Thank you soooooo much! I have a collection of old harmonicas and several of them no long sound perfect. Your video is a life saver for my harps! ... joyce
I put my special 20 in my top pocket went up the ladder at work to help chase wire down a wall, bent over over weee bit to much and just about knock my guy accounta"bill" out. It was then I realized I could kill someone with a hohner.
I ordered 6 new "Hohner Special 20" harps in various keys today, because I was so, so, dissatisfied with my Harley Benton harps that came in a cracy cheap harp set I bought in a moment of stinginess...They all looked fine at first, but as usual you get pretty much what you pay for, and very much so in this case (I don't know what I was thinking...). BUT the bad HB harps I'm replacing (now redundant) can be suitable objekts to practise doing these mods and tweeks on. There's no catastrofy if I'm not succesful.... I already have new Hohner harps to play on.........
Nice guitar by the way, I'm also a Hagström owner. Mine is a -76 Scandi, that's a Strat copy... and I've had it since the early -80's, and never had any issues with it. A marvellous instrument quite simple...!
I'm new to harmonica but I decided to look for a channel tonight. I get more out of using my ear. Anyway I clicked on yours first and immediately subbed! I'm not sure about the kind I have!! It has holes on top and bottom. I know most single hole harmonica are in a key. I studied music theory but only a few things helped me and it wasn't the tab mags..mthey helped some but simple things could be been taught and I'm a little aggravated I wasted time on tab instead of following my heart and ears. Anyway I have allot of 1uestions and think I found the channel I needed on first try! Some questions are as follows 1 the harmonica I am using has two rows and about 32 of them. I think it's chromatic but doesn't have a button ? 2. How often and what do you clean it with and how often 3 From playing guitar and bass they make string ease ( think that's the name) but it lubricated the strings and fretboard..l...... so is there a wax or anything you put on a harmonica? I just really am ignorant about the instrument and want to know. P.S. I have 1 uploaded video of my original music I did alone and copyrighted but the imagery may be bizzare. It will sound better with good speakers or good headphones...check it out if you want. It was a different era of my life and uploaded in 2010 I am sure. It's called " What you don't know can hurt you" . I did the drum patterns, the mixing and all. So anyway not trolling just experiencing music in a new wat, very glad I clicked on this channel.
Excellent lesson. Very good explanations and you did a great job of filming the adjustments so anyone can clearly see how to make modifications. Very professional-thank you.
I just did. I knew a girl that could suck the chrome of a bumper. She'd not even be able to get my 789 10 draw holes to work now that I've adjusted them
Awesome vid Cooper thanks so much it really helped me to understand the harmonica guts better .According to what you were saying I just tap the cord a little gently just a tad and after that blow on it til I hit the sweet spot ? Tks so much I'am one of your new subbers and like your vids .Wish I was your neighbor hahaha God bless my friend 💜🙏
They are wind savers that block a reed hole that is not being played but air would leak through. Usually on chromatic harps. Watch a video on Chromatic maint.
When I started the video. I was like, hell yes, this vid is what I need to watch right now. Then came 04:36 and I closed the video. Scary scary stuff 😨
I have a problem in the 6th hole draw bend. Sometimes he sound normally, but in the mostly he sound stuck (literally) and bump out releasing at once like a stuck struck. how can i fix this?
I notice that he doesn't bother to respond to his viewers. Regular paper works fine, just don't overdo it. I sometimes use cigarette rolling papers if I'm trying to get small, lodged particles out of there.
Depends how cheap. Anything less than 20$ is usually not worth the time. Just spend a few extra bucks for a good one that you'll actually enjoy playing.
I'm "trying" w/fender blues harps - I bought set last week...& am attempting to do overblows on some, & draws - fun to learn - but even the $30+ harps need work I think
Bored. Went through my video library. RUclips, where's the option to double like? Or triple or more. I am but one man but my love for this extends past one lousy like!
Not really, in harmonicas when I have done that I never had to go back unless one of the reeds gets stuck which is very rare and can always happen regardless of this mod.
It depends on how cheap the harmonica is and also how hard you blow/draw. Even on expensive harps ($100+) they can get out of whack as you play them if you play them hard.
The reeds are always tight when you first buy a Harp, you don't have to do this to get a quick response, all you have to do is play, break it in it will work fine.
jason lemaire this has been my experience as well. Sometimes I’ll open them up and look for what he’s looking for and then spend a minute or two blowing and drawing hard on the specific reed
I know what a geek can you imagine him just sitting there for like an hour trying to figure out what hes gonna have as a back round and how hes gonna set it up totally unnecessary
very good ,I'm thinking about combining a F and a G, one in front of the other, can't wait to hear what it sounds like, gonna also video it, i rang your bell!😆🖒
What you doing in your this video does adjust nothing!!! You need to bend the reeds much more to adjust anything, but you saying that its much better now when you did actually nothing to your harmonica!!! 👎👎👎
Its all very good to fix a reed that is stuck because of old mulch like shown here, but to promulgate better music from this dumb act is hilarious really!

