As a 2019 CTS-V owner, I appreciate this comparison. I have similar opinions on the cars, especially the disappointment in the 8spd transmission. I think the V3 is far more aggressive and attractive looking than the CT5 though. It’s fun to drive and has a bit of a cult like appeal to some people. I’m glad to have grabbed the final V3 before the changeover.
@@jonas_konupek I am having a EU Spec V3 CTS-V Final Edition, tbh nothing wrong with the transmission, it drives beautifully. yet you may feel a bit of shifting delay when you floor it, obviously it drains some Nm into the torque converter compared to a DSG. For driving the alpine pass roads a switch to manual mode and pedal shifting is perfect and removes the lag. That said, you can also in automatic mode engage the manual pedal shifters for temporary means
I had a CT5V BW on order, but found my 2018 CTS-V first. I'm glad. Not only was the CTS-V significantly cheaper, I really feel it is a much better car, for me. The CTS-V is a GORGEOUS car from any angle, and I love the looks. To me, it represents the pinnacle of the "Art & Science" theme. The BW is nice, but its styling is more anonymous. I love the CTS-V's hood vent, and side vents. The wheel design is nicer, and I prefer the rear styling, particularly the blade tail lights. In terms of the interior, the little details in the CTS-V are pleasing (eg. the narrow suede border around the air bag, the beautiful leather trim on top of the dash, the metal surround around the climate control area). Mine has the Recaro seats, and the full carbon fibre package, both of which I love. The interior of the BW again, its nice, but I prefer my car. In terms of the criticism of the 8 speed and the suspension in this review, I have no complaints about my car. The transmission shifts smoothly, and the ride is comfortable or firm, depending on what setting you choose. And the display in the CTS-V is much more aesthetically pleasing, to boot. To me, the third gen CTS-V is an amazing, wonderful car, and I am so pleased I chose it.
I concur Bro! I have a 2018 cts-v as well with the same options you have. Mine is vector blue metallic. My 8 speed transmission in my 2016 Escalade proudly accepts that badge of trashy shifting! 🤣 The only complaint I have about my V is that I can't drive it to work on base because it is too low to clear the speed bumps. I have bolt on mods.. Magnuson supercharger with aux cooling expansion tank, American Racing exhaust, and meth injection. Dyno'd at 760 hp.. If a BW pulls up, he better be ready.. 😁 Enjoy your ride my guy! Hard work and determination got us a dream car. 🙏🏾🫡
Your V sounds like a monster! Mine is bone stock, and its totally fine for me. I have the 8 speed in my 2016 Yukon Denali, and it does from time to time shift roughly. I haven't gone so far as to look into the TSB on this matter, or even get the fluid and filter changed. It does it so infrequently, whenever I make a mental note to do something about it, I forget lol. The only thing I wish my V had, versus the BW, is the beautiful carbon fibre seat backs on the upgrade seats for MY 2022.@@bigmike7925

Was just at the Vancouver International Auto Show, and the Cadillac display included a 2014 CT5V BW. Initially when I saw it from a distance, I thought it was a CT4V BW (which was also on display, but at the opposite end of their area), because it looked so small to me. I then realized it was a 5. It was a very eye catching bright blue colour over the Sky Cool Grey interior and bronze wheels. Not at all the color combo I would have chosen, particularly the wheels. MSRP was $151K Can (or about $111K USD at today's exchange rate). Reinforced to me I made the right choice, particularly the considerable price increase over what I was quoted for a 2022 model. @@ericclement9181
I also love how people get in *gm* products and experience a new feature they’ve never seen or heard of before and the term they live to use to describe it is “weird” or “stupid”. Germans come out with some feature you’ve never seen or heard of and don’t even need, it’s referred to as groundbreaking and never before seen or heard of “innovative” even. The *safety alert* seat is genius because audible sounds may not always be heard when you’re revving a nearly 700 hp V8. Very informative school and you are beating on the school supplied vehicles. I still have not learned all the bells and whistles of my car. The CT5 BW used in the comparison had not yet reached its 500 mile break-in period to go from 4500 rpms to 7000. The seats do come with bolster hip/torso adjustments in the performance option. It’s like luxury sports sedans are the only segments y’all think matter because that’s where Germans lead in sales, for now. However the Cadillac CT6 outsold the BMW 7-series in 2018 before it was discontinued. Not sure how that’s struggling to be relevant. The magneride on CTS-V is just aged, thats why it feels rougher. Driving my 18 ZL1 all the time felt fine until I rode in newer ZL1 & it was night & day. I'm only at 43k miles on mine, but new suspension is still new lllol. The optional manual on the CT5 tilts the scale & lined up next the older V, it does date it a bit.
