I have to say, the easiest way to learn a language is making a friend from that country. It's easy to learn Chinese, because our population is so big. And also too many Chinese people want to learn English or other languages
I agree. Though well intentioned, Chinese tend to steer beginners in the wrong direction. But this isn't a uniquely Chinese problem. Native speakers who aren't trained teachers rarely know the best way to learn their language.
2:16 I have a book on learning Korean from this company and I have to agree about it feeling over crowded. I didn't like it and stopped using it after a while. I've started to use a really good website and other resources but I'm also studying Chinese now! I'm very excited!
I think combini ng Integrated chinese and the New practical chinese reader is a really good way to learn fast. The first one is just super complte with everything you need , also the New Practical chinese reader is good cause you can find it for free online and all the audio files exist on youtube and you can even find them explained by chinese teachers. It is good for conversation, i started with that one and when i came here i could already make basic conversation having reached chapter 6 only. I picked up Integrated Chinese when i came here and it's a life saver from now on . Both good for studying alone.
Having audio that you can practice along with is VERY helpful. I repeated sentences from my textbook in Beijing with TAPES waaaaay back when. That practice helped my accent a ton.
New practical chinese reader perfect textbook. Was able to pass HSK 2 after doing just the first book in a year. I’m studying HSK 4 now and use Standard HSK Course.
"Pocket" Oxford Chinese Dictionary English-Chinese Chinese-English 英汉 汉英. EXCELLENT book. This is one I would highly recommend for beginners. Has ALL the common words, and a large number beyond, gives full definitions and alternatives, and if there is any uncertainty at all as to the meaning of a word, it is written in an example sentence to clarify its meaning. In addition the book contains a lot of information about Chinese and English grammar (it's for BOTH Chinese and English to use), and most importantly it has a RADICAL INDEX, so you can find Chinese words by their appearance.
Also this dictionary exposed the truth behind your awful 'Mandarin Chinese English Visual Dictionary'. Look up the word "LIANG" in that dictionary. What does it tell you it means? 两 surely? Or maybe 良 or 亮? No, apparently it means 梁. Why? When arranged in a normal dictionary, IT'S THE FIRST WORD ON THE LIST!
Hello!! Coukd you help me please. I will take hskk intermediate, so i am looking for a good book in order to focus on the test. I will really apreciate your help! 谢谢☺️
I also think that Chinese books published by the company :"A living Language" are also very good. Same for the Japanese and Korean versions The full course is only 28$ (the time I'm typing this) on amazon for Chinese 24$ for Japanese and 38 for Korean And each pack for every language has 9 CDS (3 beginner, 3 intermediate, 3 advanced). 1 book for beginners, one for intermediate and one for advanced. And for Japanese and Chinese there is a book dedicated to characters.
Is there a traditional chinese character workbook that you recommend? I want to actually write the characters on the book instead of just looking at it. 謝謝!
Integrated Chinese has has a traditional character edition. Both simplified and traditional editions come with a workbook. Are you currently studying Chinese in university or ... .?
Elementary Chinese I'm studying all by myself with no one around me to talk to hahahahaha I plan on studying it at a university someday. I'm only 17 😂😂😂 thanks for the recommendation!
hey what if i wanna come to china and i wanna be prepared for what i'm gonna face in real life... which book do you prefer? PS: plus i need to learn the language too.
Hi! Nope, honestly I haven't seen a Chinese text book better than Integrated Chinese. What book are you currently using? If it's not IC, that's ok? Your material is just one piece of the equation. If you have the best book ever, you still need to practice speaking and dialoguing with Chinese people. Good book doesn't equal good communication skills, right?
Hello, laoshi *can I call you by that? XD* I'm trying to self-studying Chinese as I don't have enough money to attend a course but the main problem is there's no course offering complete package from the absolute beginner learner to HSK 6 & HSKK Advanced since I crave to go to Chinese universities for my bachelor and. If it exists, it's pricy. Would you please suggest me several books that will accompany me to reach HSK 6 by self-studying from scratch to the advanced level? I'm currently doing my 2nd gap year, so I may say that this whole new year of mine is free
Im planning on going to China soon so i don't know how to speak Chinese and I want to have a conversation with them and I want to say which food I want in a restaurant and go buy shopping for clothes I want to talk to people in Chinese normally
moha alu I'm planning on going to Hong Kong soon so that's why I want to know what type of order of food I want and how much does it cost and all those things the important things in life to survive in a foreigner country
Atid Mata BenIsrael wath you need it depenss the city you are living me i life in shenyang city north east china is not too expensive but cities like hongkong shanghai beijin.. is to exoensive
moha alu thank u for the info bro but I can get a hotel room for the mean while I'm not going to live there im planning on visiting there not living there
Elementary Chinese I haven’t tried it yet. I’m using macbook so a little bit skeptical about the webapp because I might not be able to open it using macos.
Colton, if you need a book try Chineasy Everyday (with the light blue cover). I like it because it colorful illustrative pictures, but the content is there too. Do an image search for Chinese and you'll understand. However, the book doesn't list the most common characters in order by frequency of occurrence. My GO TO site for that has now turned into gibberish.... www.zein.se/patrick/3000char.html There's another book called Remembering Simplified Hanzi by Heisig & Richardson using pneumonics to learn characters. It comes highly recommended by my friend who teaches high school Chinese in the US. The book tells simple stories about characters. I just can't get into it, though you might be able to. When my friends move to Chinese, I always recommend they drill common characters with the Anki app. It's pure spaced repetition and it's effective, especially when you see characters all around everyday. How else are you studying Chinese?
Elementary Chinese oh really?? Neat.. Yeah because I want to learn enough cjaracters to read a newspaper and articles and auch..I already know 600. And I have heard chineasy isn't a good way to learn according to some reviews I have read. So like you said..yes it is unfortunate that the tuttle book doesn't give you space to write the characters..but if I had a notebook to copy them in... Would you syill say that'd be good. Or do you 100% recommend not buying this book.
Honestly, if you already know 600 characters and your goal is to read newspapers and articles. Don't buy anymore books. What's your college major, career area of expertise or most passionate interest? Figure out how it's translated in Chinese then search for and devour articles on that topic. You'll learn new characters more quickly that way. Try Baidu Encyclopedia, 百度百科, for concepts and tap your Chinese network for Chinese language website recommendations. For example, I love tech so I end up on cn.engadget.com a lot. Once you start acquiring characters, words and phrases in this manner, you'll find that after awhile you'll be able to make more sense of general texts like newspapers. Learn basic stroke order principles online. (You probably already know stroke order though right?) If you want writing practice then copy your favorite articles into a text editor, increase the line spacing and print them out. Then you can copy the sentences you choose. Skip the boring parts and just re-copy the most interesting sections. Thanks for engaging me on this! Are you in school still or working, here in China or your home country?

Do you recommend New Practical Chinese Reader (NPCR) over Intergrated Chinese (IC)?

So far, I've focus on mainly on books with simplified characters.

If you need any more Chinese advice, reach out and say hi!
