Amazing. DJ Q-Bert is an icon of the DJ industry and a real live saint. He actually has a true passion for his art and wants to help this game progress by helping amateur DJs. Even though he crushes these kids he's still so humble. Absolute Greatness.
Qbert is so humble. He could of gone completely off.... you could tell that he held back on a lot of frames! Even when he wasn't trying to his fullest, his scratches were still out of this world..... best dj ever to live
The differences between his youth and now...of course the ultimate mastering of the technique...but before you weren't surounded by an army of cellphones while you were performing :D This Jam was sick and big applause to all others musicians that have participated ! you were great for most of you ! keep developping your styles !! Hugs & Greetings from Belgium :*
i like this video. it's not really a battle, just a fun session. i like how ppl got out of their comfort zones, wether they were kind of nervous or not. you never know what you can do until you try.
Take 7 DJ's put 'em in a line, add 7 more DJ's who think they'll be fine, It'll take 7 more before Q says "It's mine", Now that's 21 DJ's ate up at the same time...
At a much later age I go into scratching and beat cuts and fades but have always looked up to sir DJ Q-bert hes been a impression in my preforming such a master I'd love to meet him maybe even throw down so Bert if you read this it's an open invitation to battle me A.K.A. Mix Master Micro Dot & my son DJ. Puff "N" Stuff
I'm here from the future. While Q-Bert looks like a robot in this video, y'all hadn't discovered alien shapeshifting technology in 2015. He's cloning himself into the blockchain now. It's some sort of a spacecraft from another galaxy.
I've said it before and it needs to be said again. The Coltrane of Turntablism went to Russia. Even though he battled a lot of experienced cutters. I think only a few understood what kind of God level he is on. Just like listening to intricate Jazz music, Q-bert has went beyond what is comprehensible regarding rhythm and phrasing. Someone could say that it's sometimes just sounds like fast gibberish. But that's what you also would say when you listen to John Coltranes soloing if you can't keep up, or if it gets to hard for you. Q-bert mixes fluently between the more easy listening "show-off" and the extreme like the true musician he is. It takes time just learning to listen to Jazz, The same thing goes here so encourage you to put the youtube speed down to 0.75. This way you can easier hear not only how insanely sharp his cuts are, but also the way he paints with his scratching like someone who can truly master his instrument.
That's a really good description of Q, I watch his lives regularly and he is a master of deliberately going off beat and using odd numbers in his patterns. If you have the ear ear to understand what's going on it's mind bending but to some it sounds wrong. He's still easily one of, if not on par for the best freestyle scratcher on the planet.
Big Respect... para Russian, tienen buen style y buena vestimenta... reales freestyle, Scratching Dj's... beat's maldito empieza al minuto 10:03... is dope... saludos desde Lima'Perú causas.
Been cuttin' on Vestax for over 13yearz,now using Rodec's ScratchBox and loving it bigtime!!!used a Traktor 2 timez and gotta tell ya ...if I had the cash,I would get me 1 for sure SICK MIXER!!!!:)
I'm sorry, but Qbert is a full-blown genius and this jazz is jazz. If some think that this is a "competition" between Qbert and the others then so be it. The attitude of competition, of course, is to be expected of the performers themselves. This is part of their performance. There is always an element of live stage performance integrated into a live DJ performance. This is why videos of turntablism are significantly higher fidelity than audio alone. You really should see the DJ while you listen to the mix. Not that the audio cannot or should not be listened to alone. Far from it. But the DJ, unlike, say, the guitarist or the violinist, is defined by his stage performance and his stage presence in an indispensable way. His instrument (the turntable) includes himself, necessitates himself, primarily by encompassing human history-as-media. This theatrical element derives from the stage-performance nature of the hip-hop MC, whose stage presence is his very defining talent. The listener, on the other hand, is but a spectator. He is the audience. He has no reason to root for either side; he only enjoys watching the competition. As to the audience of the Greek tragedies, so too the audience of the DJ battle: Who wins the battle seems to be a matter of divinely determined fate. To the listener, the DJ battle is not a game - it is musical theater. That it is a game to the performers serves only to put the moral on the parable. It is rather the contents of the parable that amuse the listener. He is only a spectator - he competes against no one - he is not in the game. He only listens, and gives a thumbs up or thumbs down. To Qbert, we give a thumbs up.
