@@zolo-p3p The best thing to do is help nearby shelters. Call them and ask what they need donated or help volunteer. Then you know you'll be helping homeless people in the best possible way.
I am not defending these scumbags, but I don't recognize this as scam at all because these idiots are giving their money away willingly, so at the end of the day no one really cares. If this is scam, then by logic 99% of actually homeless people are scammers. They say they need money for food, but they spend it on alcohol or weed.
Had a slight case of homelessness in 2020 for four months. Early on someone driving by offered me a quarter of their pizza. I cried into the pizza enjoying every bite but feeling guilty by taking what would have been given to someone in greater need. Took me a while to accept that I am deserving of the generosity of others.
Maybe if he gave him enough money he could've unlocked the secret good (but evil) ending where he manages to start an MLM company with the money given and offers to make charlie an early adopter.
In the UK we’re told not to give the homeless money but offer to buy them food/water instead. I think for the most part it’s to prevent donations being used for drugs, but I’ve never considered until now that it could also prevent this.
Honestly I don't care if someone would use the cash I gave them to buy drugs. Obviously it's bad to be addicted to drugs, but addiction recovery is complex, long, and difficult especially when you're dealing with the stress of being homeless. A small single donation probably isnt going to a big difference for them either way for recovery in the long term, so if they bought drugs with the money and it helped them get a night or a few hours of peace or easing their pain, I still feel I've done a good thing. I was also generally taught to offer to buy food or water instead of money too, but I just don't care what they do with it (......as long as they're actually in need, looking at you lady). If they really need it and are desperate, whatever they spend it on is going to be helpful for them whether that's physically, mentally, etc. Socks/underwear are a desperately needed item so if you aren't comfortable giving out money maybe you could buy and keep some in the car or in your bag to offer. I used to also carry about individually prepackaged granola, protein bars etc but I know a lot of homeless people don't trust being given food like that because there's awful horrible people out there who've deliberately poisoned food and drinks they gave out to the homeless to hurt and kill them just because they're homeless :(
Dunno if youve ever spent a winters night sat out on the street but it fucking sucks. Trust me, most homeless would rather a bottle of cheap alcohol or a spliff than food and water. Also like the other commenter said, clothes, underwear and blankets
Its funny to me when I see a homeless the same age as me. In my wonderful country full of kind people. My boss talks to and gives a job to the pan handlers on a bridge we gotta cross. Its farm work. Either they say no. Or last a couple days.
@@Rabiiid well not everybody is blessed with the physical capabilities to do hard farmwork. Old age ot physical disabilities can make that an impossibility. Plus some homeless people are battling addictions and you can't really hold a job when you're addicted to heroin can you?
@@Rabiiid what? Not everyone is a farm worker like you. A lot of homeless people are out in the city because that’s where they can either get help or apply for jobs that don’t require much experience. It’s sad but people do what they gotta do to survive.
The worst part is that the only people this really hurts is the ones who ACTUALLY need help. It makes people less likely to want to help the homeless if they think they might just be faking.
I once gave this homeless young man a giant cardboard box full of Panera bread that I won as a prize from a competition. The way he broke down and started crying while saying "thank you" really broke my heart. It seems like he had younger siblings to take care of and he was really worried about getting them some food. The look on his face still haunts me to this day and I feel guilty that I couldn't do more to help him because I was only a middle schooler back then. Since then, I've made a habit of donating money at least once a month. The idea that people would take advantage of other people's invulnerability like this really sickens me because not only do the people who need money not get it because scumbag scammers like these have given genuine homeless people a bad reputation, but they've also created trust issues for the people who do donate because they don't know if the other party is faking it or not. This type of news is going leave negative impact on others and people are going to be skeptical when helping others. It's awful all around and these scammers deserve jail time as well as some public record with their names and faces on them.
I agree, it should absolutely be illegal at a minimum. It’s way more common than you think too. Even smaller cities these days have more homeless people than it can handle..
This lady is literally the definition of a final boss. The missile throwing, random insult spitting, and moving to random locations just to escape the hero's attack.
@@dimyell so much shit retail workers have to deal with. It's insane. Why I try to be respectful to them. Cause I use to be one myself and know what kind of shit they deal with daily.
It can definitely be disheartening to see this happen. Especially as a person with disabilities who has struggled a lot financially. You want to ask for help but don't want to be seen as weak and incapable and/or don't want to be seen as a scammer of some sort. Which led me to keep to myself and struggle far more than i probably should have. Really a shame.
Internalized ableism does that. Able society's standards and expectations push us towards the edge of the cliff. We're plenty capable and strong, but if we aren't, so what? Incapability and weakness isn't inherently a bad thing. If we are unable, we are unable. And abled people need to deal with it.
@@_gorillazfreakinc._2 I couldn't agree more! We're humans and everyone goes thru hard times, it's impossible not to bc that's life and that's how we learn and grow and in my opinion reaching out shows strength
It definitely has that effect on me. I live in a big city that's expensive where panhandling pays a lot more than minimum wage so I'm suspicious of everyone.
Yeah this is the worst part of it I think, when I was little (like 11yo) I gave money to a beggar while out with my mom and she got angry at me and explained that the man was just a scammer. Haven't done anything like that since, because now everytime I see someone like that I immediately assume the worst.
Yep. And many of the comments say how she couldn't possibly be homeless coz her hair & clothes are clean. I'm homeless and care for myself. I can show you my pic on Instagram, you'd never think I'm either disabled to the point of wishing to die every night, nor that I'm sleeping in my 20yo car entire Rona just to be near my dying Mom (all apartments here are above my SSDI earnings + all landlords require you to make 3 times the monthly rent, and NO ONE on disability can do that. HUD/Sec8 is hard to come by, I've been on every list for years now). I hope she spends that money gotten from trusty kind people on medication. That's all.
Strangers have given me money and food so many times. I think it was because I never asked, I just looked pathetic without realizing it. One lady gave me 80 bucks when I was alone in a cafe around Christmas and had an argument with my mom on the phone. People kept thinking I was blind because I'm autistic and walk with a cane (I would correct them though when possible). Although I've been homeless, I usually had somewhere to live, but it was often unbearable to hang out there, so I used to spend a lot of time wandering the streets dragging my possessions behind me.
@@bananawitchcraft Are you doing okay now? Do you have all you need? During 2020 fires in my area, two friends from Twitch sent me money without me asking. I cried for days. They didn't know it at the time, but that money allowed me to house my very ill mother in a motel instead of on the floor at the local fire shelter center. She couldn't even get on the floor if you paid her. Another lady also from Twitch crocheted me a pillow, and yet another sent a book + a little care package that warmed my heart no end. I've never met any of them irl, but it doesn't matter.. i consider them friends and sisters. They'll be getting presents this Christmas, if I can only manage to drive to post office. She literally got hit with the “ma’am this is a McDonald’s drive thru”. Apparently we need to start giving crisis intervention training to these workers cause they’re always getting caught up in the middle of a felony in progress.
I think quite a few companies/corporations include training to prevent scamming, Walmart being a pretty big example. Unfortunately, many still slip through the cracks and I've heard of many cases of successful scams on places where training is provided. Common sense is the best tool to work against it.

