This version of the song made me cry. I identify as bisexual and well my mom is one of the people who just can't seem to accept it. She tells me how Im sinning by "My choice to act upon my desires". or that God didnt make me this way but free will did. She tells me how being gay is about the same as her "falling in love with a married man and having sex with him." I just can't seem to find the words to actually express these feelings by writing a song anymore but finally I've found inspiration, and hope by you guys. She was laughing about it and I was laughing to, but inside I was so hurt I wanted to cry, I don't understand what is so wrong with liking the opposite gender? Why is it bad? What if we didn't have a gender and just lived as humans, no label to tell us who we are. Wouldn't that be nice.
The whole pretense of this song is assuming that all 'Christians' or "Right winged Conservatives" have the same views and reactions when it comes to homosexuality. That's not the case and I'm getting tired of being misrepresented. I agree that there are many people who claim those affiliations that hate and bully and whatever else, and that is completely wrong. Homosexuality is wrong according to the Bible (which you don't have to agree with, and that's fine) and I believe the Bible, but that absolutely doesn't mean we hate them/you. I'm not going to condone that lifestyle, but I'm not going to hate them for being that way. Being gay is no more or less a sin than lying or stealing or anything that I've ever done. But just because we're called to love doesn't mean we should shut up...it just means love everyone and show them that real Christians don't hate.