No it hasn't as Cadillac has upgraded them with every new model I have a 2015 V with the 2nd stage magna ride and a 2019 with the 3rd gen magna ride! The CT5-V comes with the 4th iteration of said design!
The only disadvantage for me when I went from the 05 CTSV to the 2018 CTSV was no manual, but I do like the look better than the black wing. The fastback look just doesn't appeal to me. Great review
I don't have a V. But when I do get one. It might have to be the 3rd gen CTS. I just like how it looks. Well I do have a plebian CTS. LOL. I think the inside of the CTS is better also.

Current owner of a 22 BW w/MT and previously owned an ‘18 CTSV. Both cars with Recaros. My take is this - the interior in the BW is a massive step up even though it may not look like it. The CUE system in the V was trash - the BW is good, not great. The piano black trim in the V was also trash. I like the buttons/layout in the BW. Camera access for parking much better in BW (I have carbon fiber packages). I miss the white RPM dial in the V though. The seats are the same for me. Comparing base seats to Recaros in the video isn’t fair. Base seats are super comfy but lack support, IMO. Looks wise - without the CF package, I like the V better. With CF, the BW looks better IMO. I do miss the hood vent in the V. For driving dynamics - both are stiff, even in tour suspension settings but Magnaride is magic. Exhaust note in BW is stronger in V mode than any mode on the V. Hard to compare the driving feel with diff transmissions, but the BW is the best car I’ve owned. I absolutely love the Tremec 6 speed. Feels fairly analog for a current car. For reference, 2nd best driving car I’ve had is a Giulia QV - also surprisingly analog feeling.
easy answer: install CT5's suspension into the CTS. The 2 things that break the CT5 for me is the interior and the price tag. EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE, not just the automotive industry, has milked the lockdown quarantine prices.
Oh Man, Dan! I been waiting for your to review the BW. But bring the V3 to compare against the BW makes things better. I would take both. I would take the CTS-V since it only comes with auto and the BW with a manual.
Great cars. Could not talk wifey into buying the CT5 V Blackwing. She said "too fast" Crazy right ? She settled on the 2022 V6 Twin turbo CT5 V Still a great car but its's not the Blackwing. Pretty fast but again not the Blackwing ! Good vid sir...
GM doesn't allow any other vehicle of theirs to be more HP than the Corvette. This is why it doesn't have its own higher performance engine and tranny package, or even use the flat plane power plant found on the new C8, but the C7 powerplant.
I think the ct4 looks better but the slightly bigger car ct5 is nice to. I guess it depends on the lease price. but have to get a sport model can’t afford the v. but still fine.
The new CT5V Blackwing is a practically a race car! But can drive it like a normal comfortable sedan. True sleeper an WILL an DID beat the SRT Hellcat on the 8th 3 races in a row
I need the CTS V in my life.. The Blackwing is special is special and unfortunately the dealers know this with their ridiculous markups. Also, i am a Caddy purist so you gotta have the vertical taillights.
I wonder if the suspension in the CTS-V you drove was working properly. I have a CTS-VSport which also has the magnetic suspension. When I first got it, it was very stiff and didn't noticeably adjust as you indicate. The problem was diagnosed by the dealer to a bad pin in the connector to the electronic differential. Once that was fixed, it has driven very nicely ever fixed.
What year is it. My wife has a 14 v sport and the suspension adjusts but is a bit firm in tour mode. I have an 18v and is sort in tour. I'll have to check the connectors on her car.
