The Green Giant did that to a lot of kids back in the '60s. If I had a nickel for every time I've read similar comments to yours about the Green Giant here on RUclips...well, I'd have a shitload of nickels.
The ad for Black Label beer features Jean Goodspeed as Mabel the barmaid (that's what they called servers in bars and taverns back then, don't blame me). And that's Paul Benedict (aka Mr. Bentley from The Jeffersons) in that last Schaefer beer ad.
The Bryllcream one reminds me of the tube of greasy gunk in our medicine cabinet, which my brothers used to slick their hair down. I have a theory that the reason the Beatles were so revolutionary is that they had loose, fluffy hair that MOVED when they sang. You might say that they started a trend.
@@not-so-smartaleck8987 .....and that SOMEHOW has SOMETHING to do with the fact that it's a funny line?!? PS: "Simpsons" and "South Park" haven't been funny by 16.0934 Km in years.
Outstanding quality compared to most of the compilations available on RUclips. It's great to hear these 16mm film transfers without the usual 60 cycle hum and noise. Obviously your prints are pristine or else you have one heck of a great noise reduction system. If you have any radio commercials of movie spots like those found on the 45rpm EP released in the 70's I'd love to hear them. Thanks for your efforts..
I wonder if some of the actors/actresses in these ads, such as the young actor & actress in the Quick Tanning/ QT Coppertone ad (2:07), were better known for some TV show(s)/movie(s) that they also had been in, or would later be in. (Actually, several others were briefly shown towards the end of the QT ad.) They show Hedy Lamarr's name (along with her picture) at 7:45, but I'm not sure who the others were in that very long series of Shaeffer ads, starting with the keyboardist at 7:00.
There is the commercial which made me ask for, and receive, a Mr. Machine for Christmas 1960. Six months later, when we moved, my mother agreed that we didn't need to pack Mr. Machine because I was tired of him by then.
@@dwightpowell6673 I think it was the above-commenter's idea not to bring Mr. Machine along (as part of their move), rather than his/her mother's idea, considering the commenter said he/she was "tired of him" anyway.
@@not-so-smartaleck8987 Well, Yah. But there were things I was bored with at a certain time that I would PAY DEARLY for now. There's that. As a 66 year old man these commercials always put a smile on my face. I go back to my childhood sitting around the tv watching these with Mom and Dad.
With a 1000mg of salt in each can, they should have called it "Stroke and Sandwich"
That face on the Jolly Green Giant used to scare the shit out of me when I was a kid. 🤣
Annnd THIS is why (as kids) we did NOT want to eat our veggies! 😜

Great memories of course from a bygone era....

Fantastic audio and video. Great job.
I begged my parents for a Mr. Machine for Christmas. Of course, I didn't get one.
Love it!!

"Call Roto-Rooter when you've flushed a towel. It's also great for an impacted bowel." Futurama :-D
Simpsons & South Park better than Futurama by 10 miles (and better than Family Guy, & the Cleveland Show, by at least a couple of miles)

Happier times then
My older cousin had a Mr. Machine. He had to put it away before I visited him, as I was scared of it.

“Tender thick meat beauties.”
I know this girl from McKeesport.......😜

If I had a time machine, I'd LOVE to have a Schaefer (or More than One!) with Hedy Lamarr!!! Beauty AND Brains is SO FUCKIN' HOTTT!!!!

Love and Marriage if anyone feels like listening to the song that the first one is a parody of.
The original song was used as the theme to the 80s-90s TV show, Married with Children
In 1961, Campbell's used it for their "Soup 'n' Sandwich" ad campaign.
Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and Dinah Shore ALL did this tune in 1955!
@@not-so-smartaleck8987 Based on the 1955 Sinatra version!

You should've stopped speaking to your mother for doing that.

I don't like the 1950s commercials. Really like the 1960s commercials.
I don't like 80's-'90s commercials......and NO ONE CARES
when ads actually cared about the consumer
