Almost forgot to watch this. I was out crappie fishing yesterday when it dropped. Not too many. I realize my first 30 years of catfishing I don't know anything compared to what I've learned here the last few years. Thanks a ton as always for sharing brother!! 👍🏽👊🏽✊🏽☺💯
That was great. Particularly the part about similar sized chunks to not add bias. Gotta say surprised by crappie low rank... Really liked when they were describing the fish taste texture....verses 1st 2nd 3rd
Sometimes I forget how lucky I am to live where I do. I’m not a fan of New Yorks politics, cost of living, or weather, but western NY has some of the best fishing on the planet. We don’t have blues or flats but we have some channel cats that rival some of the blues. As you can see in my pic lol. But nothing beats the insane variety of fish we have. From 6-8lbs smallmouth, 50” musky and 30lbs kings to 7lbs largemouth, 16” perch, and trophy 20+ lbs trout of all species (I don’t think we have tiger trout tho). We also have sturgeon but you’re not allowed to fish for them in NY.
When it's cold I've found that weather trends need to be 3+ days. Then fish usually get more patternable, mainly because the bait tends to gather better either deep or shallower.
Perfect opportunity, and you used it. Good trip, content. Lived in north central Iowa-Humbolt/Dakota City- while in my single digit age. DesMoines ran on both sides of town then joined into one couple miles south. They had a bait there, back then, called sour carp. Haven't come across it anywhere else, but have started some using it after being with me using it. Carp fillets, cubed to your target size, 1 inch and up. Was soaked in tepid water, some milk, spoiled but not rotted. Caught all four whisker verities with it.
I use to do that every year at the coralville res. Hard to keep the rotten shad on the hook but ya they Jorge themselves every year in the shallows after ice out! Fun times!!
I had several days like that last year but I wasn't using shad. I'm glad to see that you had a really good day of catching them cats. They was some nice channels.
This time of year shad guts are my go-to bait. Vile smelling stuff that requires gloving up and can be hard to keep on the hook but they really hammer them in the spring.
I’m glad they haven’t made smellavision! I was thinking that it must smell pretty bad but cats don’t mind they like gross stuff! Another great video Spencer!
@@RiverCertified definitely. I just ordered a lot of tackle, it’s time to fish in New England! Ya whoooo!! I might be a bit excited. Don’t have a boat so I fish off the bank. Thinking of getting a John boat. Something my wife and I can carry. Put in comfortable seats and my Electric 1960’s era motor.
almost as bad as the fish kills from red tide when I was a kid in Florida, only in Fla. it happened in the hottest part of summer, this was back before A/C was an affordable luxury. It still brings tears to my eyes just thinking about the wonderful smells
Talons are absolutely worth the investment if you fish shallow at all. Even better if you are in current or waves because they constantly monitor themselves and automatically adjust their depth to maintain the anchor. PowerPoles aren’t bad but they don’t hold nearly as well as Talons. And they don’t monitor their depth.
Hey Spencer, what's up with the ugly stick rods? You and Whisker Seeker didn't get mad did you? I have been looking forward to the new rods I think y'all were have gonna have out soon I hope 😮
been wondering the same thing, my guess has been that the smaller rods are more enjoyable for the smaller fish and cheaper to buy bulk off being a guide
I appreciate you filming great content for me to enjoy ...I can't wait for kayak and flat head season ...I showed my buddy how you fish up in the trees and tangles and catch some really nice flat heads and he was like yeah right now way he pulls fish outta there ..and I go pfffft Spencer is the catfish whisperer lol and tell em you gotta rish losing some gear to catch giants like you lol
You probobmy alrady know this but stainless steel soaps, works on smells so if you dint have one might want to try one out. Absolute oleasure as always Sir! Thanks for taking us along the ride, takes the edge of since i cant go do anything myself becuse my back hit the fan. Cheers again bud
What a terrible problem to have to suffer through, but at least it was a nice Blessing to have had the crushed ice of a semi frozen slushy to help keep the fragrance down to a minimum. Imagine that being say 10 degrees warmer, and no breeze to push it past you. Yet I'm betting if the fish were biting, you'd have struggled through all the same. Sacrifices one takes for the addiction of possibly catching a very nice fish. Makes one wonder what normal people are doing on such days as this doesn't it.. Exactly my point. 😂
I've been following you for awhile and love all your posts ! I rock my River Certified hat everywhere ! I'm in South Central Wisconsin and have some spots to share with you on the Wisconsin River ! I am also interested in booking a guided cat hunt with you sometime, so send me some information on that if floats your boat !
Noticed you've not used Whisker Seeker rods in last few videos. Why not? Using the good ol' GX2 by Ugly Stik, and even seen the Big Game $20 rod from Wal-Mart.
I'm also curious about the rods, you normally have Whisker seeker but these look like thy Ugly stik GFX can you provide any info? I'm a big fan of both brands but can't find the GFX with longer handles
Hey Spencer!! Would you make a video that covers your fishing poles and reels. I’m wanting to put something together like you are using in this video but I don’t even know where to start…
Like I know the channel cats aren't all the same color but 2 cats caught in the same area that are totally different in color is pretty cool if you ask me lol
Almost forgot to watch this. I was out crappie fishing yesterday when it dropped. Not too many. I realize my first 30 years of catfishing I don't know anything compared to what I've learned here the last few years. Thanks a ton as always for sharing brother!! 👍🏽👊🏽✊🏽☺💯
Just a great trip. Seems we can tolerate a lot if the fish are biting. Thanks for taking us out on the cold and windy day. Stay safe.
Spencer is THE KING OF THE CAN-DO ATTITUDES!!!
That was great. Particularly the part about similar sized chunks to not add bias. Gotta say surprised by crappie low rank...

