- So many elements of Nate's TBI recovery are out of our control. There are so many things we wish we could take care of but they are in the hands of God and time.
But, those things we can control or help with, we make every effort to get Nate to whatever his best is.
At times, it feels like "Mission Impossible"... Other times, Nate starts doing stuff out of the blue and reminds us that there are still many "Mission Possible" opportunities.
I've compile a montage of a few things Nate has started doing lately. Things we have been trying to get him to do for months and then something just clicked and he's off and running.
Mission #1: Copy the Pattern
Using a set of colored sticks and circles, the mission is to copy the pattern Nate sees on the card. He is slow and methodical (the video speeds it up a bit!) but he gets the job done!
Mission #2: Stack the Blocks
This mission takes quite a bit of dexterity and concentration. I'll be honest and say those blocks come crashing down many times. But, when he does it, he does it! Watch for his concentration!
Mission #3: Match the Category
Out of all of Nate's missions, this is one of the most cognitively complex. Think about the levels of abstraction it would take to look at three similar objects (numbers, colors, shapes, etc) and choose a fourth similar object out of three options. That is A LOT of brain power!
Mission #4: Bowl a strike
Okay... This mission was just for fun. We went to a friend's birthday party where Nate had his first chance to bowl since his accident. He wasn't a particularly good bowler before his accident but he seems to have improved a bit!! :)
