People Refuse To Rent This Weird NYC Apartment… Why?

- This super cheap apartment is shocking - because its big, and it exists. Its also in a great part of the city near outdoor markets and the subway station. There’s also a planet fitness where you can fight with other gym members for a spot on a treadmill… great training for your daily commute into Manhattan on NYC’s world class public transit.

$4,200!?!? The rent is too damn high!!
A 3 bedroom apartment in nyc for that price is not high (on nyc standards)
@@tweedledandtwittledips the rent is too damn high!

I think the only living creature who'd have fun living here would be a cat. That long hallway is made for zoomies!
Why do I get the feeling that the 1st (front) room was never supposed to be a bedroom? I'd make that the living room & the kitchen area could actually have a dining table then.
It seems pretty small to most that don't live in NYC (looked small to me). It may have been sectioned off to become a room later
@@lynisalive I've lived in NYC for most of my life & it IS small compared to what I'm used to
I wish this "Cash" guy would stop saying these tiny windowless areas off the kitchen are living rooms. They are not. They are dining areas or foyers. This is really a two bedroom apartment and is a nice one, but the idea of encouraging landlords to call a two bed a three bed is nasty, but it is a pretty renovation.
It's not a bedroom. It's really the living room.
@@colegreen1291 That's what the listing says.
Cash is clearly listening, few weeks ago there was a thread about showing more practical and realistic apts and hes delivering. Gotta give
Respect when respect is due!
Lolololol....1400.00 for a tiny ass room is NOT realistic, by any stretch of the imagination.
@@autumnfall8829 Outside of your world, in REALITY, $1400 for a NYC bedroom in a clean and updated building is fairly decent. I’ve seen better but it’s not $4500 for 1 bedroom which is many of the apartments he shows, or $7500 for 3 bedrooms. So in comparison Yes, it’s realistic. However, I don’t expect anyone who’s never lived in NYC to begin to understand. This isn’t suburban Oklahoma or Rural Kansas, but everyone thinks they know a thing or two about city rent prices and has an opinion. 🙄
How can you even make a comment about pricing if you don’t understand the difference between Bushwick or Midtown, East New York and Park Slope, is there any subway stations near by or will they have to catch the train, where are the schools in relation to the property NYC doesn’t provide busing..many things to consider when determining the value of a NYC apartment. What’s realistic for 1, may not be realistic for someone else. Is that better for you, Autumn? Does that satisfy your dissonance resulting from this comment?
@@ThePomskysPalace that's INSANE, and I hate to inform you but only big BIG cities have RIDICULOUS pricing like that. Sooooo, your the one in a little bubble. Not me. No thank you

Cheers man. Excellent work!
BEFORE renting, hire a real estate attorney, and have an inspector come in (just to check on the “wall” next to the kitchen), also buy renters’ insurance
Lawyers are expensive, and a real estate lawyer is likely going to require a large retainer to represent an individual tenant, especially when there's no issue at hand. IMO, one can always retain a tenant/landlord lawyer should such a lawyer be needed once the tenant has signed a lease and encounters issues down the road which require lawyer assistance; much less expensive. It's easy to do on-line research regarding a building (permits, etc.), as well as information re landlord/ownership, complaints, etc. From my personal experience and speaking only to property management companies, proof of renter's insurance is required in order to rent an apartment. I don't live in NYC, so this may be different for different states.
No landlords waiting for all that. These apts are renting out in days. Esp a 3bd for this price. It’s even reasonably priced for a family with kids..NYC landlords have zero sympathy. Esp because NY is a tenant ran state, tenants always win in court, they delay evictions by months sometimes years, so any tenant that wants to nitpick in the beginning probably won’t even be considered. You’ll take what you can get that’s clean and well priced in NY.
@@ThePomskysPalace Always get renters insurance
@@MissCane9 I never debated that topic once. I was speaking on the lawyer and inspector comment. In a competitive market like NYC there’s no time or compassion for someone who wants to do an independent inspection and have lawyers draft up agreements based on findings..a NYC landlord would laugh in your face, literally
I’ve never heard of anyone hiring a RE inspector before renting an apartment. Apartment insurance is inexpensive & is worth it.
5:46 I always cringe when you close appliance doors
This guy has a real addiction to slamming doors.
That apartment is not worth what they're asking for. Way overpriced just to live in New York. The rooms are tiny and literally no closet space considering the 4 seasons of clothing you would need to store. Im claustrophobic so that would not work for me.
$4200 and still no master bathroom for a family apartment? Pass! I’m disappointed when the obvious isn’t included in the rental price.
Not possible in late 1800s tenement building.
I live in Kentucky and have absolutely no desire to ever move to New York City but I enjoy watching your videos. It might be because your videos are like one of those really weird dreams when you find yourself in an unfamiliar house or building and you keep opening doors. Opening doors to really interesting rooms It’s so dreamy ‼️❤️
Ken’s rating: B. No washer/dryer. Facilities in the building? Any bedroom smaller than 10x10 is questionable. I like the quirky apartments, but I think I’m more of a high rise guy.
I loved the neighborhood with all of the small "mom & pop" shop businesses. As for the apartment? Hmm... I don't know. It felt vey claustrophobic to me. The only room that I did like was the full-size bathroom. Given the rent, it would be great for 2 people. It's manageable with 3 people. It's "out of the question" for 4 people unless it's a small family unit. Finally, and, once again... who are these Interior Designers that some of these Landlords are engaging to do their foyers/lobbies? Ugh... I'd almost hate coming home in order to avoid such a bad design upon mine eyes...
This is my old neighborhood. Great little shopping area. Nice apartment, on a quiet decent block. The price of the apartment is what most apartments this size in Brooklyn go for. I just wish the apartment had washer & dryer or in the building for that price. But other then that, I like it 👍. Thanks Cash & Have A Great Weekend ❤!!!
Am I the only one who thinks that that little square of exposed brick in the one bedroom was weird? Either have the whole wall exposed brick, or sheetrock over the entire wall, but having just that one square of brick like that just seemed very strange. The fire escape with the lounge chairs, and all the greenery below looked like a nice little oasis to have your morning coffee.
I hate exposed brick period
How about some exposed plumbing? Wouldn't it be nice? If we were older, we could buy a free standing house in Vermont with exposed mountains.
Thanks Cash, the hardest working man in show biz.
I like the exposed brick. It breaks up the monotony of a white room + it adds some depth to the wall.