My grandma does this. It's infuriating and me and my parents are all embarrassed and angry but we live in different countries and we can't stop her. She was arrested, released and went right back to doing that. She's also a pathological liar and has always acted in a rather bizarre way. I have bipolar and since it's hereditary, we've all been assuming she has it too. It's so sad, and my mom tried so hard to get her to get her meds but she just won't. It's so damn frustrating seeing this happen.
Not sure if you'll see this, but baker acting her is a viable option I lost my biological folks in June of 99 to a murder suicide My dad had bipolar and just lost it He wasn't on meds Id get your Gramma some help before something happens Hope y'all are all good now bro
Even better, if you baker act her, you can delegate the expensive costs to her Whether it's being held against her will and forced to take medication, or the 20,000$ cost to stay there for 3 days, she will get help, whether she wants it or not. Cheers dude, good luck

Scammers who fool people through logic are terrible people, but scammers who prey on the kindness of others are the worst kind of scum on this planet. Truly disgusting that anyone would think to do something like this. Props to the two lads exposing her despite her threats of murder.
I actually dont feel much for the homeless. I will do whatever i could do to stay off the street. I would murder people if needed. If our society is so flawed we are unable to help those who either cant work wich i wouldent be suprised if we are i would do watever i could to make a point that things need to be changed, i will strap myself with explosives and explode a place that denied my employment. However people are animals, literally, and despite our allmighty intelligence we fail to truly ever use it. Simple beasts do shitty things cuz they cannot process logic. Humanity cannot process logic correctly and act on sins aka desires. Greed and Sloth go hand in hand quite nicely. If som1 can do it and even THINK they can get away with it they will do it. People are out for themselves even when not.
I live in the country 45min outside Richmond and this is actually very common in our area. There’s two faux homeless families that panhandle the grocery store parking lot. Meanwhile there was a legitimate homeless family in the woods down the street. The father would literally walk miles to work to provide while his wife couldn’t work because she couldn’t just leave the children in woods.
That’s why I just give the money and hope they really need it. I don’t want the ppl that genuinely need help to miss out just because of ppl like this.
Honestly how I feel. Not to mention half of the west coast's cities have people with insane drug problems. Any money they get, they'll blow on drugs in a heartbeat. Which sucks because there's single parents out there who legitimately need the money.
You can be homeless and still have a car, it would've been so easy for her to just say, "I sleep in my car, it's all I have left," instead she goes the disabled route? Incomprehensible...
I remembered this lady just from the look of her. She actually had the audacity to start getting upset when cars passed her without giving and she probably felt like she was wasting her time for not enough money. I've been homeless a few times, and never felt that panhandling was a valuable use of my time. That said, I do find it annoying when people think having a cellphone, or a car, or "non homeless looking clothes" means you're trying to scam people. Living in a car is still a pretty rough spot to be in. It's also not like you just go trade in all your old stuff at the homeless store in exchange for a shopping cart and tattered clothes.
@@CircusFoxxo this lady is clearly not what op is talking about. The way she instantly got mad and ran off shows she doesn’t want to get caught.. If she was living in her car or something she’d probably say that..

My best friend in high school was homeless for a while, I used to go visit him under the bridge where he liked to hang out. I remember how hard it was for him and the other guys down there, sleeping on actual rocks and dealing with these nasty acidic caterpillars that would crawl across their skin and leave a red trail of agitated skin. Being homeless is no joke, but this lady sure is.
i'm not homeless but where i lived is infested with cockroaches, they came from the bathroom and kitchen drain and i don't go through a day without seeing a cockroach, they sometimes managed to crawl in my room at night and destroy my sleeps lol, there's also centipede, spiders, ensign wasp, and the worst of them all, FIRE ANTS ! You see i don't get through a year without getting sting by fire ants at least once, just now i woke up with 3 stings, 2 on my hand and one on the thigh, unbelievable
Stinging caterpillars can be real nasty. Always remember to remove the stingers with tape or something else sticky or it will continue to burn for much longer.
goddamn. I've been "legally homeless" for months before- living in a place with no water or electricity, while disabled- and that shit was one of the hardest times of my life. i still consider myself super lucky bc i had a running car, a job, and at least a building(ish) to live in and keep my pets safe. I could NEVER imagine faking it and lying about my situation so egregiously. absolutely wild. this is why we gotta fund social programs that actually help the unhoused.

I just want to say, when my brother and I were homeless he went out of his way to take care of me, and he never asked for anything after being homeless a lot longer than I had been, and yet everytime anyone asked him for anything he would always give it to them even if he didn't have much. RIP Joshua, love you brother.
He sounds like he was a great man. I hope someday you can find someone else like him, who would take such good care of you. Or maybe you already have, I hope so.

