreams I Yell at The DEVIL yes.

There is definitely a judicial system impacting Slab City. The Imperial County Sheriff's Office regularly visits Slab City to address issues and arrest any criminals.
Chris as usual, goes beyond places to make us see what we didn't know.

Dude, when you are interviewing people, you should let them talk more. I know there is a temptation to give people affirmation and add something of your own to it, I get it, but it is better to just let them talk. When they stop, ask a follow up question.

I wish my son and I could make it there 😢 because in two days we have to be out on the streets I'm pleading for help from anyone that can help me son and I get a cheap van or camper trailer. I'm considering using the first donation as a bid for this van because on Facebook marketplace it's all scams and I can't afford to loose anymore. Transportation to Colorado springs is very expensive and so much cheaper to drive and we can live in the vehicle until I can get a mobile home to put on our land. I have until the 15 th of March to be out . We've started packing our belongings
