  • John Thomas, a labourer's son from Wales, established his own photographic business, The Cambrian Gallery, in 1867, taking photographs of Welsh landscapes and people. His work was so well-received that over 3,000 of his negatives were bought by Owen Morgan Edwards to illustrate the magazine Cymru, showcasing Thomas' complete collection of views of Welsh historic sites. Edwards expressed his joy in receiving help from Thomas, praising his rich gallery and the warm welcome to use his collection.