Wow, thank you for sharing that touching story. I wish we lived in a society where we didn't have to have stories like this, though. A society that didn't leave behind hungry babies or adults. I hope we get there one day, so no one is suffering unnecessarily. We have more than enough resources to make that a reality, but the greedy fks at the top are hoarding it. Those resources belong to the people, *us!* Sorry, I used to be homeless as well & I wouldn't wish it on anyone. People like to read our stories as "feel good" or poverty pr0n. To make themselves feel better that they're not suffering to that extent, when the conversation should actually be around *why* this is happening in the first place! 🥺 I hope we get there. So people like you, me & Joshua aren't forced to suffer in the first place. Inshallah we'll get there. Thanks again for sharing & I hope you're in a better place, now!! Things are prob not quite the way they seem. She is clearly mentally I’ll or something to be panhandling. It’s not much better than working at McDonald’s. Calling her a scammer because she has a car also isn’t the same as having a home. Many homeless people have cars. Many have even have jobs . And the level of mental disability she has clearly must be debilitating. Charlie’s narrative here comes from ignorance. This woman prob can’t hold a job.
Story time with Spoot: I was doing a lot of hard drugs at the age of 19, lost my friends, family and finally my place to live. I ended up homeless in Connecticut in late march (VERY cold). So I asked a friend to take a road trip with me to Georgia. I stayed in GA to live on the Appalachian Trail when he headed back to CT. I had minimal supplies no money and no choice I just had to make it work. Sitting outside places I would stop to rest at, people would make conversation and ask me about my trip so far. I would explain my situation honestly, but never once held a sign, asked for money, or even insinuated that I needed help. Simply said "ah just taking a lonesome venture to get clean and start new. Figuring things out as I go." Maybe it was because I was visibly young or maybe it was the fact I had in interesting story but people would come out of the store with bags of food and supplies to just hand to me and say "good luck, stay safe". Many people handed me cash on top of the things they bought. Many times I was holding back tears as these people not only helped me through these hard times, they sympathized and gave me advice and directions or info on good places to stay and clean up. Stranger hospitality is very very real and I quite literally might not be here to type this if it wasn't for the kindness of strangers. It breaks my heart into a million pieces to see people taking advantage of that kindness. I'm in a much better position now. I'm 25 and found work in pro hockey so anytime I see someone down on their luck I give what I can. I wont stop giving even though there's a chance that person is like this lady and I stress to all of you to please keep giving and don't let this effect that. Most people out there really truly relish that dollar or two.
I'm glad you're doing better, friend, and this message you shared is very true. There are very rotten people in this world, but there are people that just genuinely need help. Keep on fighting, boss.
Thank you for sharing your story, Spoot! I have shared mine somewhere here too .. current homeless due to disabilities & dying Mom.. I'm sleeping in a 20yo car & need an expensive surgery. I look just as "normal" and clean as her, but never would do what she's doing. Not even in war did we scam people.. we helped each other, and that's how most of us survived. (Bosnia, 90s. I was 14 when it started, 17 when we came to US and i had to start working, driving and being head of the family). From civil engineer to homeless just coz of illness i did nothing to bring on. But I still give, still drive other homeless in my city to thrift stores.. some are mean to each other, some are generous to a fault. Last night i couldn't get myself a drink or food, so I gave a homeless friend (whom i met by chasing him around thinking he's a thief, lol) some $ and tried to let him keep the change. He wouldn't. I insisted. Just as he was leaving, he tosses something into my car & drives off. It was the rest of the money I gave him & asked him to keep (coz at this moment his need is greater than mine, at least until the 3rd). He only bought himself a pack of cigs. That's all he'd accept, and I know for a fact he doesn't even have enough to fill up his gas tank.. which he used to get me the vitamin water I wanted. There's bad apples in every group of people wherever you look... including houseless. But there's also heart, integrity and conscience in many of us. I've had 2 homes in my life, now that's a car. I'm still the same person, with all the same principles, ethics and morals. Don't be fast to judge, you never know what someone is going through (houseless or not). If you give, give from the heart not expecting anything in return. People like this scammer woman are gonna regret it (i sound like dharman, lmao). I just say let it be on them if they scam me. My intention was pure. I give when i can and don't ask what they'll buy with it. Look at every big charity, and the money distribution of theirs. Directors get SOOOOO much, while a very little percentage goes to help those in need. This one woman cannot possibly scam more than they do, but we don't talk about that.
