That I actually can agree on. With the wait weight of an adult raccoon, it should have been much more sturdy than a shoe box. Although to be fair, you're likely too much for a resident to just have a wildlife approved box readily available as I'm sure most even in Toronto don't have em.
The people commenting are even dumber than the mom appeared. This woman put them in a box near the area they were found with a hole in it so their mom could gain access to them as they were kept together and safe from predators like birds and cats. A cat still could've easily gained access to them so she put them on the safety of her deck where she could keep an eye on them. No telling how long mom was going to take to return because she could've been run over by a car for all this lady knew. She did EXACTLY what she was supposed to do. Heavier box would've been best but she used what she had.
You probably should have waited till they were old enough to follow mom and blocked access to you chimney. You put this mother in a very stressful situation
WE HAVE A MOTHER RACCOON THAT HAS LIVED UNDER OUR HOUSE FOR 12 YEARS SHE SHE HAS HER BABIE S THEY GROW UP AND LEAVE AND SHE STAYS WITH US.. I FEED THEM EVERY NIGHT WITH FOOD AND WATER AND THEY ALL COME OUT ABOUT 11.00 PM THEY EAT WITH OUR CATS ALSO. BY THEMSELVES AT THE END OF THE PORCH... AND WE TALK TO THEM AND THEY JUST STAND STRAIGHT UP AND LOOK AT US AND TALK BACK SOMETIMES.. SO CUTE. BUT THEY NEVER BOTHER ANYONE. OR OUR CATS AT ALL..
You should be ashamed of yourselves putting the bbiesin a box like that and forcing her to come all the way down there each time to save them, just to make a video.
You should have waited till the babies were older... We have a racoon mama & babies in the attic but we are waiting till the babies leave the nest to remove them. Your not supposed to move them that young the mother could abandon them & the babies could die 😔 she doesn't even have a new home to bring them too & at that age they breastfeed constantly. That's why she didn't come back for the runt, she knew she had to find a new home and leaving the one gave the other 2 a better chance. This video was horrible for me to watch, those poor babies
Miss Eddie Blue , yes, same here.. we had a family of raccoons living the bottom of our house. we waited for a month or so., when babies were old enough to followed their mommy out. as soon as all five left. we sealed the hole.
I agree with what you send but unfortunately raccoons can cause a lot of damage and pose some serious health hazards to humans if they reside somewhere in the house
Why the heck are the babies in that box! What kind of monstrous personalities do you guys have! Animals are not in this world for your cheap thrills and fun.
This is what you're supposed to do, smh. You put them in a box in the area they were found in with a hole in it so mama can gain access. It keeps them together, safe from predators and mama can hear them. She put them on her deck so she could keep a close eye on them until mama returned because a cat can still reach them but birds cannot. They must have been found right outside that deck fence.
You shoulda left them alone. They're not destructive in their nest after it's already been made, and this mother won't have had a backup nest for them, that's why she's so panicked. Chances are the babies she went off with died of exposure somewhere.
Are you aware that raccoons are often rabid? They will bite you if they get a chance. If you have kids or pets, they could be bitten by an angry mom. Unlike our pets, humans don't get periodic rabies vaccines. If your child is bitten, they'll have to endure a series of shots in their stomach, or rabies, which is not cute. They can cause extensive property damage costing thousands of dollars to your home. These folks were extremely kind and patient. Your condescending comment is ridiculous, along with many others here. SMDH.
That was painful to watch. Your guys should have let them be. They were too little to move. Or call a damn professional. Now they probably died. So sad.
You made it as hard as you could for the mother. Next time put them in a tub on the grass but then you probably wouldn't have been able to video it out your door. The humane society is the wrong place to have taken the baby, should have found a wildlife rescue. These are just my opinion.
Yep, their mom was going to come to the wildlife rescue to pick up her babies, smh. 😒 AND they'd have been easy pickings for birds and cats in a tub in the yard. THINK!!!! She did exactly what she was supposed to do. A heavier box would have been better but she used what she had. A cat still could've gained access so she put them where she could keep an eye on them until their mom came. She probably found them just outside her deck fence.
