    Argument sounds good on paper, more features vs more raw speed. In real world situations though, I don't think it pans out. The recommendation for most people should be the 6600 in this case. DLSS is a great feature, but are you using AI to just barely get the same performance you could be getting natively with the more powerful card? Ray tracing is cool, but on a low end 3050 it feels more like a gimmick.

    • @baloo5621

      It's still a gimmick on all cards this generation, all my friends with 3090s turn it off, it's just not worth the performance hit.

      Especially because DLSS upscales 1080p and both are 1080p cards, So what the hell are you upscaling on 1080p? :D Are you planning to use 1440p monitor with 3050? And Ray Tracing is unusable on both GPU...

    • @mixit2413
      @mixit2413 2 года назад +13

      DLSS doesn't really have am application at 1080p it does at 1440p or higher but these card can't really do those resolutions. As far a Raytracing even thought the 3050 can do it better the FPS hit is still bad enough to not make it worth it. Nvenc is better for streaming only recording video editing and uploading both cards have an equal encoder. Assuming your build uses AMD Zen 3 CPU you get SAM that is better optimised for 6000 GPU's than resizable bar and can make a sizeable difference in some modern AAA games.

    Imma disagree with you.
    RT on these cards are rather ridiculous.
    With it being about 20%faster than the 3050 in GPU bound games, DLSS also becomes a rather moot point. Why have less performance, matching with DLSS, to get same performance, but worse quality? Its ridiculous!

    • @khoitrinh1
      @khoitrinh1 2 года назад +48

      Yeah, that was a ridiculous comparison. No one's getting low end cards for ray tracing. It doesn't really make sense to sacrifice 20% actual performance for a gimmick. Yes, RT on low end cards is a gimmick. It hardly looks better enough to justify the performance hit. Who cares if its 44FPS or 24FPS on Cyberpunk. Both are not worth using for RT.

I have tested both, and, while DLSS is better than FSR, its nowhere near "better than native" anything lower than DLSS Quality and the reconstruction starts to fall apart. Balanced is still playable, but does not look as good at all. Why use DLSS when you can get same performance at native rendering? These GPUs are both bad at raytracing. You would put it on, admire the view, then disable it and finish the game. Trust me I do that on the 3060 and RX6800. Nah, if the only argument is the Ray Tracing(RT) you are still wrong. 6600 is close to RTX 3060's out of the box performance, so 1:1 should be with GTX 1070 (I know it is older but still got the same power without RT), or RX 5600XT. Also people consider using RT with higher end GPU's like 3070 and up, and they are still mad that their fps is 50% of what it should be and they just dont use it. And what does it left for the entry level 3050? RT only on 720p ot 1080p and 75% res. scaling.

  • @xxtheplague1xx280
    @xxtheplague1xx280 2 года назад +16

    Uh I'm sry what... I politely disagree. The 3050 is beat here. The only advantage is the Nvenc encoder. RT and DLSS are not a good argument unless the card being used can sustain a playable framerate/pacing.... and I'm sry IMO that means 60fps 1080p medium or better. FSR is not a competitor to DLSS it is a Frame scaling technique with temporal effects not AI reconstruction. In this tier product RT is just a tech demo not an actual selling point.

      If the 3050 was 250 bucks and the 660 was 329 I would say maybe the 3050 is the better value, but as someone who has rocked a lot of nvidia gpu’s (I like AMD, but until the 6000 series they just didn’t have a high end gpu for me to buy, and I was just able to get a 3000 card in stock before I was able to get a 6000) at the same price 6600 is the much better value. His argument about doing any type of professional work is dumb, as anyone who has to get real work done would be better off spending more money on a higher end card in the first place. Since if you are making money on the card the amount of time you save with a higher end card pays for itself.

    Little different today since the 3050 is $379 and the 6600 is $420. As someone that plays mostly Ubisoft games, the 6600 would be the better choice but if your catalog strays from Ubisoft titles, the 3050 might do a little better. It really comes down to what you're doing.

I want to upgrade my GPU and use the 6700XT in my spare PC but the FX 8320e in that PC would probably only push the GPU to 35% or so. So, do I buy a cheaper GPU for the spare, upgrade the CPU and MB in the spare to use the 6700XT or build a new PC with a 3080 or 6800XT and make my current the new spare? At least the last choice ends with three working PCs that will all play modern games from okay to fantastic. lol

    FSR in Cyberpunk 2077 is implemented fantastically. In Ultra Quality, with a 1080 Ti, I gain 15 to 20 more FPS (using everything on high and SSR Medium), and the only noticeable (not everytime) difference, is some aliasing with FSR. Only in ultra Quality cos anything else is a blurry mess.
    I can "see" what you're talking about tho, but:
    - Not all games support DLSS
    - Raw performance will always be better.
    - RT is not a talking point for XX50 and XX60 GPUs. It's ridiculous.
    I'd buy 6600 any time

    While yes it's good for ray tracing that's it's only true saving grace. However Ray tracing enabled games is still just a small percentage of PC titles out there same goes with DLSS. If you could get a 3050 at MSRP, and/or the majority of your games are Ray Tracing titles then it's the right choice. Otherwise then it's best to stick with something with raw power like the 6600. Also just like how DLSS had a rocky start FSR will get better as well especially since they made it open source so more people can tinker with it.

    Solid points. Moonlight only works with NVIDIA and that is probably the most underrated benefit of NVIDIA cards. It's amazing to stream a desktop to another room in your house or across the country (with a fast enough connection in both directions) in nearly flawless quality and with ultra low latency. The AMD alternative encoder just does not work as well as NVENC. It stutters and drops frames at a much higher rate. If you have a 9 series and above NVIDIA card that's connected to your router via ethernet, do yourself a favor and take the time to setup Moonlight. In most cases takes less than ten minutes. In less ideal conditions it can take up to an hour depending on your router settings. It's open source, free and available on every platform. Think about it you could stream PC games at up to 4K 120 fps to your: TV, phone, tablet, 10 year old laptop, Raspberry Pi, smart watch, and / or Samsung Smart Fridge. Man, the world is your oyster and the possibilities are endless. / rant

    If it was priced lower the RTX 3050 is a decent modern entry level GPU.
    The problem is that the RX 6600 is outright a mid range card, just around 5-10% slower than the RTX 3060, all while being the same price as the RTX 3050 is many countries.
    So as of 2023, the RX 6600 is no doubt one of the most bang for your buck GPUs out there.

  • @lukilladog
    @lukilladog 2 года назад +4

    Similar performance to the 3060 in most games without RT, combined with the price difference, seems to be making the RX 6600 the clear choice for desperate PC gamers. I remember years ago when I was telling people that if Nvidia was allowed to follow course on giving less for more money (back when they started to cripple the vram pools and selling entry level chips as mid-range -gtx970-), we all would be end playing on low end x50/x60 cards lol.