I’m currently homeless (in a women’s shelter, fleeing from Domestic Violence) with my four little girls. This lady is actively making people in my situation (or worse situations) have a harder time seeking and finding help. I’m still searching for a place to live right now. Then on to a job hunt. None of this is easy for me, but for her to steal people’s money with these lies so easily, is heartbreaking and infuriating. 💔 Edit: Thank you to all you’ve given me warm wishes, hearing your encouraging words has given me back some hope. I’m just getting to the point where I can admit to others what it was like. So your kindness is greatly appreciated. Thank you so very much. ❤️ To those who call me a bad mom, that I must be on drugs, that I should have known better, that I’m lazy for watching some RUclips videos to pass some time (even though you all are here too? I can have some breaks as well?), you are all so off base. I hope you never face hard times and hear such spiteful and downright ignorant words thrown at you. Obviously the DV was gradual, I was working before and not “leeching” off my ex, not everyone who needs help is a drug or alcohol user (that kind of thinking just makes it harder for people in hard times, just like the lady in this video), and… I couldn’t get out for myself, but I got out for my children. Best wishes to everyone. Please spread positivity, not hate. ❤️
This drives me crazy cause I worked in a heavily homeless area and I could very easily figure out who is homeless and who isn't (most of the time). The amount of scammers out there drives me nuts
What really pisses me off is that whenever I see “homeless people” I can’t tell if they’re actually struggling, I always hold the doubt now and believe that they’re liars, which I know inevitably will cause me to doubt people who truly do need help.
Wait you get pissed that you cant tell if they're homeless or because you dont like doubting whether or not someone is struggling in the case that they are? Just a bit confused
@@Concerned_Custodian both. because he can't tell if they are actually homeless or struggling he is more likely to ignore them because he doesn't want to get scammed. and because of this he will accidentally ignore someone who actually needed help. that is why this scam is so evil. it doesn't just harm you it harms those who actually need help who need your kindess and generousity. this scam makes it so much harder for them to get that helping hand they need.
Well, think of it this way... even if they're not homeless, they may still be struggling and need the money. So it's still helping. And hey, even if they're a scammer like this lady... if you give, you're still doing a kind thing. The dishonesty is on them, and it's a problem with them... And maybe something they'll have to answer for one day. So always be kind.
@@iambuhlockay8007 Eh as someone who's had very low points, I'd probably turn down a hotel honestly... The fact that they could possibly get access to the room because they're paying for it (on their card and whatnot, as a credit card is required for the VAST majority of hotel rooms) or even just know where I am sleeping/staying could be dangerous. And homeless people often turn down food because many people think its funny to give food they have messed with... put dog poop in or something... There was even a viral video of a guy giving out Oreos with toothpaste instead of cream because he thought it was funny. People are fucked, and the homeless are a very vulnerable population. They need to be SUPER careful.
Oof this one hit hard. I was homeless 13 days on a winter season, finding food and shelter was like paradise, but I never had the balls to beg for money. Seeing this really struck the nerve
was homeless for a year it was me, my 4 siblings, and parents all cooped up in a car and we were able to find a place to park in a church parking lot. the struggle is real
I used to walk to work with a book bag. I also used to collect cans on the "bad side" of my neighborhood. People used to try to give me money and things, thinking I was homeless. Each time, I would try to explain i wasn't homeless and was on my way to work and that i didn't need it( I had a stocking job and there was a really relaxed dress code). It's amazing how many good people there are out there who really want to help others.
I used to dumpster dive for shits, giggles and profits (eBay). People tried to give me food and money on multiple occasions. I took it anyway because I actually was quite poor and trying to save money to move someplace with better prospects. A bag of canned goods here and $10 there wasn't a huge difference, but I appreciated every chip it took out of my living costs.
@@AngryReptileKeeper true. one thing i went a long time without buying was shoes. I was always able to find a pair of discarded shoes that were in better shape than the pair i was already wearing (just make sure to clean them first). homeless or not, with the cost of living, any break you can get (so long as you're not taking advantage of anyone) Is welcome.
What pisses me off the most is this hurts homeless people even more. Firstly, she's taking money that could've gone to actually helping the homeless. Secondarily, now some people are gonna think twice about giving money if they got scammed by fake homeless, now more people are gonna be less likely to give out of fear of being scammed.
Money doesn't help homeless people because they buy what they want/need and they have little or no way of getting more, unless they ask other people for it. Giving a homeless person an opportunity helps they use their skills and feel good about what they've done. The woman in the video doesn't feel good about anything and has no respect for other people, such that she'll exploit them under false pretenses.
This lady is the reason why I was taught to only give food and drink to the homeless, never money. Because you don't know if they're a scammer or if they're gonna use the money to fuel their drug/alcohol habits instead of using it to take care of themselves