It just blows my mind this guy can catch more catfish in one episode then I have my whole life here in Washington State 😂
Go to Yakima river catfish there
Living in the wrong state
@@benstevens4228 yeah for cats but I do appreciate the king, silver, sturgeon, and steelhead around here.
Man I don't have catfish either. But makes me want to go somewhere to catfish

"We're here and we're tryin'!" In the building trades, that's what I was taught as the first rule of any successful endeavor...you have to show up! 😉♥
I mean, I think it's pretty sound logic.
Some great fishing! Again, great fun and thanks for taking us along!
God bless all here.
I really, really, really appreciate you out these in the cold icy stinking chad smelling winds to catch them fish.
I wish I could fish with you bubba u catch some Danks almost every time 😂😂

It looks to be a different form of ice fishing. Fascinating.
I use to do that every year at the coralville res. Hard to keep the rotten shad on the hook but ya they Jorge themselves every year in the shallows after ice out! Fun times!!
It's like a turtle bite! In like 6 inchs!

Caught one this morning with a dead shad in stomach
Without a doubt, it's the best coldwater bait. Which reminds me. I need to get some latex gloves.
I’m glad they haven’t made smellavision! I was thinking that it must smell pretty bad but cats don’t mind they like gross stuff! Another great video Spencer!

Always a good adventure with Spencer , lol
Again you done another great down to earth fishing video!!! That's man for sharing
I can't wait to see you on your kayak. Fishing for flatheads. Getting close to that time of the year. Isn't it?
When I was living in Iowa a year ago there were crazy people out kayaking in the rivers with huge chunks of ice still floating in it.
@@KatiTheButcher lol I guess the weather and river conditions didn't matter to these people you are talking about.
I'm learning a lot. Cant wait to put it in use this year. Yes it's been a long winter. Thx for the awesome video
Glad to hear it. Good luck out there man!
almost as bad as the fish kills from red tide when I was a kid in Florida, only in Fla. it happened in the hottest part of summer, this was back before A/C was an affordable luxury. It still brings tears to my eyes just thinking about the wonderful smells
The action in the shad graveyard is awesome !
haha the shad graveyard. I dig it.
Nice video cats in the shad looks like lot fun
That’s crazy with all the shad floating in the water. Great video!

good to know. I'm definitely looking into them.
Go Cubs! Can’t wait to catch some catfish here in Arizona this year.
Hell yeah! Good luck man!
Hey, my sticker made it on to your tackle box! Sweet!
Fun to see all those slush puppies
Awesome video as always Spencer. Thanks for sharing!
Talk about chumming lol, great video spencer
Love cold water Catfishing, for one you hardly ever run into other people fishing! The fish also taste better from the cold water .
Ya always seem to have fun and you got lucky with the shad floaters
I'm better at having fun than catching fish haha. thanks for watching!
Wow you kick those kitty’s butts👍👍👍
Excellent! Thank you RC
Hey Spencer, what's up with the ugly stick rods? You and Whisker Seeker didn't get mad did you? I have been looking forward to the new rods I think y'all were have gonna have out soon I hope 😮
Still a lot of WST gear he has. The braid, net, fish grips but I’m wondering what’s up myself
been wondering the same thing, my guess has been that the smaller rods are more enjoyable for the smaller fish and cheaper to buy bulk off being a guide

