Thanks for mentioning the Autofocus noise. I recently got a used EF 24-70 II and didn't like that noise it makes when focusing....yours is making the same noise.
i'm glad to know that the RF is near silent. I think the sigma 24-70 might also be silent
Thanks for the info really helpful! Looking at my options rn for my r5
I was on the way to the store to buy the RF 24-70 for my new R5C assuming that RF will be shorter and lighter thus less front heavy and you saved me $2400 just now. Thanks, amazing comparison video of the lenses.
was tempted to "upgrade" from ef to rf, i think ill just stay on the EF and consider another lens to my lineup like a 70-200 ef until the prices drop
The EF auto focus sound has always driven me nuts, it basically makes any footage with an on-camera shotgun useless, because it's so audible. Hearing how quiet the RF is, makes this a serious contender for the RF version since I shoot a lot of video. Now do I want the 28-70 or the 24-70 (my favorite lens I own).
28-70 is not quiet lol. I own it and have opted for manual focus when shooting video
perfectly right so why get RF lenses whiles EF will do all. Thanks for the info.
Will the ef autofocus sound be noticeable if you have a shotgun or stereo mic mounted on top?
Not as much as the on camera mics, but yes, you might hear the autofocus noise if you're capturing ambient audio.
@@VideoGizmology I shoot docs with a Rode NTG3 mounted a few inches above my 24-70EF Mark 2 and the autofocus noise isn't really noticeable .... so just keep in mind that a lot of it has to do with a) how close the mic is mounted to the lens, and a few inches matter and b) the actual microphone pickup pattern as all mics don't pickup sounds in all directions the exact same basically.
Everyone's situation is different though ... and sound mixing / design is usually an option.
If you get the filter converter u save HUGE money and now its only $99 dollars so you really only need the filter and the R camera and you can still use your older lens
Great video brother definitely usable information, it is exactly what I was looking for and also yes there is a different in a few things but I’d would be surprised if there wasn’t, but like you said for the most part you can definitely be ok with the older version for a ordinary shooter, professional videographer might want to invest that extra bucks.
great video. Thank you! Any idea how the IBIS works with the NON-IS 24-70 2.8 USM II, hand-held, in low light (eg; a wedding event).
in my opinion, using the IBIS on the R5 with the EF 24-70mm and no lens stabilization is the same as using a lens with stabilization, but no IBIS. So the IBIS is very similar to using a lens with IS. When you combine IBIS with a lens that has IS, that is the best of both worlds.
@video gizmology,
I have the same setup for different cameras as you do, Pana, Sony, Canon.
I also have the EF to RF from Metabones speedbooster. You get a crop of 1.136 (= 1.6 x 0.71) but then you get a stop of light. The 24-70/2.8 becomes ~27-80/2.0. With March 2021 firmware update 1.4 onwards, they added R5, C70, and Red Komodo to the compatibility camera list.
I’ll get the RF lenses when the prices go down or there will be more 3rd party lenses available for RF mounts.
so the ef 24-70 at 35mm 2.8 is not as good as rf 35mm at 1.8 and 2.0? Awesome video! Thanks!
It's subjective, but my opinion is that the RF35mm is better than the 24-70mm at 35mm.
RF has IS on the 24-70 good upgrade for video.
Can totally hear the focus adjustments being picked up by the mic.
What about give way .ef lens
Thanks in advance
