  • "This Marriage" by M. Simbolon
I composed this choral piece as a tribute to my lovely wife, to be performed on our wedding day last June. The lyrics are taken from the poem of Jalaluddin Rumi, a legendary poet from the Arabic-speaking world.
I have to admit that I had envied the great Eric Whitacre for his composition of this same poem. I adore his work SO much (and have sung it many times on stage) that I wanted to do it too, by making my own composition. I hope this finds him well! Thank you Eric!
I thank God for my wife, Tania, without whom this composition would lose all meaning. I thank God for my best friend, Kristian the conductor, without whom this composition would not be heard with such sensitivity. I thank God for my friends who sang it whole-heartedly and for all the settings (the chapel, the acoustics, etc) that have enhanced the beauty of this work.
Finally, I thank God for all the love he has put in my heart. I hope I can share it to all of you through this recording.
