I was born in North London my family were all brickies and chippies going back years. My Grandad who hailed from hollow way, he served through the Blitz as a CD and saw London destroyed by the luftwaffe and helped fellow Londoners. In the 60s he told my dad we're moving out of London. It broke my mums heart a London girl threw and threw. But my grandad explained what London would become and by God he was right. As a child I was part of the white flight ripped away from my roots for the better good. East Anglia is now my home and I'll die on this hill if need be to protect this ancient kingdom.
Same here my parents moved to Essex from Islington 1967. I was 18 at the time but I could see then what was happening. Our beautiful road had blocks of Victorian houses pulled down to build flats...which later became slums that were again pulled down. London for me as a teenager was a safe place I worked and went clubbing in the city ...would never go back to visit the London of my birth ( Royal northern hospital Holloway road )

All my schooling was done in these two counties and though born in London at 63 I now identify as an east anglian. All my London relatives are now dead any alive are distant because of the passage of time. I severed all ties with London, and wild horses couldnt drag me back. I embraced the rural way of life and have loved every minute of it. In fact I have been vocal on how recent flights from London have buggered up rural communities, unlike me and my family who embraced rural life, and didnt push house prices up or want to bring London and its problems with them.

In 1980 my white landlord sold the house in forest gate to Bangladeshis. A family of 6 moved upstairs to us. They threw broken glass into the garden failed to collect the rent allowed water to pour through the ceilings...we spoke to a housing officer in Newham...he said there was no social housing for us. ..so we had to leave our community and family support...this was harassment and the council officer did NOTHING

My Aunt from Cambridge was posted to London when she joined the WAAF during WW2. She met my Uncle whilst there and after the war they ran\owned(?) a pub in the Brixton area. Sometime in the 60s or 70s they gave it up and moved out of London because they felt like they were being pushed out. They eventually found a pub in a village just outside Guildford to run.
It’s disgusting. My family are from Woolwich Arsenal. Used to go there a lot as a kid from Hertfordshire. My Great Nan and my Grandad who served in both wars lived on an estate. Friendly local people. Doors were left open and everyone checked in on her away from our absence. Fast forward the 80s/early90s it all changed. Crime, Robberies and Drugs. Culture changed people changed it went down hill and fast. Nan was robbed by 2 men of colour pretending to work for the Gas board, Great Grandads war medals stolen 😔. Upon going up there with my brother. Walking to the nearest station approached by 3 ethics wanting to Rob us after visiting my Heartbroken Great Nan. Went a few rounds walked away unscathed to get the train. Pleaded with my Nan to come live in Herts. She wouldn’t out of love for my Grandads memory. She died there 92. All my memories growing up playing with all the local kids left in the gutter. Where did it all go wrong to allow such animals onto our streets. That’s what people are fleeing from brother!! Lovely place until the early 2000s when mass colonization started happening. Crime shot up, gangs took over, muslim gangs being the main ones. When I used to go to Spain, France, Italy, Turkey I used to love to sample the culture for the 2 weeks or so I was there. It was nice to sample their identity but I never once wished to impose my culture on them. Also I didn't want to come home and find neighbourhoods that lost their identity, I wanted people to come over or even live here, submerged in our identity. When you lose your identity you lose your way and wander aimlessly into something you never wanted. Sometimes its to late before you realise. Identity is everything.

One factor was in the early 60s in east London there was an option to move out to places like Essex when the government began knocking down the slums to rebuild so that left a void, also there are a lot of white people in those areas but the not all working the working class job so you won't see them until the restaurants and dirty raves are open. In my opinion London is a relic and it just about works but for how long? There is a whole country outside of London and it's really good fresh air places to walk views beyond high-rises.
It was like this in the '60s in West London, we lived in Southall. My Dad decided to move us all out of the country in 1969, to South Africa. I feel such a sadness for what London and the rest of England has become. It's deliberate in my opinion.

