- Royal Mail has been criticised for delays to postal votes being delivered - particularly for people in Scotland where summer holidays have started. 'It shows that the systems that are in place are not fit for purpose.'
SNP Westminster leader Stephen Flynn tells Susanna and Ed that he is 'deeply concerned' that people across Scotland haven't had their ballot papers yet.

Privatised Royal Mail not providing a better service then? What a surprise, NOT.
Anything privatized will prioritize profit over purpose... & that defeats the purpose of any services that used to be under central government control.
We can see the damage across the board in Telecommunications, Post Office, Water, Electric , NHS & elsewhere... It's been a complete disaster for our nation & our people.
It's always about shareholders 1st... the citizens are "sc*m" - Who the F*** are they to demand anything? This is what's happened & it will just get worse.
Correct
Rochdale Rotherham Oldham Tower Hamlets and many more not affected.
The same thing happened during the Scottish referendum when 361,000 extra postal votes appeared from nowhere but where counted for the NO campaign , yet none of those votes or voters could be found . The electoral commission agreed but stated “ if you want to complain, you’ll have to got the Westminster parliament to agree and investigation. So good luck with that “.
This sounds very suspicious.
People suffering Austerity and away on holiday, how does that work.
First world problems
They needed to be in weeks ago.... just an excuse for SNP losses on the 4th.
How do you know that the people on holiday are 'suffering austerity'?
@@johna5624 So what percentage of people are not suffering Austerity.? I thought it affected everyone we all have to pay bills which have increased astronomically.
Suffering Austerity doesn't mean you're in poverty, it means your standard of living has decreased, your access to functional public services has decreased, the likelihood of being the victim of crime has increased, the disparity in your wealth relative to the 0.1% has increased and the depravation and "managed decline" you witness everyday has increased.
An economic system that funnels all wealth into fewer and fewer hands makes us all poorer, even the wealthiest who end up having to live isolated lives and "the real world" is alien to them.
Focus on Scotland not Palestine.
Royal mail needs to be brought back into the public arena. I do not blame the posties themselves as they are doing a fantastic job. I blame the incompetent management.
They say it isn't their fault they don't have a backlog.
The post office office are not a service I trust anymore especially after an experience I've just had they wanted £3 for a birthday to be delivered
How on earth does he know there are a huge number of people in Aberdeen away on holiday.? Where does he get this information he spouts.?
Makes it up on the spot
The information's available. Utility companies know the percentage of people who head away for holidays, because their utilisation of that supplied service suddenly plummets and then rises again.
Temporary staff agencies are in higher demand to cover holidays.
There's a wealth of information available. We live a data driven world.
@@ChrispyNut Yes and Stephen quickly checked all that data.
Remember there are Data protection laws that companies have to adhere to.