That's awesome to hear Joyce!
It helps that new players are reminded the harmonica needs to be handled carefully. Dropping may take the reeds out of tune.

Very cool piece Cooper. Thanks ! 🖖

My first harmonica was a Hohner Blues Harp in B flat. Bought it at the BX at Bergstrom AFB in 1979. Now I have a Marine Band C.
Thank you again! Had to review.
Thanks. It would also be great if you could make a video about how to tune the harp for overblows.

That sounds like a tremolo harmonica. There are some videos about those on RUclips.
Thanks man
Super great

Cheers Tom.
I'll bet I could screw up a perfectly good harmonica in a matter of minutes if I tried to make any adjustments at all...without even trying.
me too!
Same.
I just did. I knew a girl that could suck the chrome of a bumper. She'd not even be able to get my 789 10 draw holes to work now that I've adjusted them
@@john-nx4xnI bet my mom could
@@386joedaddy my apologies I'm not real bright. I don't understand the response

Thanks a lot for the comment Ricki (: yes, just a tad is needed and then you test and you see if it's indeed easier to play.
Very nice! I wouldn't want to damage my harmonica🎵
Thank you .. best gapping video I've seen . Nice one 😎
I Would like yo know the use of the paper on some harmonicas feeds.Lille pieces covering them. Thanx you

Very useful. Thanks you.
This is a great tutorial..👍🏻
thanks man.
Very helpful, thank you so much
My pleasure!
And do check your tweaked ons a lot, for theyv might just fall apart...
what paper thickness do you recommend? copy paper or dollar bill
I notice that he doesn't bother to respond to his viewers. Regular paper works fine, just don't overdo it. I sometimes use cigarette rolling papers if I'm trying to get small, lodged particles out of there.
Zig-Zag papers work good.
Which is the best harmonica of 10 holes key of C....
My favorite is the Hohner Golden Melody. The Blues Harp is excellent as well.
Hohner special 20
Same application for chromatics?
Thanks for your help brother! Can you make a tutorial for us about tunning the reeds? Thanks in advance!
Greetings from Chile!
Hagstrom is my guitar also....👍👍👍👍
Great demo👍👍🎶🎶🎶
My pleasure!
Anyrhing we can do for best responsivity on bendings?

would you do this procedure with a cheaper harmonica to improve playability??
Depends how cheap. Anything less than 20$ is usually not worth the time. Just spend a few extra bucks for a good one that you'll actually enjoy playing.

Hahah thank you sir!
I don't understand. If it is slow to respond,do I need to open the reed more,or less?
superpoof you need to make sure they are at the sweet spot - just a tad open
I've done that
You're not supposed to eat it.
@@kellio48 seriously? That's what u think i did? Dine done? Really? Whatta small brain u have boy
Easilyoverblowing need some tweaking! And the reeds and screwdrivers and so on are tinyyy
6:12 He was blowing not drawing. I did a test with my own Harmonica.
Once you adjust the reeds, will they stay where you put them? Or will they go out of position as you play it? Is this a periodic maintenance thing?
Not really, in harmonicas when I have done that I never had to go back unless one of the reeds gets stuck which is very rare and can always happen regardless of this mod.

Lots of hit and miss over here.
I think you mixed blowing and drawing the whole video, but good video in general
He did not !
At the beginning he made a little mistake with his hand gestures, but rest of the video I was wrong
Warning!!! Do this only and only if you are perfect with the sound of the notes.
