    Brian seems mindful in his interventions, which is nice. I also get vibes that his marriage to Manuela is founded on partnership and friendship. I see it in the way they interact, which is a better approach as opposed to expectations around holding just a title of wife and husband. Doesn't mean they dont have problems, seems they are comfortable being vulnerable around eachother. Most men in Ug mistake being vulnerable to being weak. They are OK being vulnerable everywhere else but at home, which is why they dont feel taken care of by their spouses. I know women we are not innocent in all this but men do set trends on how they get treated at home.

    I actually normally enjoy the men on this show but this one has grated my soul cos patriarchy is all over this episode. The entitlement is very very wildddddd. I just have one question for these men, if ur doing what ur providing as u say u are why are ur women still working ? They should be ladies of leisure retired off and enjoying life. Men expect women to work just as hard as them then come home and pamper the men ??? Not a single conversation was had about collaborative working in relations. I hateeeee it here sooo much.

      Noreen honey. I do agree that some remarks were giving - patriarchy. I also think that there was so much to learn. We live in a culture where men dont speak up. When they do, we shun them for being medieval and regressive. I thought they were just being honest. So personally, I shut out the regressive parts and listened to the key messages. Otherwise, if you feel too triggered by any content, it just means the conversation isn't for you...and that's okay. P

    I love bumplove and was excited for the men take over but I couldn’t get myself to watch till the end. There was a lack of accountability for the most part. There was visible evidence of a lack of communication but very high expectations of women in marriage. I personally lost it when the “ men being friends with their wives and women forgetting their place “ statement was made. It felt as though women are more like servants and men are some where in a high place that women shouldn’t have access to. I understand men rarely speak up and we don’t want criticize what was said but this also feels like we gaslighting each other into not expressing how it felt listening to this conversation. I think expressing ourselves should start a conversation of self examination. Now there could have been better points that I missed because I couldn’t finish the show. I really hope there was. Otherwise, this shows our men need to be more intentional with working on their self awareness, communication and understanding when it’s healthy to feed the ego and when to not. Thanks!

      There’s lack of accountability and justification of abuse from some of these men (and all those they are representing here). This constant reference to “…as a man, I should … because I’m a man” and “... women should do a, b, c, …z because they are women …” etc is very problematic. Many women cannot stand toxic masculine behavior anymore (and if they are doing so, they are tolerating you), and honestly women shouldn’t carry that burden. Men should positively contribute to changing this narrative concerning gendered roles and practice. Women should start unlearning tolerating some things that no longer serve them. Traditional gender roles are a thing of the past and that’s just the truth. Let’s make the world better by creating better systems that serve the current societal needs. Toxic masculinity behavior is alive and well in this conversation, unfortunately.

  • @anonnona6433
    @anonnona6433 Год назад +37

    Mwine still upholds the traditional gender roles 😂. It's not just a woman's responsibility to keep the fire burning. Are you providing her emotional needs. Most men think it's all about the money and the woman should be the nurturer to everyone else in the home, displinarian, do the homework, work outside the home, etc. All these things take an emotional toll on the woman making sex the last thing on her mind. I think you should treat your spouse as a friend not a servant. Why not grab that juice from the fridge? Is it such a herculean task? Imagine if your able bodied wife asked you to remove her shoes every single day. Would you do it? Culture should evolve. Many of the so called gender roles are just skills and responsibilities that should be done by all people. 🤷🏽‍♀️

    Never commented on anything ever but couldn't resist.
    This conversation can run you up a wall with the patriarchal attitudes, excuses,and sense of entitlement, but the fact is we need to celebrate the fact that men can finally share their honest(even when unpleasant) thoughts and feelings. That's the beginning of dialogue, which will hopefully bring about mutual understanding.

    • @evamm2214
      @evamm2214 Год назад +3

      I feel you on this!! I was so surprised that these so-called ‘modern’ men still cling to old patriarchal norms and view the advancement of their wives and maybe their mothers as the norm in Uganda. The upper-middle class woman has much more access to a great education, and a great career. She can easily afford househelp which allows her to advance in her chosen career. This is not the case for majority of the Ugandan woman. I never heard any of them sympathize with the woman in rural Uganda who needs an ally to improve on her state. Acknowledge your position of privilege when everyone around you has an easier life than the majority.
      The men were too sympathetic to men who get ‘trapped’ by women. Men can provide for a family in many ways other than financially, if that’s not possible. He can protect his home, offer direction, discipline and nurture his children even when he is not employed. It was refreshing hearing their honest perspectives though.
      Mothers of boys, do better for the next generation, please 😅

      I think negative Patriarchy is not good, unproductive and not needed. Same as negative matriarchy. But Patriarchy also has a positive side. Women always ask me to be leaders when it comes to provision, protection and etc. That's also part of Patriarchy. The challenge is also notice is that Women want men to be who women want them to be which is unrealistic.

    If there's anything this episode has taught me, it's that women and men are very different. I have always known this fact, but this episode has confirmed it so firmly. And whereas some of the opinions expressed were honestly hard to swallow, I am glad men are opening up and as women, we need to listen with open minds. One thing surely stood out for me, the roles of husbands and wives in the bible need to be honored for marriages to work. The more we fight them, the worse it gets. If the man pays the bills and provides and protects, what's hard about giving him juice when he gets home and understanding what mood he's in so as to know when to pick a fight and when not to. Whereas we can wear the pants at work and be boss babes, let's leave those pants at work and not carry them home.

They will not want to go to therapy, they too have childhood trauma that is not dealt with etc. They always refer to the woman of those days, but guess what, she was just as stressed but hid it well from her children. If you look at many photos, you will see a sadness in their eyes. Secondly, many gave very harsh punishments to their children. Part of that was the marital stress they were bottling up 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

    When I was dealing with postpartum depression, my mother in law could tell I was not okay. She talked to my husband and asked him to find me help. I am grateful to her because I would have gotten worse had I not been treated.
    Like Ben said, my husband was clueless. He talked to my ob gyn who helped find us the right doctor. Honestly as mothers, it’s not easy to notice you’re suffering from PPD. So you can’t just wakeup and tell someone you’re dealing with depression. And even after you’re diagnosed with PPD, it’s hard to accept help initially.
    In this age of information at your fingertips(Internet, books etc), men should research some of these things or better still always join your wives for all their antenatal visits, know their doctors, ask questions etc
