I like this idea very much. I would however use Elmer’s school glue and dry iron the edge in half then do the same for the second fold. So much easier to handle. Great way to do hexies and you don’t have to cut out the template . Thanks
Thanks for watching, Connie. I've never been a fan of using glue on a quilt. Just seems wrong to me. I'm glad you have had success with it though! Whatever gets that quilt done, right! 😍
I’m not even close to starting this project. I am looking forward to starting, but you just suggesting to use the zipper presser foot will definitely be a help because I have a problem being consistent when I’ve got to turn the fabric. Thank you sharing your expertise and helping give tips on doing this project easier.
OMG! My first machine was my grandmother 's White Rotary. It only stitched straight, and only forward! I hope you love your new machine, and enjoy your visit!!
Oh how I love to listen and learn from your tutorials. You always make me smile! Thank you for all the work you put into your RUclips site. Sending love and best wishes from Chesterfield in Derbyshire UK
I love your videos. This looks so easy. I'm going to try your template and if I enjoy it, then I will go and buy the plastic one. LOL Thank you for sharing your quilt.
Hi Kathy, thanks so much for watching! I hope you have fun with this one. I'm designed several more of these and another subscriber gave me a great idea for making these templates at home. So look for those videos coming soon!
I used this technique to make a Christmas tree skirt. Leave out a hexi in the middle and an opening. I used plain red on the back with Christmas print on front.
I really like how you do the whole thing in one piece brilliant idea. I have been making a hexagon quilt but you just do the inner piece, then pop on a separate. backing Then you have to quilt. I will definitely be trying this way in the future. Thank you for sharing the idea.
I can't stop! I'm trying to finish this project large enough to dress a side table in the guest room before Kathy gets here. So much fun! Thanks for watching, Deborah!
I love this idea. I haven’t done piecing in quite a while but this makes me want to get back into it. I love depression era fabric as well.I think I will use your template and some dollar store flexible cutting mats to make templates and make a quilt! 😊❤ I hope you have a lovely time next week!
Oh Amber, that is such a good idea! Let me know how those templates work! That could be a really good alternative for folks wanting a more substantial template! Thanks for watching, my friend! 🥰
Amber, I'm so inspired by your idea that I'll run to town and pick some up. I can do a video on how to make those. Of course giving you all the credit for the idea. God bless!
Well,,isn’t that Hexi set nifty! I am doing my first go at EPP hexi’s. Now I see this and think I just gotta have this😂 It’s awesome that Kathy is coming to visit and the machine is beautiful! You two have a great time! Enjoyed your tutorial very much😊
Thanks for watching, Rene. I believe I've done EPP back in the 70s but no paper. We just sewed the hexagons together. My first quilt was a grandmother's flower garden quilt. We didn't use paper though.
Bought these templates years ago from Nicola of Daisy and Grace . They are such easy templates and the pattern soon grows. Love the fabric is it still a available.
Hi Sue, thanks for watching. I am using 1930's reproduction fabrics. The newest piece is from probably 25ish years old but several manufacturers still produce them. I so enjoyed the project that I spent the day designing more patterns so look for those videos soon.
I'm with you, Bonnie. I've already designed 3 more quilts using this technique. I'm not sure I understand your question, the edge of your quilt is finished already. Unless you don't want the ziggy edge. You could use the template to draw half hexies, just mark the centers of the templates with a sharpie and then line those center lines up with the edge of your fabric.. Or, you could cut full hexies with the templates and then cut them in half and get 2 . Remember, there is no seam allowance with QAYG. Thanks for watching!
@@70acres Thank you for the answer! I am always “extra”. I saw the half hexie template when looking at the hexie template. My brain 🧠 immediately thought I might need it to finish the edge. I like your idea better! 😂 Blessings!! ❤️
I have the hex n more ruler. I wonder if I could use the 2 sizes which I think is 2.5 and 6.5 to make my own templates for the inner and outer?? Heck I’ll use your template lol😅
Thanks for watching, Lisa! When you place the batting and top fabric on the center of the larger piece, there should be 3/4" exposed on all sides of the big piece. This gives you enough fabric to make a binding that wraps around the batting and top fabric. Too much fabric may give you too much bulk to fold over.
Question, would you be able to configure a layout design? Like making a flower on the back and then on the front using a correlating print that makes a flower on the front? .
Looking at the finished hexies, the edges of the bottom piece are brought up and over the inner batting and hexie. The edges are not turned under or finished. Do these unfinished edges fray over time when the quilt is used and washed?
Hi Bonnie, thanks for watching. The backing is 3/4" larger than the front. You fold the edge of the backing up to the edge of the front, and then fold it again over the edge of the front. It creates a border/binding all the way around the piece so it is a finished mini quilt. You then zigzag all the mini quilts together to make your larger quilt.
@@70acres Thank you! I missed that. I wasn’t seeing you doing the double fold on the edge to finish it. At 72 years old, I have just developed a passion for quilting, and I don’t think the Lord is going to leave me on earth long enough to finish all the quilts I want to do. I need to stop binge watching your videos. 😂😂😂❤️
Oh please don't stop watching, Bonnie! 🤣 Just think of the quilts we can make in heaven! Your bobbin never runs out and your fabric stash is always full of just what you want! 🥰😍✝️

Before I got this template I waited years to make a hexi quilt. This is marvelous.
Thanks so much for watching, Pat! I hope you have fun with this!

I hope you have fun with your granddaughter and that your son treasures that quilt. Thanks for watching, Susan!
I have one of those that I started about 2 years ago. It's just one of several UFOs I have going

Can you show us the reverse of your quilt, please. And thank you for your witness!
You could go to dollar tree and get some of their cutting mats to use that for a to cut that out with. That would be a good one.
Hi Pam, another subscriber suggested the same thing and I turned the suggestion into a video. Thanks for watching.
Would the 2.5" half hexie template be helpful for the edge of the quilt? I love this!!! My mind is going so fast with ideas. Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