I'm gonna head south and hopefully find a few early ones. Fingers crossed it works out. Glad ya enjoy it man!
That was a nice trip out!
Grosser the better when using winter kill shad.
Get the ones with a lil green on them that are still firm

That Shad graveyard looked like a shady slushy 😆😆 everything cool with you and WST? Haven’t seen the orange and black in awhile.
Seriously tho
I prefer meat hunters so idc he should make the change to meat hunter fishing rods
Awesome video it truly looked like you were fishing the bering straight lol can't wait for the next one keep those lines tight my friend
My back still hurts from the ride back to the ramp haha. Thanks for all the support man!
Another aswsom video brother keep them coming I'll be here watching always. Peace out from Ohio Don T
Awesome video man! There is nothing like pulling up to a fishing spot with a shad cocktail on the rocks waiting for you.😂😂😂
It's the most shad I've seen piled into a cove ever. Kinda cool to tell ya the truth.
Heck yeah man, I'm getting closer to open water fishing by the day 🤘 longtime supporter from NY
You gave me an idea. Drop baits where the fish are and back off to the bank. Extra work but more stable in these winds.
Definitely need the ol' can-do attitude to start the day lol..
Hey Spencer that was a sure fire great video. Totally was crazy with all the dead bait fish, and you still was able to catch nice cats .Cool right..
Stink bait fish works good for me if I can keep it on the hook!! Like the way u try different baits to get on the fish 😊
Spencer thanks for your time. Where is your side scan transducer mounted on your boat?
Looks like a cold enjoyable day of fishing
It was definitely was. Thanks for watching man!
@@RiverCertified I always watch lol. Hope to be out this summer .

Go Cubbies is right! I actually have a Harry Carey tattoo
Go back, watch this again and take a drink for every time Spencer mentions the ice 😅
🤣🤣🤣
Did you change up you rod and reels?? Awesome video keep them coming!!
I would love to see a video on all your gear and reasons for each brand/product
I definitely need to work it into a video sometime.
That's almost like ice get you some of that
Shad Soup Whirlpool is a great band name
what would you compare a shad to? never heard of it until I started watching American fisherman channels
I know that bait shop, I stop in on my "Dodge" weekends..
We appreciate you putting out the great videos. We’re you up on Saylorville?
Great video!
Thanks!
I am curious Spencer, why do you choose your rods. I can understand spinning and baitcaster.. but you have big ones and the low profile baitcasters..
Good stuff Bro👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Appreciate it man!
Love to see you hook up with Andrew Flair and do a catch cook clean with racoon, dove ,duck or crow! 😂😂😂😂

Ha!! Just kidding it’s all in the description! Thanks!
On your side scan there is a line on the left side of the boat I have the same thing on mine... you know what causes that?
Shad kill was intense
Hello sir, what rod and reel are you using
What kind of rods do you use ?
Like I know the channel cats aren't all the same color but 2 cats caught in the same area that are totally different in color is pretty cool if you ask me lol
Fishing a bearing sea.!...that was pretty creative productive goofing...
What kind of baitcasters you use I like the fact that they have a clicker
What do you use on your audio to cut out wind noise ? I run to pros and the wind noise can be so annoying at times . Thanks and great videos 👍🏼
Great day Spencer! Just one thing has me perplexed; what the fuck is "lights out" 🎣 fishing? We don't say that in England... 😃. 👍🤓
This dude really loves catfishing.
You would definitely be correct
how much do suckers go for a dozen? i didnt know they sold em
Hey I gota ask why have you stoped using the whiskey seeker rods ?
Gar is a bait species? Lol
I do gently release with every fish unless I have to toss.
Well shit we been chasing the dream forever!
Really appreciate the work you put in to put out quality content. Great work as always. Are those GX2 rods?
I appreciate the kind words. Yessir, they are.
Good session man. We’re all those shad victims off the cold or another reason?
They died from the cold I believe. Happens every spring and the cats enjoy it haha
Hey spencer, I’m just getting my RUclips started . I was wondering what’s a good app to edit videos?
I use Movavi. It's pretty decent and user friendly.
Nobody wants to be the sad sucker and no fish wants to eat the sad sucker.
You're pretty much you're sophisticated graphite rod
What are the specs on your boat?
