B&O #51 is now cosmetically restored as of 2023. The first EMC/EMD E unit got a facelift by the B&O Railroad Museum restoration crew. Thanks B&O Railroad Museum Restoration Crew for restoring the first EMC/EMD E unit.
Number 51 looks TERRIFIC and without a doubt is the most beautiful railroad engine I have ever seen in my 74 years, A job very well done, Thank you from a crazy railman and thanks to all who helped restore her. Wow,
I actually use to own a large amount of stock in the B&O Railroad. But I ended up selling it for some property on Marvin Gardens and a hotel on Park Place. Then I had to pay to get myself out of jail.
I honest to God was not aware that an EMC EA is still around. Until now I was under the impression ACL E3 #501 was the oldest E unit in preservation. Glad to see an even older example still around to educate railroaders and the general public.
B&O 50 boxcab was built in 1935 by EMC and is at St Louis museum of transportation. B&O 50 and EA 52 went to the Chicago and Alton then the GM&O, GM&O rebuilt the EA into an E8, in 1952 or 3, and boxcab 50 was saved from the scrappers torch. They also have a GM&O observation car ‘Abe Lincoln’, that was also ex-B&O.
God bless you and the gentlemen who volunteered their efforts. We must maintain these skill sets to pass on to future generations. Keep digging up and restoring more of the old locomotives - Even non B&O... Old timers have also done a magnificent job of restoring old *flying* World War II aircraft as well.
An excellent video. That locomotive would look fantastic pulling my B & O heavyweight Royal Blue passenger train. Hello from the Tracy Mountain Railway in Colorado. ♡ T.E.N.
Was this in the shop next to the main roundhouse? I seem to remember an E1 in there at some point, although it's been a long time since I've been to the museum. Probably since 1309 was pulled out and sent to Cumberland
I am old enough to remember the standard of excellence that was the American passenger rail system. As do those old fellas you saw restoring the 1937 streamliner. Those men are not sentimental hobbyists. They are physically showing you what was and what could be again.
Status: 60 years non-operational. While it is theoretically possible to restore it for operation, to find the parts for the winton 201(A) engines in great condition are going to be extremely difficult, and most likely would have to be built from scratch. There's also the financial cost associated with a restoration of the undertaking. A full evaluation of the engines would be required to determine what would need to be built from scratch, and where to obtain said material for installation into the engine.
@@capitolrailfan96production58 AT ONE TIME I COULD HAVE HAD A CHANCE TO BRING THE BOSTON AND MAINE EARLY EMD BACK TO LIFE. IT ALSO WAS POWERED WITH A 201 -A! I DID NOT WANT TO RELOCATE TO THE AREA, BUT OFFERED TO BE A CONSULTANT FOR THE PROJECT! WORKING FOR THE ATSF STARTING SEPT 1964 I BECAME QUITE FAMILIAR WITH THE 567, BUT THE 201 WAS AS LONG GONE AS STEAM WHEN I STARTED! ULTIMATELY THE PROJECT NEVER GOT STARTED!

I rode from Cumberland, Md. to Martinsburg, WVa. and Washington DC. on several occasions when I was a boy. Thanks for the memories .

You folks did a unbelievable job. I wish you could display it longer than a month, due to COVID a lot of us can’t come see it.

Very nice, look forward to seeing it run. • Cheers from The Detroit & Mackinac Railway 🚂
I sure wish there was Detroit - Mackinac Railroad service today, they had it a hundred years ago, too bad we've digressed.
This would be a really cool engine to restore to operation. I hope you guys do that.
I’ve seen the finished train, so could you show us on RUclips the complete video of your work. Roger. PS great job!

Has any thout been given, to ever restore C&O (1604) the Allegheny 2666 ?
does this engine have sterling silver bearings, ? is that part of the overhaul problem ?
does it actually function as intended buy the factory or just a static display.
Unfortunately, I heard it's only a static display? Hopefully, they can restore the power plant. Possible with the right money...
Turn it into an electric one

Unfortunately, most of the rebuild was structural and reskinning the locomotive. Nothing mechanical was done. She is not unlike an empty shell.