seen this 50 times......just nice scratching and that table ,i like a lot, and don't forget that a lot of hifi gear and scratchers live in russia and make good gear........
yeah I found out yesterday... the sad part about it is that particular sample w/o the music is next to impossible to find :0( much like the first beat used in the scratch session... and i have all the dirtstyle vinyls
I wonder if they feel honored to even be in this video, because they should! Q-bert is such a humble cat, cutting up with the students or whatever they are.. that's awesome.. Q still inspiring the younger generation to be beast.
Ariel Lantaya he's definaely in the top 5 world wide. not sure if he's number "1" BUT HE'S SURELY ONE OF THE WORLDS TOP FIVE. you have DEE JAY Jazzy Jeff who put's it down real tough. as well as Kid Capri who lays down scratchin like he darn near invinted it.. then theres also Eric-B from Eric-B and Rakim. then you also got a few others out there who are amazing. but yeah i do agree that Q-bert is dope with a capital "D" and is in the best 5 in the world at this amazing art-form known as scratching heck yeah...
Qbert is my IDOL. im a gay battle DJ and i just wanted to say thanks for everything that you have done with turntablism. you've inspired me to get better. plan on attending your scratch U pretty soon. peace
"Your graduation from the Q-Bert Skratch University will be marked by one final thrashing from the man himself, one from which, you will likely never recover."
Q dropped his skill level to beginner for this one. Props to him for not killing the opposing crew and keeping it basic according to their level. My favorite dj of all time
Amazing. DJ Q-Bert is an icon of the DJ industry and a real live saint. He actually has a true passion for his art and wants to help this game progress by helping amateur DJs. Even though he crushes these kids he's still so humble. Absolute Greatness.
Talented kids. It's great to see people like Q teaching and inspiring the next generation of DJ's.
Much respect to all who performed. It took a lot of practice for all of them, I am certain. Qbert is amazing!!
This was not a battle, this was Qbert showing them what the next level looks like
QBert is probably the best scratcher of all time...just to be there was probably a thrill
Qbert is so humble. He could of gone completely off.... you could tell that he held back on a lot of frames! Even when he wasn't trying to his fullest, his scratches were still out of this world..... best dj ever to live
It doesn't make sense for him to hold back. They flew him out to Russia to show out. This was a wack boring performance from qbert.
This was the video that got me really hyped to get into turntableism when I was about 14 years old. Thank you DJ QBert!
At 9:05 is the most impressive thing I ever seen a DJ do. Sounds so fucking good. QBert have a new fan.
+Balubish Tech It's "just" his sample set. Also loved his idea btw
+Zé Pimpolho (Banks) yeah i know but was the best part of this video.
+Balubish Tech woww! thats impressive haha "Guess Who?!"
Off Centre DJ School Dj Qbert?
+Balubish Tech And what about this one 13:07 ? 10 years of scratching and i never saw that, Q-bert is just next level.
The differences between his youth and now...of course the ultimate mastering of the technique...but before you weren't surounded by an army of cellphones while you were performing :D
This Jam was sick and big applause to all others musicians that have participated ! you were great for most of you ! keep developping your styles !!

It's like they're having a conversation, and a fascinating one at that!
+PercivalFromWales - They are! Some are even challenging him in that way. Thats Hip Hop for ya
That's how q-Bert describes it himself, DJs having a conversation.
The world needs more female djs. good job 1st up.
This video is a good reason you don't see QBert at the DMC's... there would be no competition.
At a much later age I go into scratching and beat cuts and fades but have always looked up to sir DJ Q-bert hes been a impression in my preforming such a master I'd love to meet him maybe even throw down so Bert if you read this it's an open invitation to battle me A.K.A. Well f*ckin' said Sir! Well said.
One of the crazy things is that he could already cut like this circa 2001, and at that time he was so far ahead of the pack that it was ridiculous.
Q bert is the baddest. Period
That's a really good description of Q, I watch his lives regularly and he is a master of deliberately going off beat and using odd numbers in his patterns.