What's terrible is when these type of scammers use their children. I once saw a father who brought his entire family (wife and 2 young kids) and stood by the entrance holding a sign. The children were young but old enough that they felt embarrassed. They looked mortified and kept their heads down the whole time. Felt badly for them 😢
@Artsy Fartsy that says a lot about you as a good person. Just know in one way or another, you're helping the children too. The parents who do this should get a vasectomy though, despicable. I've fallen for it too. I'm just glad I have great parents that wouldn't dream of making me feel this uncomfortable especially as childrens.
It was extremely messed up during the lockdowns, at least around where I live. My husband and I were also out of a job, but we were blessed enough to stay afloat, so we always helped these families when we could. Then quarantine ended, and there they still were, keeping their babies out in the brutal Texas heat. Winter came, one of the coldest we had in decades, and there they were, with their kids. Then one day, they disappeared, but not just them, ALL panhandlers vanished. Signs were put up all over the city to discourage giving money to panhandlers. As it turns out, letting your toddlers run in traffic isn’t a good idea, and now even the people who actually do need the help are screwed over by these people’s disgusting, manipulative, selfishness. Everything about that situation makes me sick and regret ever helping them and encouraging their disgusting behavior.
Yes I love that this resurfaced. I was a homeless youth and man I had the same pair of ripped shoes for 5 years with the same ripped pants and a few different colored shirts. I’d only eat at school during lunch hour and when winter came man it wasn’t easy. I’m now sleep in a bed under a roof but my god to see someone try and act homeless is disgusting
I knew a good homeless man named Shawn he was a nice dude but sadly all good thing must come to an end sense later on he died apparently he had something in his arm that spread up to the heart and he had a heart attack to this day I still visit the bench he sat on. Rest in peace Shawn
Similar thing happened for me. I used to work at a Dunkin’ Donuts store near the subway. Right outside our store, a homeless man would sit on a crate between our store and the subway everyday asking for money. I’d always give him a dollar or two before I entered the store to start my shift. I’d also give him a cup of water and free coffee and donuts whenever he asked. He was always grateful for what I gave him. During my last few months there, he stopped coming at his spot and I assumed something bad happened to him. I’d sometimes look out the windows from the store to see if he was there or not. He really liked glazed donuts and liked his coffee with milk and sugar
I have a similar story, my Dad actually knows multiple homeless people, I remember this one time, we were stuck in a traffic jam, and this one homeless guy actually got on the road and started directing traffic and he was actually doing a pretty good job, my Dad then pulled up to him and the homeless guy recognized my Dad, they talked for a while before my Dad went on his way, another homeless guy my Dad knows, I'm acquainted with him too, is this guy we give our leftovers to, I don't know what he does with the food that's gone bad, but he takes that as well

