Cold Steel - Talwar Sword

- The Indian Talwar is considered by many to be one of the finest cutting swords ever devised. Taking design cues from the most experienced Indian Swordsmen of the past, and the Pindari chief of old, Amir Khan, our company President Lynn C Thompson combined the strongly curved blade of the British Light Cavalry Saber with its distinctive hatchet point (wider near the tip than the forté) with a traditionally styled and highly functional Indian hilt.
The blade of our Talwar is hand forged from incredibly resilient 1055 Carbon steel and features a broad fuller and a combat sharp edge. It is superbly counter-balanced by its beautifully crafted brass hilt -- which features an intricately decorated surface, thick quillons, a single knuckle bow and a traditional dish shaped pommel to lock your hand securely in place even when making big, swinging cuts.
The Talwar comes complete with an excellent wood and leather scabbard is capped at either end with a thick brass throat and chape.
Our Indian Talwar is a popular sword with historical re-enactors and Martial Artists. A beautiful addition to any collection, it is also a ferociously effective sword that will serve you well on or off the battlefield.
SPECS:
Blade Length: 33"
Overall Length: 39"
Steel: 1055 Carbon

Q: Better than katana??
A: Far better.. in cutting and it is made of better material, light weight and one handed.
***** that doesent prove anything. Talwar can cut through 2.5 pigs too
its called TALWAR not "tulwar"....
thos mofo Americans are ruining its spelling.
Raghav Barot Dont tell him, hes weraboo.
Yeah in Deadliest Warrior we saw an expert practitioner of bushido cut two pigs at the belly where they're weakest, laying down on a hard surface and with an overhead hacking cut. Then later on another season we saw a fat historian with zero weapons training absolutely devastate a hanging pig and splitting it's skull effortlessly with the turkic/balcan Kilij which is very close in design to the Talwar.
The Talwar and Kilij (and the polish Szabla and russian Shashka) cut as well as the Katana, but let you hold a shield with your off hand, which makes them much better swords.
Na check the katana vid from this channel in comparison. Katana is much more effective sword. Tulvar is not very practical.
Once I saw that tomato cutting power, I knew I had to buy the sword.
I think that power was within the skill (and luck) of the user and was transferred to the blade. Sure the man maybe can't cut a tomato using his hands.. But then again..

First of all you have to search for the indian civilization how old it is....and which kind of meteorology developed in india...its older than jesus and alla......
Nonsense. Talwar is a general term which means sword. This design, however, is purely based in Muslim civilization of South Asia and comes from Central Asia and the Mid-East. Jahangir used the designs that were all based on Muslim traditional swordmaking. Hindus copied us.

Tulwars were not intended to be used that way, but it's an interesting demonstration, nonetheless.
I agree with you. Nice cuts but talwar grip is designed for totally differen grip and wielding. Curved blade is for dawn cuts grip is inteded to keep wrist perpendicular to forearm
That's what I was noticing, too. Glad I'm not the only one that noticed, but Westerners do not know Indian style of fighting so it's understandable.
The fraw-vut is preferred, as is the use of the leg movement thrust and cut.
But talwara can be used with wristy action also. It would hurt your hand a bit if you tried to do very fast and umcontrolled swishing wristy movement in the air. But if you strike something which resists (eg a human torso) you won't hurt your hand.

talwar derives from sanskrit name, talwar's curvature is less than turk swords, talwar hilt is a typical indian hilt, the disk at the bottom and the wrist guard is typically indian style, not to mention the blade will be a typical indian forged steel blade, claiming indian history as ''turk'' or ''muslim'' is like claiming all muslim mosques are roman since muslim typically apply roman principles in their architecture.
The talwar is based on Muslim culture of South Asia, when Muslims ruled it (i.e. Delhi Sultanate and Mughals). It is Turkic and Muslim in origin and this talwar did not originate independently, rather it originated from Muslim swordmaking of South Asia.

Talwar is a precision sword... can't do much without technique. these people don't know the proper technique. Hence all that wrist bends and curls. An untrained guy can survive a zombie apocalypse with a Talwar but he can do it better with a slight heavier sword, like a Kilij or others, that are more destructive rather than being an armour beating precision sword like the Talwar. just for the ease of welding it. Talwars are very technical and not for untrained hands.
Their technique was quite good for European style saber, but as you said, it's not proper for this type of sword, too much wrist work, not enough elbow and almost no shoulder work.

I own this Tulwar by cold steel. I have good collection of Swords passed on by family which are from Bahamani,Mughal & Maratha era. This is a beautiful sword and is functioning so handle with care. I wish it was double edged as all my Indian tulwars are double edged razor sharp. No one makes sharp swords anymore. Even in India you might have to personally find a maker to design such a sword. All crap is sold in markets out of religious places those are just simple decorative swords. I have heard Punjab still makes functioning razor sharp swords.
Tulwars are singled edged
ChromeMan04 Says who?, clearly you have not seen enough Tulwars in your life
murtaza Farq says everyone, it’s a curved single edged sword meant for slashing not thrusting. There is no such thing as doubled curved sword
ChromeMan04 Usually Indian Tulwars have the other side of the blade edged not complete but from the point of the blade till upper half because if the sword gets stuck and when you pull it backwards it causes a wound.
Swords made by Mughals were edged on both side as I described.

This is a Muslim sword, developed by Muslim rulers. Pakistan is the continuation of Muslim rule in South Asia, so the sword belongs to Pakistan, NOT Hindu-India.
@@basisOn123 , I am talking about this sword design. The curve, top,, bottom, etc. is all from Muslim culture. Etymology refers to the origin of words, not design. +Julian Thueringer Having handled originals I'll say this, yes, it is quite comfy and no I wouldn't wear gloves, you likely won't be able to hold originals, I have big hands and they are meant to be tight, however the tightness is great for maintaining edge alignment and the blade doesn't turn in the hand so there isn't a lot of opportunity for them to get scuffed by the handle.