We might have to fo the election all over again if the postsl system is corrupted
The ballot papers were sent out 2 weeks ago Royal Mail can’t deliver postal votes they haven’t received
😂😂😂 snp already blaming Westminster for the loss on the 4th 😂😂😂
So you believe it is okay for people not to be able to vote in an election despite being eligible for one?
@@kallumlyons9750 should have been done weeks ago... SNP fully aware they have lost on postal votes alone.. oh and if on holiday, unlikely be SNP supporters as they do live on heating or eating.. Sun shines in Scotland, go treat yourself..
@@bernieb5233 If it should have been done weeks ago why didn't we all just vote weeks ago in person as well? Or is your argument that things like leaders debates and having time to make your mind up on who you think leads the country just doesn't matter if you are going to be voting by post? Bit of a silly argument, think your words mocking those in poverty says it all. I am not an SNP voter but I believe Westminster should have not held voters in contempt in Scotland by calling the election when they did. Sunak chose the time and when it was mentioned it would mean some people in Scotland would not be able to vote he didn't care because it would actually benefit his party, hardly democratic.
@@bernieb5233Tory voters in Scotland are more likely to vote by post having looked at the main swing seats. Than Labour or SNP.
The postal vote is part of the franchise. It should be defended to the hilt!
Here we go, I bet these are being tampered with already.
Yes because ost off them are REFORM votes 😜😜😜😜😜
This guy is a complete donut!
Regarding Postal Votes: In Wales we had our paperwork 2 weeks ago at least.
We sent ours off last week. No Worries... I guess we were lucky.
Regarding the main parties - They are all disconnected from reality, are delusional & are only there for money & power... & the idiot in the "frame" is as bad as they come.
Regarding migration... with AI our nation will lose 5 million jobs so the "migration" policy is obscurantism plain & simple, as is all foreign policy currently.
It's as simple & as clear cut as that.
Because they're mandated to vote as the Whips dictate, else they'll be smeared to high heaven by the Establishment media and "fellow colleagues", the Whips taking instruction from the Lobbyists, Corporations, pressure groups and most of all, our American overlords.
IF MPs could vote with their values, rather than being submissive to the party, we'd have a far better selection of candidates and legislation could be passed that doesn't enforce the status quo of stagnation.
Transparency, as with all things, works in moderation, applied in excess and inappropriately has lead to disaster! It only benefits those who can afford to watch every vote and have the ability to influence votes. Only final votes on whether to pass a piece of legislation should be public, once it's too late to add all the loopholes and what "people" are remotely likely to even look into (which is still pretty rare).
Hope you. VOTED FOR REFORM 😜😜😜😜😜😜
@@chrisjames5478 Read my post again ;0]
We sent our postal votes for Reform in the North West about 10 days ago. I just hope they don't go "missing" and are "accurately counted" particularly in view of the rise of Reform.
@@davidc3850 The Collective West is no longer a democracy - It's an authoritarian oligarchy & has been for quite some time.
We need to understand this & soon!
My postal vote arrived today. In Luxembourg! Lucky i was at home today. Needs to be back in the uk by Thursday
SNP especially Flynn really do not like England, especially since forcing them into Brexit which they voted against 😅😆🤣😂
There is nothing funny about Brexit. Its impact on Scotland is dire and all the mainstream media want ito focus on is wanting Scotland to support the English football team! Speaks volumes doesn’t it!
I treat the football banter differently from the politics.
Not only Scotland mate!! Im in Leicester and my postal vote hasn’t arrived!!!
SNP, laying the ground work to question the legitimacy of their being ousted lol.
If I can do my banking online I should be able to vote online. I am disabled and rely on postal voting to cast my vote.
The managers came around 3 weeks ago and just banned all overtime. That simple .
Awful man this bloke
I registered to vote by post as i am disabled...postal vote form did not come by election day so i went to poll station and they said i could not vote in person so i could not vote at all because i did not receive a postal vote form.
What has the schools being on holiday and calling a general election during them got to do with it. Is this them already making excuses for losing????
Back to school you!
I never received my local vote paper or the election
Make sure you ring up and demand your ballot paper
He will probably blame Nigel Farage for it.
Tories have form regarding postal voter suppression. ‘Send applications to CCHQ.’ Someone needs to go to prison for this.
I don’t know why people are only just waking up to this fact. For the last 2 years I’ve been getting my post delivered once, maybe twice a month if I’m lucky.
Come on even the So called Prince of Wales didn't support Scotland why would anyone belive English supporters would support Scotland ??
Never received a postal vote ? Luckily I'm not away!
Get your priorities right. Vote or go on holiday.
Maybe there ballot papers should have arrived the day before the election??
He did answer you, he would never support England or the UK.
He loves the French.
School holidays in Scotland started at the same time of year they usually do, not "early"
The royal mail is being made to shoulder the blame from the rapid timing of the election and peoples own delay of swapping from walk in to a postal vote. Posties can only delivery the ballot papers if they're available but they're not because the processing hasn't been done.
Get rid of swinney
A postal vote with it's bar codes inside basically tells people the way you have voted very easily
It is July 2nd and I have still not received my Postal Vote pack. I will now have to follow extra special measures and have some running about to do to get my postal vote pack, after which it is too late to post back so I will now have to attend the polling centre with my ID, postal vote and ask to speak to the retuning officer to have my vote accepted. There needs to be an Investigation into this!
This whole begging Scots to support England at the football is pathetic. Would the Spanish be asking a Portuguese if he or she would support Spain?
There were a lot of people in Europe who either didn't receive their voting papers for the Referendum in time to return them and a lot that
never received them at all, my husband and I were two of those. Now the cynic in me wondered if these had been delayed on purpose, and why is there a need to print Voting papers on the envelope!!!!!
Flynn's head is so shiny it blends into the sky
There's a surprise...said nobody ever. Should have never been allowed.
Maybe the simple solution to postal-vote issues is just to vote in-person?
Do we really need as many people doing postal-votes as we have, and rising? They can't all be elderly or disabled, surely?
Postal voting allows the "man of the house" to make sure that his wife and daughters vote the same way as he does.
Yes there can be. On top of that are people employed I shift work not working near their polling station, people on holiday, people away at conferences etc. postal votes are essential.
@@Checkit666 Okay, so perhaps extending the opening-hours for polling-stations could be another option?
Or perhaps have a public consultation to see if some areas of the country aren't near-enough to one?
For some, the cost of travel to the polling station (when even budgeting for food may be an issue), the unnecessary bureaucracy and difficulty obtaining the "acceptable" photo ID (remember Rees-Mogg's admission of gerrymandering) would also make postal voting the better option. One shouldn't have obstacles put in one's way in order to vote.
@@stevegreen5552 One form of ID can be obtained for-free, and many polling-stations are within walking-distance.
As I said to an earlier reply, let's increase the number of them, and do what some other countries do and allow voting in-person over say a week, not just on one day, to allow for people who work overnight or shift patterns.
My voting papers came without a ballot paper
@@stephenholmes1036 Did you open them? Or are perforated edges a big task for you 🤔

Theres a whole enquiry going on pointing this out. I know thats technically the post office, but the nightmare started and was procured by royal mail

Snp are always blaming someone else Stephen Flynn only wants to stay on the gravy train in London vote snp out now
I was unable to vote. Rigged once again. The UK establishment always gets their way.
It's down to the councils to get the packs to royal mail that's the problem, they need to sort out potential reelection in certain areas after the election now, if labour don't get a majority in the mean time we will likely have a caretaker government where nothing of big change can happen.
Trouble is , having got your postal vote , how do you know its been received once sent ?????
I guess you don't. In either case you put a cross on a bit of paper and shove it in a box and trust that the right person will get it and count it.
Worse still, how do you know they're not in a abusive/controlling household and they're forced to vote against their own will.
I fully expect such "fraudulent" votes to be in greater number than the fraudulent votes that the introduction of ID is meant to combat. Still small, but to those individuals, it's the most important vote.
We all know the majority of people who'll be voting by post don't we?....

I think I've always liked what Stephen Flynn's had to say, every time I've heard him speak.