back in 2012, i worked at chick-fil-a, and my heart broke when my manager told a woman standing at the end of the drive-thru with her baby that she had to leave. customers had been giving her money or buying her sandwiches, and i was working drive-thru and was the one who told him about it. i felt really guilty as i watched him tell her that she had to leave the premises. and then she stepped into her modern mercedes and drove off.
You really had me in the first half- but I had a similar thing happen to me. A houseless man approached our window when I worked at McDonald’s, and he was asking if we had any leftover food. Since I was new, I went in and asked a manager and I was told to not give him anything (assuming that he’d keep coming back for more), and it really upset me. We waste so much food already, so to see hungry people being denied cheap scraps made me hold an even deeper resentment to establishments like McDonald’s altogether.
Charlie's story helps to contextualize a bit more why Charlie doesn't want to work with third party "charities" anymore. Fake homeless scammers are just as bad as fake or shady charities.
99% of charities are like that, that's just how it works, its life. Charlie got dosed with an injection of reality, which had a side effect of making him short
I generally don't give to charities any more because I've learned enough about them since I was a teenager. The inflated CEO pay, the money being spent on bullshit, if I thought my "$10 will give an african child water for a year" then I would give a whole lot to charity, but in reality my $10 is probably going to end up as 0.01% of the salary of someone who makes way more than I do and it really kills the vibe. That is, if it isn't just a front for some kind of money laundering operation or a facade for an evil political goal.
@@Person01234 thats why when you find a charity that actually does shit its such a big deal. The thing that really upsets me is people treat homeless people like absolute garbage. The idea of moonlighting as a homeless person and then getting in your nice car, going back to your home, and relaxing on your couch while counting your cash is so incredibly scummy. Just inhumane. Taking money from real homeless people and ruining the trust people have in the arrangement so they hesitate to give when an actual disadvantaged individual shows up.
And that's why I've always been told you buy them food or a coat, not give them money. If they're truly homeless, they will appreciate any kind of help. The scammers will be upset if they don't just get cold hard cash.

