I thoroughly enjoyed this episode! It was a real treat to hear Akhilesh share such insightful and thought-provoking knowledge. I had the pleasure of knowing him 30 years ago ( TU English Dept), and it’s incredible to see how his journey and wisdom have evolved over the years. I especially appreciated the emphasis on inclusiveness of the Nepalese diaspora living abroad and the focus on sharing the positive stories of Nepal rather than dwelling on the negatives. Kudos to the host for facilitating such a great conversation-looking forward to more episodes like this!
1:08:28 There are no more stories to tell/ sell. There are no palpable changes that the common man can relate to. You know things aren't going well when a younger child is quarreling with his/her parents and says to them "Why didn't you leave the Country earlier? At least we would've a better future.." May Sound cliched "neo-urban rheoteric", but look at the share of Nepal's Urban populace in recent 2021 Census. Approximately 70%. Let that sink in.
1:04:49 So in all essence, let the cancer rot oneself(in Nepal's context the rot is quite fast), but don't go after it, fearing that there might be some collateral damage to the organs adjacent ? Akhilesh Ji, I'll give you one thing, you are truly optimystic.
Retrospectively seeing, Mahendra was a blessing. Otherwise, seeing the way things are going on in Nepal now or for the last 30 years, Nepalis would still be ridin either in Bullocks on earthen road or travel via India.
@1:02:00 Are we sure Hamile nai jitayau...? The amount of foreign intervention is so blatant, yet people expect common folks to believe that it is for "democracy" and for greater good of Nepal. The same self proclaimed messiahs have their entire family shifted abroad.... Take the current sitting president for example. His property in UK is taking quite a spin in social media. Similarly other politicians who were apparently spotted in Dubai, depositing money in the bank.
@1:03:14 Oh common! Do we see this in practicality ? Without naming any parties in particular, don;t you see political parties functioning on blatant political lineage . Even ward members associated with a particular party have their entire extended families embroiled/groomed in taking politics as a profession.
@1:00:00 Oh the obsolete Gagan ... He must be thanking that Nepal didn't have enough internet penetration during his tenure has Health Minister.... Bunch of hypocrites....
@1:03:40 Why dangerous? Especially now, when political parties act like an umbrella pvt. organisations, gaming the system and reeking profits for their personal likings. People inside the nexus doing well and good, like a company on huge profit.... 😂
@54:26 142 castes/ethnicities and 124 mother tongues.... Good luck trying to explain 2 party system( Even the US is not restricted to 2 parties Sanjay brother) in the current state of affairs/functioning in Nepal. There'd be immediate protests infused with identity politics, ethnicities, religions (not that it wasn't tried before) and a broader divide. If only principles were enough for prosperity.....
