In the wild the life expectancy of these gorillas is 35 years. In captivity it is 50 years. The reason is due to habitat loss & humans killing them in the wild. The western lowland gorillas are considered by the IUCN as critically endangered in the wild. The next step is extinct in the wild...the final step is complete extinction. While I understand how you feel. I try to remind myself that these zoos play an important part in keeping these precious creatures from going extinct.

I'd also ask these people " If the gorillas could tell you where they'd rather be, 99% would say at the zoo". They are taken care of free of chaotic dangers, other Silverbacks, and diseases. They are happy in the zoo. The zookeepers also have a great relationship with the troops. They show their appreciation.

Please tell me why the older gorillas are always touching the baby’s genital area? The baby doesn’t seem to like it. Is this what gorillas do?

Gorillas touch or smell other one’s butt to check his/her health

We never see sumomo with her mom nursing. As soon as I typed that I see Sumomo asleep with her mom

I don’t think her mother has any milk in those breasts. I don’t know who feeds the baby.

I don't think they care much where the food comes from, as long as they get enough they're happy.

@@Slimc74 I doubt anyone or animal would rather be a captive. Smh. They were born to be wild. I guess they keep them in cages so they know where they are, not because the natural instinct to be free is lacking.