I’ll take the 2018 version used price wise you can definitely add upgraded parts later on the newer version it’s a beast but price wise it’s a whole lot more it’s a win win situation in witch everyone you choose 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
12@120? I ran 11.6@124 in my 17 cts v with a bad injector. Also ran a 1.7 60" on some crappy off brand tires. Whoever owned it before didn't take very good care of it and actually put flowmasters on a cts v
I've owned one and drove the CTS-V on a racetrack. It' handles with the best of them. Also, I would never get one without the Recaro seats. I miss not having it and am looking forward to getting another one. It's badass all the way.
Older CTS-V is a Bargain. Someone is selling a modified 2012 CTS-V Coupe making over 650 HP here in California for under $40K. Probably my next car but 4 doors :)
Lincoln is a Ford... comparing them to Cadillac is like comparing a Honda to a bmw. Also you said Struggling to keep themselves relevant? Reinvent themselves for a long time to a luxury sportcar that's sporty and desirable. Cadillac has been making V's for 20+ years. The Blackwing is faster than a M5 CS, Mercedes S63 AMG, Redeye and a GT500. Keep hating on Cadillac it's not gonna change those facts. 💯🎤💧
Now sure where he’s getting 3.7 to 60 for the BW. I see 3.4 for the 10 speed. Re the screens, I have both a 5 BW and 2017 CTS VSport. The screens are big upgrade in the BW - more data, clearer and faster.
Under 500 miles huh? You can change the seat vibrate to an audible sound in info settings. I believe you can turn that system all the way off too. I couldn’t believe how much nanny crap they shoved in these cars I turned about all of it off
I have a cts. V , and a 2024 blackwing on order. I feel like I am losing some features with the BW. No window shades, hood budge, and the car doesn't look as sporty.
Great review. My budget says CTS-V. But the Blackwing is the step forward. BTW. A question of curiosity. Can the 10sp auto from the Blackwing fit into the CTS-V?
Nice cars on paper but typical issue of them pricing themselves out of the market. MSRP higher than the Vette, let alone C63AMG C53 AMG and tipping C63 AMG GT range. Cadillac as a brand has been pushing the luxury market while still cheaping out on quality materials unlike European brands. Nice cars just over priced
The exhaust on the blackwing sounds so…manufactured. Same as the Escalade V. Crackles and pops appeal to teenagers and early 20 something’s, most of it sounds obnoxious imo. Older muscle sounds so much better. He hits most points right on the head, though. But as far as wanting Cadillac to do something different? What were they supposed to do, other than swap out the supercharger for turbos. Then you’d just have another twin turbo car just like everyone else. In that regard, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The blackwing is almost a as perfect a car that you can ask for, but the looks just don’t come off like an AMG or RS Audi.
I'm a bit biased as I'm in the market for a low mileage 2019 CTS -V. Yet I somewhat understand the swooning about the CT5-V BW. It drives well. But really? 28 additional horses- woohoo! Let’s talk about exterior design. The front end to the B-Pillar is a winner. Then it looks like a different set of designers worked aft of the B-Pillar. It goes downhill from there with wonky styling - that C-Pillar is still a mess and cheapens the look of this vehicle. Unlike the CTS-V which had presence, the CT5-V BW resembles a Chevy Cruze that worked out and got a nose job and some tweaks. It comes across as a cheapened recycle of the previous generation CTS-V. The GM cost cutting is evident as well with the removal of: 1) rear dual climate control zones - those cheap vents do not belong on a six-figure luxury performance sedan 2) rear heated seats - not an option 3) magnesium paddle shifters and more… It's a given that the driving dynamics of the Alpha platform are definitely on par with the best though. However whether comparing to an M3, M5 or E63 AMG S which all come with AWD that can be disengaged for RWD only, the BW isn't quicker - unless driven around Willow Springs - and will consistently be bringing up the rear save for perhaps tying with an M3.
Finally, a comparison between the CT5 BW and the CTSV....Thanks

I like both, but the Blackwing is hard to beat … solid all-around sedan.
Technically the Manual transmission is standard equipment in the blackwing since the auto costs more to throw in.
@vernonpaigejr.1517 Keep saving them coins, brother, and she's yours.

