We need to invest so much on dams like these so as to irrigate as many lands as possible in order to keep famine at bay in this country. Its too shameful that in a country ever blessed with rainfall year in year out,we are unable to feed our people simply becoz of poor leadership.Importing food stuffs and food commodities should be the last thing to ever think of as a country.Well done our former president Uhuru Kenyatta.Your legacy lives on.

What is so sad is if we have the local expertise to do such a dam, plus with all the chinese projects knowledge and skills transfer from ports, housing, rails, bridges, roads, dams Kenya should be able to do their own projects using their own experts. If we have an ambitious govt this is what the govt should be doing is to build the capacity of local talent. get all those involved in all these projects and form a Kenya roads and bridge construction company to build all of Kenyas infrastructure Plus combined with NYS and KDF expertise in infrastructure development, kenya can be capable of even getting contracts from other African countries to build their infrastucter.
We are already get contracts from African countries to develop their geothermal fields because over decades we have built our own capacity to develop geothermal fields, why not also in construction industry.. Why not have one dedicated school of engineering teaching from A to z of construction.

In the west people see a need and pool resources to investigate and try to plug that need by learning , experimenting planning and building. That's how these countries got so powerful. Masinga dam has not/did not break or burst, its just reached its highest level of fullness. It's just letting out excess water from the rains using the spillway which was designed for that purpose. The dam itself is still structurally sound. Its just that spillway is very ferocious in releasing the massively excess water that it has received.
