Most bosses, when highly resistant to an element, have around a 200-300 numerical value for their resistance. With Laurence, those are the elements he's _weak_ to. His fire resistance is over 700. And he has the highest health of any boss in the game. Truly, a beast made from nightmares.
Orphan actually has the 3rd highest health value. Laurence and (chuckle) Living Failures have more. Laurence and Living Failures are also the only NG bosses that break the 20k health barrier. Orphan has just over 19K.
Laurence has 200 arcane and bolt resistance but he's weaker to physical/blood. He takes 148 damage from physical, blunt, and blood while taking 178 from thrust. The only thing you get from beating Laurence is the Beast's Embrace rune, so as an Arcanist you have no reason at all to fight Laurence and thus those 200+ element resistances mean nothing. The Laurence fight is going to be much easier using a physically gemmed Saw Cleaver/Spear, tricked Threaded Cane, or Whirligig Saw since he also takes bonus from serration.

(When the song gets stronger and more ascending-like at 3:45). This theme is the one I use as reference or inspiration for a mysterious character known as The All-Seeing Father of the Church. And by the way are you planning on doing this same thingie for The Hunter theme? As it would really fit my Project's version of The Hunters, "The Reavers"!
