Lovely video. Reminded me of my late father in the 60s. As a young boy of about 10 years old I was interested in taking up sea fishing. Dad always took an interest in what I done but was not a fisherman by any means. I started by using a hand line off the local pier. I asked dad if could have 2 bob to by a score of lugworm from the local tackle shop. Somewhat shocked at the request he refused and said we’re go and dig them. Down we went to pegwell bay and dug for 3 hours for about thirty scrawny worms. Dads back was killing him. A couple of days later I said dad can we go bait digging? His reply was here’s two bob!! True story. Best wishes Dave broadstairs 😂

I Remember the days of using a spade was hard work. The bait pump has made it a lot easier now

I’m just wondering if it is worthwhile attempting a further 2nd or ever 3rd pump of the same hole? Here in Australia we pump what we call pink nippers and sometimes you don’t get paydirt until the 3rd or 4th pump of the same hole. Edit - it all depends on how deep the nippers are sitting in their holes at that time or tide.

Hi @rachels209 Thank for a great post it is always fascinating how people around the world collect bait. In the UK the lugworm lives in a burrow about 18" deep and as the tide goes out they come closer to the surface if i am lucky i get most on the 1st pump but some times its needs a 2nd pump winter time is hard work locating them but come the spring there are 1'000s i hope this helps thanks again for a detailed post happy pumping
