My father, Jack Reid, is quoted in the Goerner book you show in your video. He was impressed by Goerner's muscularity compared to other heavyweights from that era. Goerner's training routine has a strong application . . . even for today.

    • @lawdog369

what was the method of his training routine that can apply today?

    • @bradreid6057
      @bradreid6057 Год назад +9

@@lawdog369 Goerner used a simple system where he had dumbbells on a rack and he started at one end (the light side), kept the reps low . . . and worked up to the far end (heavy) for each of his exercises. He also had a series of fixed barbells and used them for barbell exercises the same way. Since he was often a "stage performer," he got lots of work at near maxes. More recently, big Jim Williams and several others did this "near max" frequent workout method with great results.

Good video. Thanks! However, his training method still seems elusive based on this. According to the book, he trained five times per week when he was young and did the kettlebell chain frequently. Otherwise, using heavy lifts with dumbbells and barbells is still non-specific. I wonder if he hid the details to prevent others from becoming like him or if Mueller didn’t ask enough specific question.

  • @Cr4shOverride

3:50 maybe it wasnt that heavy as it seems to be at first.
most of the car is not being lifted. only the front part.
a good way to do that would be standing already in that straight wooden structure lifted position and from there letting slowly the car drive onto the platform.
so he would not have to really lift the car itself up. only the platform at start. so the real lifting work. was neglegible.
in a full errect position there is no lifting power necessary to execute. so you need isometric power to withstand the weight. mostly how much your spine and leg muscles can hold for a while.
    seems therefore realistic to me.
this is on an advantage cause the human body can put much more weight onto such a position than he would be able to lift up first.
he seems also having done the same principle with the lot of people sitting on the bench he pushes away with his legs and feet at 3:35
will also work best when you place people after someone did the bench push. so all the time his legs were already in full extended position anyways.
you can even go a bit farther and cancel out the lifting part completely by having assitant guys placing the car platform onto him and also did the same with the bench for him. you prep everything so the only thing he now has to todo is being able to hold out long enough. otherwise he fails.
i cannot explain how it should be possible otherwise to reduce the strain as much as possible. what is also an important part of the show we can assume. the lesser strain on the body of the strongman the better for him able to do it without injuring himself. so i bet they took this a lot into consideration as well and did not just throw around the weights without thinking too.
still strong but with such trickery also explainable how someone being completely natural was able to pull that off! but again: still impressive footage :)

Goerners world record in one-hand-deadlift is over a 100 years old now, from the year 1921. A whopping 330kg.
He was famous for the massive size of his hands and his grip strength. But the wedding ring he inherited from his late father was so large, Goerner used to wear it on his thumb.
    Talk about genetics...

the right eye happend because he was living in the hero thinking worlds towards northern mythology and what paganism has to offer. his own quoted expressions towards his superstrength also shows this clearly.
Odin did happen to him basically. (as we know Odin has one blind eye and so Hermann paid the price this did cost him).
before that he was living as one of odins strong legion heros, similar like odins son thor.
we can say he improved from a lower position into becoming the King himself
as marvel shows this quite well in the latest movies and series and comics.
    Odin is King of Asgardians.
from this perspective he did really just become stronger furtheron.
he wasnt a christ nor catholic in that sense and can be declared a pagan mindset living person.
therefore its just a logical outcome he developed in his own life in exactly that way.
i mean what man when younger and in development for life do not want to later live the life of a king?
such things are also important to watch when we look at the lives of such people that once lived in the past.
RIP Hermann and thx for inspiring the world in the way you did *bowstothebronzeageking*

Unfortunately I think the advent of gear really did make lifters feel as if there is some kind of limit on natural growth. Obviously gains slow down over time, but that does not mean you cannot continue to grow. We assume that in order to reach such sizes one must use drugs, which is inaccurate. Well maybe accurate if you live on rice and chicken, get no sleep due to rampant stimulant addictions, and expect to get there in 2 years. But totally possible if one works for it
