Jan Ali, I will not hesitate calling him the Mirza Ghalib of Shina language, rather even beyond. Ghalib took off from an already established tradition, while Jan Ali rose from mere dust. I remember in 1960s, when I was a school kid, his first time appearance in public and within no time he was a every household name. He came up with innovation in poetry like Mirza Ghalib. For his marketing credit goes to the good quarters of Northern Area Scouts, who recruited him as their musician. Then their center used to be just accross the road from Ghari Bagh. His first song "Jagut mutu dud denai mut chah thenay powerder gini" was a hit and appealed to every young and old equally. His poetry is not just for poetry sake. It is full of meaning as Ghalib claimed, message, politics, philosophy, It is unfolding many unheard, depressed and ignored layers of a remote and neglected culture. He brought back to life to a dying art. He is even distinct from Ghalib for being a poet, singer, lyricist, musician and much more at a time. Before Jan Ali both singing and doing music was seen as an ignoble job. And, people involved in it were called doom, a detesting caste name. Jan Ali broke the centuries old tradition and turned the demining job to an acceptable profession. His poetry charmed the youth in particular . As a result, people from every walk are in it today. Thanks to the modern technology taking it to new heights. I had a long laid desire to write a book on Jan Ali once I get time from my demanding job requirement. This would have helped in exporting his name beyond the narrow valley to the bigger art centers both near and far, but destiny had other plans for me and I landed continents away and now I see it a task impossible. I wish some one undertakes this. It will require both quality, vision and in-depth knowledge of people of his par. I have seen some of his interviews, which are brief and just introductory. He can be taught in local institutions.
R is say b bari khayanat aj kal lyrics k zikr k bagair nayay singers k ganay chalayay jatay hai r unki lines r dhun chori kar k songs change keyay jatay hain. Afsos
