Oh that wasn’t magic that is how easy it is to mount Vee Tires on Hunt Wheels. In the manual from Hunt it said throw tire at wheel. I was like ok let’s try it. And POP it worked 😂
Thanks for providing all the weights on this. I went back and forth between these and the Nukeproof Horizon v2s for my Rift Zone 2. Finally settled on the Nukeproof which is a little heavier than the Hunt but as I now know, still lighter than stock. Plus it has 3.5 degree engagement!
Thanks for the mention! Dumonde Grease quite down hubs a lot. The Hunts are super stuff compared to a lot and another option right now are the Nukeproof Horizon since they are on sale. It's more supple but loader then the Hunts.
How's the width on those? I know the Hunt trail wides are within the good width range for trail bikes, but the enduro wides are maybe a bit too wide if you aren't running 2.6s, usually 30mm is the sweet spot for enduro bikes and rowdier trail bikes.
Did I miss if you installed trail or enduro wheels. I have the Enduro wide rims on my Trance and really like them. They are much better than the oem Giant AM rims. The Poe are excellent. Never weighed them and compared to the OEM.
I’ve used those exact wheels for about 6 months on both my Full suspension and Hardtail. They survived coming down Snowdon at 40mph+ with XC tyres on so they’re definitely more capable than just ‘trail wheels’. They’ve got a slight wobble now but that’s just a few loose spokes. Also they’re waaay faster than stock wheels.
@@RunBikeMike Yeah I think they’re a bargain tbh and that slight wobble I mention is literally just a couple of millimetres, nothing a spoke tool can’t fix.
Great vid thank you for doing this series as I am looking for inspiration for upgrading my Riftzone 1. Very happy to have found your channel! Keep up the excellent content
This bike is looking pretty sweet! You might just make me buy one.. I have a 20 year old Marin hard tail that I cruise around town on, maybe a Rift Zone will be my first full suspension MTB
I’ve got Hunts on my Full Sus MTB and some very nice carbon Hunts on my gravel bike. They’re incredible value - the bearings are super smooth, the engagement is instant and the free hubs make a beautiful noise.
I want to hide whole seat post in seat tube. How long dropper post can I buy? I bought E*thirteen Vario Infinite Dropper 120 - 150 mm yesterday but i can't hide into seattube it despite producer says seattube has 390 mm and dropper post has 258 mm insert lenght.
I think you could drop some more weight and rolling resistance with some new tires. I've heard the Vee tires are pretty heavy. Something like a Maxxis Dissector/Rekon combo would work well on that bike. 35lbs is crazy for a short travel trail bike, my Ibis Ripmo AF weighs that much with a set of DT Swiss FR560s, which are not light at all.
Nice vid! I'm running Hunt 27.5 Enduro Wide wheelset on my 2022 Giant Fathom, paired with MAXXIS Minion DHR II's (2.6 front / 2.4 rear). Also upgraded with 150mm Rockshox Pike (vs. OE 130mm Giant Crest), and Canfield AM/DH 155mm Cranks (vs OE 170 Praxxis Cadet). Bike went from mediocre to an extremely capable AM hardtail!
Wow that's a lot of wheel for that, but the back wheel on hardtails does tend to lead a tough life. That actually looks like a good use case for the enduro wides, the 2.6 will play nicer with the 33mm front rim than typical 2.4 or 2.5 front. Of course the Fathom won't clear plus tires, so no real reason to go up to 35mm rims. That's also some serious overforking on a Fathom, but it's probably no different than overforking a Roscoe and people do that all the time.
I can’t wait for a video you servicing those wheels. I have the same set and I don’t have an idea on how to start. I hace two sets of Hunt wheels. I love them.
Haha I totally understand. This was my 1st time upgrading to a set of non stock wheels. It is a big amount. But so far I have done several rides and I can say I am impressed.
You can add extra grease to the driver to quiet down a loud hub, even a i9 Hydra can be quieted down a lot this way. Or you can spend big bucks and get an Onyx hub which is completely silent.
The Rift Zone one comes with a boost quick release. But the bike frame is compatible with a thru axle. If you get the Rift Zone 2 and up it comes with a thru axle stock.
@@RunBikeMike Right now, probably the Norco Fluid FS1. It's $4000 but you're getting a Fox factory fork, perf elite shock, XT drivetrain, and nearly perfect geo for a 130/140 travel trail bike. There are also 3 cheaper builds all the way down to $2k. The Marin's geo is pretty modern, the wheelbase is actually quite long for a trail bike it's as long as an Ibis Ripmo which definitely is more of an enduro bike. Looking at the Rift Zone 1 build, you'd be probably 2k into upgrades to get a build where you could actually use that travel and geo to its potential.
That tire to rim “Magic” edit was on point!!! Awesome build up! Gonna look into this bike!

What size spacing did you order the wheels in and where do you purchase the thru axle?
Thanks for the mention! Dumonde Grease quite down hubs a lot. The Hunts are super stuff compared to a lot and another option right now are the Nukeproof Horizon since they are on sale. It's more supple but loader then the Hunts.
The NukeProof Horizon wheels are a great option. I really enjoy mine. Are you able to share where to get those cheap thru axles?

They are the trail wide. I am interested in trying the Enduro wide.
Hey mike! Do you remeber the dimension of the rear thru axel?

So far I have several good rides with them and they are awesome. It’s good to hear your longer term thoughts.

@@scottohare7863 That happens to most wheels after the first few rides, just the spokes breaking in, a quick wheel true and they're usually G2G

Thank you 😊. I tell you what I am very impressed with this bike. Dollar for dollar it is one of the most fun bikes I have ridden. So good.
Where did you find your thru axle?
This bike is looking pretty sweet! You might just make me buy one.. I have a 20 year old Marin hard tail that I cruise around town on, maybe a Rift Zone will be my first full suspension MTB
I got a last year rift zone 27.5 1 love it. Get the 2 model though. You won't be sorry
I’ve got Hunts on my Full Sus MTB and some very nice carbon Hunts on my gravel bike. They’re incredible value - the bearings are super smooth, the engagement is instant and the free hubs make a beautiful noise.
I also have those wheels, and in my opinion they are very much worth it. I ride through a lot of chunky terrain and they have yet to let me down.

no better deal than hunt wheels. love the gravel race set i got on my state gravel bike. looking to add some trail wides to my intense in spring
I was going to ask for the hub sound check but then you mentioned you like it quiet. I think I'll look at the hunt wheels!
I have you covered 😉 🔊Stock VS Hunt, YOU PICK

Grab a presta flator off of Amazon. Great for getting tires to seat.
I will check that out
Easy way to drop some more weight is new tires!!
JUST*ONE*CHANGE! !!

Nice upgrade, but me personally, I don't see me spending 400.
Wife won't let me, lol.

Lol
That seems to be a very reasonable price for those wheels. Do you have a clip of the hub sound? Maybe post a YT short comparing it to the stock?
I could do that for sure. I will try and post it in a day or so.
I made a short just now and will post it in a few days. 😊 thanks for the idea.
I'm also not a fan of noisy hubs!

You said you changed to through axle?
What did that bike come with?
The Rift Zone one comes with a boost quick release. But the bike frame is compatible with a thru axle. If you get the Rift Zone 2 and up it comes with a thru axle stock.
Yeah, sell it and get a better bike. You’re just wasting money upgrading.
Any suggestions