I used to live right down the street. It’s an awesome neighborhood
A living area with no windows is similar to a large closet.
Hi ,Cash it's a nice apartment. Every place I've ever lived in has always had separate rooms for the kitchen and living room and bedrooms . I find it odd that all the apartments have kitchens in the same room as what is supposed to be the living room. Open concept is the modern trend but it just doesn't make it feel like a real home. I guess I'm old fashioned.
And it smells on food all the time....
You are rough on those appliances and the sink sprayer, lol.
Nice apartment but not for me. No window in the living area will always be a deal breaker Cash.
The location of the building is close to the subway and in a neighborhood of small shops, but no mention of laundry anywhere around. The three bedrooms are small and two of the closets are minuscule. I'm thinking that this could work for two people, with the street-facing bedroom as a living/TV room. By NYC standards, $2,100 per person for shared digs is "reasonable".
Who needs laundry? Just do like Jack Reacher does. Wear your clothes once, shop at Goodwill, there are bargains galore. You could actually donate your clothes to that store, just don't buy the same ones, right? I would get eight roommates for a smaller rent.... All seriousness aside, I could never live there! Wear your 💕 like Heaven.
I would probably make that front room the living room and have a table off the kitchen and just have two bedrooms.
Nice quiet neighborhood!
I love the kitchen, bathroom, and the exposed brick in the home. The rooms are a little tight not much space for a bed & dresser and what’s going on with these “thin” closets?!
7:01 I remember when Mr Jordan used a Bosch measurement tool. Good old times.
LOL! YES! Maybe the company wouldn't sponsor him and, so.... 😆
Thank you for a Friday video! My week feels complete now. 😄
AMEN!
Love the natural light. In 1901, NY made it a law that apartments, or tenements, had to windows for air due to the overcrowding of families in rooms with no windows, which were breeding grounds for sickness.
The kitchen and bathroom are nice. The bedrooms are on the small side, and to make it work, you'd have to have three people who don't have a lot of stuff.
I love those black window frames. I think they really pop
I would never take a bedroom that had opaque glass doors instead of solid ones. Reminds me of an apartment I rented in Astoria once that had half wood half opaque front door. At night with the lights out I often saw the silhouette of the creepy landlord standing in the hall facing my door. No thanks.
Not to nit- pick but those doors were translucent. Opaque would not let you see anything. Clearly, you saw some light. And yes, that would be creepy. I would move to Montana. Where your nearest neighbors are ten miles away. Don't you hate nit pickers, clearly, I don't have a life.

Hey Jordan…in your video series while in Japan with your family you included more content dealing with food (specifically content on meals with your family). I’d like to see you do some similar footage in NY, and perhaps do some close-by travel in CT or NJ. I like what you’re doing on social issues in NY and most everything else. Your sites got great content covering a lot of subjects even though it’s heavily oriented on housing. But as I said, would really like to see some content re eating like you did in Japan. Thanks!
Take it easy on the sink sprayer🤣🤣. You almost ripped it out.