Reading about 19th century London is always fascinating. How do you like Charles Dickens and what would be your favorite book? My favorite so far is Great Expectations, so far Bleak House is pretty complicated but intriguing. I mentioned these books because you seem to have a very old soul like you've been here and one this before. When reading Dickens I always have to look up certain words as they have a different meaning and the items they used back then or at least some of them aren't used anymore. My Aunt from Cambridge was posted to London when she joined the WAAF during WW2. She met my Uncle whilst there and after the war they ran\owned(?) a pub in the Brixton area. Sometime in the 60s or 70s they gave it up and moved out of London because they felt like they were being pushed out. They eventually found a pub in a village just outside Guildford to run.
It’s disgusting. My family are from Woolwich Arsenal. Used to go there a lot as a kid from Hertfordshire. My Great Nan and my Grandad who served in both wars lived on an estate. Friendly local people. Doors were left open and everyone checked in on her away from our absence. Fast forward the 80s/early90s it all changed. Crime, Robberies and Drugs. Culture changed people changed it went down hill and fast. Nan was robbed by 2 men of colour pretending to work for the Gas board, Great Grandads war medals stolen 😔. Upon going up there with my brother. Walking to the nearest station approached by 3 ethics wanting to Rob us after visiting my Heartbroken Great Nan. Went a few rounds walked away unscathed to get the train. Pleaded with my Nan to come live in Herts. She wouldn’t out of love for my Grandads memory. She died there 92. All my memories growing up playing with all the local kids left in the gutter. Where did it all go wrong to allow such animals onto our streets. That’s what people are fleeing from brother!! Grew up in borehamwood, herts, and spent alot of time in north london, exactly the same mate.. nan and grandad born and bred in the east end and basically forced out of their area after the war and moved to herts. Lovely place until the early 2000s when mass colonization started happening. Crime shot up, gangs took over, muslim gangs being the main ones. Nothing being done, girls being raped,people being stabbed, mugged,shot left right and centre. I moved to wales, and still regret it but its safer for my girls ♥️
If you take a look at who is running the inner London councils….
I live in inner London still ….people I know that have lived for generations in social housing are being told they must move away ( as it’s their only choice) but any local council homes are always given to African or those from a Muslim origin
They don’t become neighbours they keep to themselves….slowly destroying any feel of community…until they have the safety of numbers….this has been put into overdrive in the last 20 years….ive seen it with my own eyes

When I used to go to Spain, France, Italy, Turkey I used to love to sample the culture for the 2 weeks or so I was there. It was nice to sample their identity but I never once wished to impose my culture on them. Also I didn't want to come home and find neighbourhoods that lost their identity, I wanted people to come over or even live here, submerged in our identity. When you lose your identity you lose your way and wander aimlessly into something you never wanted. Sometimes its to late before you realise. Identity is everything.

One factor was in the early 60s in east London there was an option to move out to places like Essex when the government began knocking down the slums to rebuild so that left a void, also there are a lot of white people in those areas but the not all working the working class job so you won't see them until the restaurants and dirty raves are open. In my opinion London is a relic and it just about works but for how long? There is a whole country outside of London and it's really good fresh air places to walk views beyond high-rises.
It was like this in the '60s in West London, we lived in Southall. My Dad decided to move us all out of the country in 1969, to South Africa. I feel such a sadness for what London and the rest of England has become. It's deliberate in my opinion.

There are a lot of white people here from many different countries, then you have the Afrikaners who arrived here from Holland in the 1600s. Not all the indigenous people are Zulu, there are many ethnic groups such as Xhosa, Sotho, Venda and others. We also have so-called coloured people and Asian/Indians.
I feel your pain my father family and myself came from London moved out of Brixton/ Balham area in the 1960's.Myself I live now in Sweden and have done for 30 years after serving 20 odd years in the military. And now have two daughters here in Sweden & have returned too London many times but not recently, have been with my daughters when they were small but am a pensioner now and they ask when can we go together again too London dad !? I've had to move from the North (midlands) because of bullying from Asian gangs .The inner-city area in the North is horrendous. I'm over 70 and was living amongst drug gangs and guns and money laundering .Lads masked up whizzing around on scooters. How I was being treated ,they wouldnt treat their elderly in this manner

My family moved out of south Norwood after the Brixton riots but it wasn't the only reason as my dad was a daily user of public transport and was witness to the rise of "diversity " and with that a steep rise in muggings and violence. He came to London in the early 60s when you could walk the streets of London at night in relative safety.

I lost my father two weeks ago so I have been still mourning his passing and I have been burying myself in Charles Dickens novels. Trying to read Bleak House and am 21 chapters into it. Reading about 19th century London is always fascinating. How do you like Charles Dickens and what would be your favorite book? My favorite so far is Great Expectations, so far Bleak House is pretty complicated but intriguing. I mentioned these books because you seem to have a very old soul like you've been here and one this before. When reading Dickens I always have to look up certain words as they have a different meaning and the items they used back then or at least some of them aren't used anymore.

Speaking as a person l came from co. Durham moved to Doncaster age 8 year with my mam and dad their was seven of us ( children back in the late sixty then l saw my first black (person ) + family it was strange but we rub a long ok then years later in the 1979 l got married lived in wakefield at first we were looking into buy a back to back house anyway thing's change Margaret thatcher got in all change we didn't buy our house anyway move to another part of wakefield and got on with life maybe ten years late l began noticing Asians 1 or 2 family's year later more then I walked though the place we were going to buy our first home and l couldn't believe they had move into nearly all the back to back houses and also our doctors , which was near by so glad we didn't buy one but slowly but surely most all the houses Have become Asians homes and the most White's have left . This is what happen houses that are near towns they move in either delivery people or taxis which are owned by Asians slowly taken over more areas