Anyway, it seems to be something that should be nurtured despite the oppisite actions of others.
Damn, Charlie... I’m sorry that happened to you. I was homeless for a long time after I got home from Iraq, but I’m not anymore because of the VA. Any veteran who tells you they’re homeless has options for getting out of the situation and being housed. It’s a program called HUD VASH (VA Supported Housing) the VA will pay up to $625/month for your rent, along with a utilities allowance check at the beginning of every month. This program has no time limits whatsoever, so a veteran can be in it for as long as they need the assistance. During your time in the program, they will assign an employment specialist to assist you in finding a permanent job to provide steady income for you. Any veteran who remains homeless is doing so either because they were dishonorably discharged and lost their VA benefits or is refusing to meet the requirements of the program (no alcohol in the household, no drugs/paraphernalia, no criminal activity of any kind, etc. Not unreasonable requirements. If you encounter a veteran that is homeless, direct them to the nearest VA facility, do NOT give them monetary assistance at all.
I remember one time my friends and I were hanging out by the river, and we had brought a lot of food. In the 90s there was this famous panhandler called "The Shaky Lady" who preyed on tourists in Toronto. Her sign said she was old, homeless and sick and would pray for people who gave her money, all the while trembling severely. One day a reporter followed her and found out that not only did she not shake, she had a fully furnished apartment and didn't live alone. That was when I first realized people would literally scam being homeless.
"The "Shaky Lady" - I was trying to remember the nickname the media gave her. - It was also found her other family members/son were actively helping her scam, she drove a high end vehicle, lived in a fully furnished high end "apartment"/condo, and was far from having any of the illnesses she claimed. I remember the Toronto Sun plastering her face on the front page, then not long after reports of the "Gypsy's" in Scarborough on Kingston road - massive "families" were taking over entire motels and scamming pretty much right in front of the motels. They would have their kids running wild like it was amusement park, took a while but eventually it was over, not sure if the police were involved in either case or not. Toronto the great, lol
living in ny has caused me to cease giving to homeless ppl. once seen a homeless guy walk into a store right after giving him money & he pulls out a stack of 100's to buy a pack of cigarettes. 'homeless' guy was doing better than me.
Growing up I was always taught "never give homeless people money, if you want to help them, give them something to eat." It's a much better way of doing things, sometimes homeless people are struggling with addiction and sometimes they aren't even homeless. Giving them food means at least they can eat.
I was taught this too, my dad bought a homeless man a whole bag of food and drinks during Christmas because he saw the man sitting Infront of the store every time he went to the store, the man was so appreciative he started crying, and a month after that our car broke down near the store and the same man came to help push our car to a parking spot as thanks. Homeless people are some of the kindest most appreciative people I've ever met, they do not act like this woman.

Only thing is he wasn’t homeless, had a family and openly bragged about how much money he would get from people everyday. He’d even get territorial with other people who would try and busk or panhandle in the same area.
There has been an ongoing situation in major cities in Europe where gangs are basically putting old, disabled, (or normal for that matter) people outside major places like malls, supermarkets and train stations with fake signs like "I am starving, please help me", "I am so cold, anything helps" and so on, and they basically sit there as a job all day collecting money from kind strangers, and eventually the gang comes and collects their money. They go around town collecting money from all these ""homeless"" people they place and make a lot of money, and even get territorial with genuinely homeless people who try to just receive enough aid for food or heat (winter gets cold up north), so a lot of people have just stopped giving money to homeless people altogether, because it's hard telling if they're an organised scammer or genuinely in need of help.

This is not only infuriating because of the obvious reasons but also because it makes people reluctant to help legitimate people that need it
It definitely has that effect on me.

I'm determined to somehow repay their kindness, no matter if it's 2yrz later. Just wish I could buy them something like a vacation, but it's gonna be much, much smaller scale gifts.

Yep.. the world has its share of shitty people
Story time with Spoot: I was doing a lot of hard drugs at the age of 19, lost my friends, family and finally my place to live.
I’m glad your here right now, you seem a lot stronger than I would be in that situation
I'm glad you're doing better, friend, and this message you shared is very true. There are very rotten people in this world, but there are people that just genuinely need help. Keep on fighting, boss.
Almost cried this is too wholesome, glad you are here to tell
Thank you Spoot, that was a heartwarming story time.

Offer to give them food, or even pay for a hotel for a night or two if you feel you can afford it. Someone who truly needs help won’t turn that down.
@@PsychadelicWolf Yeah, don't stop helping where you can, just offer food and water instead, even better if you can give them something bagged/canned they can save for a few days.