I love the look of that building. Nice apartment!👍
Weird can be good! This one's really good. I would put a old bakers rack c wheels at the end of the kitchen counter and move the dinning table and buffet further right of the kitchen. The room c the French doors would make a good living room I think. You'ld have two rooms left for a bdrm and office/library! Art rm..Thanks again for letting us see some great places! If I ever move to NY..I'll look you up ☺
Bedrooms are postage-stamp size. I think it's pushing the boundaries of imagination and positivity to think they'd fit a queen bed, a desk, and dresser. Personally, I can't live with a bed that's shoved up against the wall. Makes me claustrophobic, and seems almost impossible to make or change sheets. Kitchen isn't bad, but straight-line kitchens are hard to work in because they're not ergonomic.
I enjoy seeing how people live in such a big city, but I'm staying in my small city of 120,000. This is big enough for me.
Hi I like that cake and bakery that you showed us. Very nice unique apartments. So sad all the rentals for apartments in so cal are so expensive. NYC is an exciting city. Stay well and safe 👍
$4,200 affordable?
I'm insulted by the fact that this building is so old. It was stripped of all of its character to squeeze in as many bedrooms/bathrooms as possible and now the common area is disgustingly shrunken/combined. Don't get me wrong- the decor and finishes look nice, but save that ish for a brand new building. These greedy owners gotta stop tearing up historical buildings.
The facade of the building is very nice. The apt does have some character, but rooms really are small. Plenty of light. The backsplash tiles in the kitchen were making me dizzy......lol. It's not bad at all, the street is nice and quiet. I think for somebody that needs a larger apt. it would be a contender.
Amazing how bushwick took off. U couldn’t give it away 15-20 years ago…
4200 a month for a 3 bdrm, SMALL apartment? No thanks! That rent is outrageous! I feel bad for the people who have to pay so much! BUT..your tours are awesome!! You check out everything a person would want to check out! Love this little neighnorhood.

German chocolate is my favorite cake the train is dangerous to many peoples are getting hurt and dying on New York Subway this unit is amazing as well you hit out the park again
I enjoy your videos bro. I like the street scenes you add to the apt reviews.
It’s in a great area. There’s so much around and though it’s a bit odd I kinda like it 😅
You could give an interesting tour of an empty refrigerator box.
I bet this was a magnificent building when it was originally built.
That price is 4 months rent for my 3 bedroom House. Would never pay that much to live in a crowded place
Love your video and the music 🎶 🎵
Another apt. with no closet storage for clothing, cleaning supplies, dry goods, no medicine cabinets or towel rods in bathroom. You can clearly see where a door existed in the living area wall previously and they did a lousy job of closing it up. No laundry in building or nearby? Also fire escapes are for emergencies and people setting up furniture on them is illegal and can cost someone there lives. Besides it also let's unsavory people know that someone goes out there and there is a good chance the window is unlocked. This is a chop job apt. renovation.
Cash, have you ever just slept in ? Early riser everyday, can't trust 🤣

2:30 dude that's the Colombian flag, not Venezuelan... But it's an honest mistake cuz the flags are pretty similar
Was anyone else annoyed about the sink cabinets having the holes in them to accommodate the pipes 🤣
Cash,
First thing I noticed in the front of the building is the trash cans are chained together.
That’s scary, who want to steal large trash cans. Asking for a friend.
Old-school 6 family house like I lived in. Nicely renovated and not cut up. Usually they had 2 beds 4 rooms but some had 3bds with 5 rooms. Kitchens were large so this is reconfigured well. Love the tile backslash and the penny tile with black border on bathroom floors. ......hate the price considering it's Bushwick.
No washer/dryer, not interested at that price.
4:23 very nice entry.
Love your videos but why do you have to slam all doors?? Dishwashers, microwaves, closets, laundry etc. Fun fact - I also worked for the same ‘Big 4’ firm in Boston. 😉
wow okay when i clicked on this recommended video, I was definitely not expecting a call out of my actual backyard. I call it Jumanji.
To live with 2 other people, not happening, EVER!!
Thanks , Cash , Funny trying to save ..
Oh, the food offerings are out of this world!
I feel this should be a two bed. The 'bedroom' with the double doors off the living accommodation should be the living room, and the living space near the kitchen could then be a great dining room.
It's doable at the price.
Nice clean well maintained place! Love the old buildings! Only one neighbor 👍 beautiful kitchen and baths. I would ask the landlord to install towel bars so holes don't need to be drilled. Love the wide large mirror in the bath so 2 people can get ready if necessary. No laundry is the only negative. Lots of greenery around the building. Lots of cheap eats and shopping in the neighborhood. Very nice place. No idea why it's not rented yet, but I'm sure it will be soon! 👍😃
price it too high for the place...that's why it's 'not rented'
That "living room", is not a living room.

I grew up in Bushwick a million years ago. What memories
With bedrooms that small and one tiny common room, I can't imagine sharing it with 2 other adults. Maybe split it with one other person and make the big bedroom an office, and at that point it might still count as a reasonable price.
Or a big closet to share ,think the one bad thing here is the lack of closet space

so many bakeries, and next to each other? hmmm makes me wonder what's really going on....
This building is beautiful. I like the look of this apartment as well.
Question though:
In the bedrooms, why do they have only a square for the exposed brick showing and the rest is drywall it looks like? Why wouldn’t they just let the beautiful exposed brick show in each room?