@@jorgemartinez18 He'd probably do nothing, then freak out when he got bills for repair of property damage to his home, if he has one. And if he has kids? Would they have to have the series of rabies shots in their stomachs after being bitten by one of these cute animals.
And here's why I'm not a dumbfuck whisperer right here. To think of robbing a mother of a reunion with her children, you'd literally have to be dumb af to pull that off.
You do not take matters into your own hands. That's what they have game wardens and others for. These babies could have died in the process of momma freaking out and dropping them. Even someone who is licensed to do this job will put a wooden box very close to the spot they were taken out of. That way there is no stress. And with you standing there she seen you. That made her even more frantic as she you seen she was trying to carry two at a time. Next time if you want them removed, call a professional. DO NOT take matters into your own hands or you may cause a mother to abandon or kill the babies. Let a professional handle it.
It's their property, so ultimately it's their call. Raccoons may be cute, but they're incredibly destructive and can cause thousands of dollars worth of property damage in a very short amount of time. They also may carry diseases and fleas. These babies were put in a box and the mother came to retrieve them. In a box with a smaller opening, the babies are much more likely to keep themselves warm and avoid death by exposure. That's a lot more mercy than most people would have. A raccoon family decided to make my big old oak tree into its home, inadvertently killing a large section of the tree and throwing feces all over the patio furniture every day. Unfortunately, it was impossible to gain her trust and she became territorial and aggressive, rendering the entire patio completely unusable. After all other options of removal had been exhausted, ultimately had to resort to busting the rifle out. Problem solved.
@@fritzjagr5121 You really had a challenge there and went above and beyond trying to avoid the end result. They are cute until the damage they've caused is discovered and repair estimates are known. And rabies isn't cute at all. A child or even adult bitten by an angry mom enduring shots that may or may not be required if it wasn't possible to test her for rabies, is absolutely no fun at all.
For all of you do gooders/feel gooders, there was a time that existed until maybe the last 50 years that mama raccoon would have become a raccoon hat and the babies given to the children to raise and release later.
what if giant raccoons came and put your new born in a box for building a house on top of their home? It's monsterous; they wouldn't do that ..but You would. Consideration for All living beings. ..what a Concept
That is so sad, that poor momma raccoon got stressed out and the babies that she was able to take probably did die and the runt got left behind all because of people who thought that it would be a good idea to get rid of animals that are considered a nuisance and removed the babies from the nest, and to top it off sat there and video taped her frantic efforts to get her babies somewhere safe. All u had to do was leave them be, not feed here and when the babies where old enough they all would have moved on. It's sad that us as humans see the babies and mom and think aww that is so cute, let me interfere and capture that cute little moment in time, whoo hoo, hope ur proud of ur shining moment.

Do you realise that the raccoon babies belong to the raccoon? What would happen in the wild if there were no cardboard boxes? You think raccoons don't know what to do with their young? Do you think raccoons have developed a culture of idiotic sentimentality like humans have? No, that kind of nonsense is a result of overly decadent cultures. Why do people like you feel the need to humanise non-human animals? Do you think it's an exaltation? Because it's not, it's an insult. If humans were deprived of this perverse system that supports us, most of us would die. Humans are imbeciles. Raccoons don't need human assistance to survive, they are much more intelligent and resourceful than most human beings. The uploader did the right thing - if the mother returned, she returned exactly when she needed the kits.
No, the babies very likely died of exposure. The mother didn't make a nest in a BOX, she made it in their chimney, and they removed the babies and stuffed them in a box. Raccoons do not plan on having to move their babies at this age. All other good nesting spots in the area are highly likely to have been taken by other raccoons or other animals. These people really could have waited just another couple weeks and the mother would have found a new home by then and moved them herself.
Poor thing. I love raccoons, I'm raising an orphan now and she is my bundle of joy.