@@PsychadelicWolf Yeah, I've been scammed a few times and it really put me off giving money but I'd still give people food if they asked or supplies like an umbrella, blanket, etc.
@Artsy Fartsy That’s why they bring the kids along. To tug on the heartstrings of suckers.
Do any of you people here remember the video of the pregnant woman pretending to be homeless while her son was with her?

I've seen charities that spend almost as much if not more money for ads than to actually help the people who need it
I generally don't give to charities any more because I've learned enough about them since I was a teenager.

One day a reporter followed her and found out that not only did she not shake, she had a fully furnished apartment and didn't live alone. That was when I first realized people would literally scam being homeless.
Her and the “BELIEVE” guy are staples of our great city
"The "Shaky Lady" - I was trying to remember the nickname the media gave her. - It was also found her other family members/son were actively helping her scam, she drove a high end vehicle, lived in a fully furnished high end "apartment"/condo, and was far from having any of the illnesses she claimed.
I remember the Toronto Sun plastering her face on the front page, then not long after reports of the "Gypsy's" in Scarborough on Kingston road - massive "families" were taking over entire motels and scamming pretty much right in front of the motels. They would have their kids running wild like it was amusement park, took a while but eventually it was over, not sure if the police were involved in either case or not.

living in ny has caused me to cease giving to homeless ppl. once seen a homeless guy walk into a store right after giving him money & he pulls out a stack of 100's to buy a pack of cigarettes.

These days I'll usually just give homeless people food if I can. Bought a guy asking for money at a Tim Hortons a bagel and coffee and he seemed very thankful for it.
I dont give anyone anything. Nobody helps me so fuck em.
Charlie comes from money, but at least he’s generous with it
Tim Hortons food? You might as well have slapped him in the face
@@fake_7106 Does he actually? What does his parents do?
Canada homeless are different
years ago my brother learned the hard way about so called homeless people. i was with him when he once gave a so called homeless guy a dollar, which was his last dollar he had until payday. thinking that he did something nice that day proved him wrong when this homeless guy insisted that a dollar wasnt enough and needed more. hearing this infuriated my brother. so then he said to the so called homeless guy, "im sorry give me the dollar back and ill make it better". he did and my brother then told him, now you get nothing. this was a classic moment ill never forget.
im calling bs on that, a scammer would NOT give the money back
I was homeless from February to July of this year ended up losing 15-20 pounds but the worst part was not being able to shower. Thankfully I'm in a much better place now. There are people who are legitimately in desperate need of help and I too am filled with absolute disgust when I see people pan handling who are genuinely not homeless, using up the generosity and taking money away from the people who really need it. I never pan handled or asked for anything but if somebody had come up and given me a sandwich or anything I would have broken down in tears. Always offer food instead of money because the fakes won't want that kind of generosity.
Yep, every time I’ve offered the food I have on me to someone “sooo hungry” they immediately turned it down in disgust and asked for restaurant food ($6 a slice pie) or money for “food”
I remember being 16 and going to Walmart by myself and this woman was crying outside and had a small baby on her shoulder and I asked her what was wrong. She claimed she didn't have any money for baby food and she was frantic and hysterical, begging for someone to help her feed her baby. I went straight in, got cash back on a drink and gave her $20. She hugged me, said thank you, and hopped in an Escalade. I was so pissed I didn't even feel anything.
Time to vandalize some property👌
I dont see how people don't feel an overwhelming amount of embarrassment from scamming someone so openly. My shame would paralyze me
thats why you ONLY give homeless people food/items directly. never money. It's sad but the only way
just dont give people money...
@@whatdoyoucallanalligatorin9174 I've chatted with "homeless" people many times that try and give me food 🤦♂️ they have a bag of sandwiches and food they can't even eat that people give them. In South East London the majority of people begging aren't homeless. They're heroin addicts who do it because it's lucrative. If people stopped giving them cash it might actually incentivise them to try to get some help
Panhandlers can make a lot. I remember growing up really poor and not having money for basic things like rent, food, or school supplies. Churches would donate food boxes to us sometimes which absolutely saved our lives during the rough months. My single mother was working as a server and would rarely be home I had to raise myself for the most part. Thankfully her boyfriend at the time used to be homeless and he panhandled one time to help us not be evicted. One day of doing this he made around $700. I’m so thankful to the generous people who helped us, it’s disgusting people are less trusting now because of how common these scams are.