@vernonpaigejr.1517 Bruh.. You'll really love how it looks in your garage. Every time I go into my garage, it's like a kid opening a gift. Work hard, focus, & save. It'll be yours my guy! 🙏🏾🫡
@@bigmike7925 Thanks for those encouraging words
Digging your overall expression here. Keep it up. Ty.
For reference, 2nd best driving car I’ve had is a Giulia QV - also surprisingly analog feeling.
in order to rev the cts past 4k you have to move the shifter between D and N and you will be able to rev higher when showing off sound
My favorite till this day is the V2 coupe . BATMOBILE
easy answer: install CT5's suspension into the CTS. The 2 things that break the CT5 for me is the interior and the price tag.
EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE, not just the automotive industry, has milked the lockdown quarantine prices.
"except add 38 more horsepower ........." Failed basic math I see. Make that 28 more hp.
Your videos are excellent!
Oh Man, Dan! I been waiting for your to review the BW. But bring the V3 to compare against the BW makes things better. I would take both. I would take the CTS-V since it only comes with auto and the BW with a manual.
Or get the CTS-V and add a Corvette manual! It fits right in
@@raulsanchezjr4048 or get CTS-V V2 that has the better of both worlds.
I need this I’ve been having a hard time choosing
For the money I’d get the 2020 E63S AMG. The perfect saloon.
GM doesn't allow any other vehicle of theirs to be more HP than the Corvette. This is why it doesn't have its own higher performance engine and tranny package, or even use the flat plane power plant found on the new C8, but the C7 powerplant.
Definitely I'll take the black 👍👍👍
Dan!!!! Awesome Video!!! Btw, did you get the z06 C8 VETTER? - Karl
I like my 2010 CTS-V sedan! I have Recaro's no moonroof!
I was thinking about trading in my CTS-V3 for the CT5-V Blackwing but that mark-up was crazy😅
I like both of them.
Great review
Don't judge Magride 3.0 with 130k miles vs. brand new Magride 4.0. You've gotta replace those dampers every 60k miles, otherwise they are super harsh.
I need the CTS V in my life.. The Blackwing is special is special and unfortunately the dealers know this with their ridiculous markups. Also, i am a Caddy purist so you gotta have the vertical taillights.
While the CT5-V is a superior car and most desirable with the manual transmission, I prefer the look of the V3.
Always great!
👍
Cadillac said if more horsepower doesn't make it faster on the track then there not doing it.
They'll bury me in my 18 V, last car for me😊
I wonder if the suspension in the CTS-V you drove was working properly.
Really good video and I liked your pace. Solid review!
The trash a8 still holds the fastest whether n/a or boosted 1/4mile et and fastest trap over the a10 no matter the platform 🤷♂️
CT’s v looks amazing in black, Still think darth Vader would pic the v over the black wing
12@120? I ran 11.6@124 in my 17 cts v with a bad injector. Also ran a 1.7 60" on some crappy off brand tires. Whoever owned it before didn't take very good care of it and actually put flowmasters on a cts v
Id definitely pick the older V....looks more aggressive
I've owned one and drove the CTS-V on a racetrack. It' handles with the best of them. Also, I would never get one without the Recaro seats. I miss not having it and am looking forward to getting another one. It's badass all the way.
Older CTS-V is a Bargain. Someone is selling a modified 2012 CTS-V Coupe making over 650 HP here in California for under $40K. Probably my next car but 4 doors :)
I take the CTS easy!!
Would still take the cts-v....blackwing is nice though
Can ats v and ct4v be done or it's the same
Lincoln is a Ford... comparing them to Cadillac is like comparing a Honda to a bmw. 💯🎤💧
Is the 2017 CT’s v faster than the 2024 ct4 v black wing their both very similar and almost around the same price range but ones new and ones used ?
Now sure where he’s getting 3.7 to 60 for the BW. I see 3.4 for the 10 speed.
Re the screens, I have both a 5 BW and 2017 CTS VSport. The screens are big upgrade in the BW - more data, clearer and faster.
Under 500 miles huh? You can change the seat vibrate to an audible sound in info settings. I believe you can turn that system all the way off too. I couldn’t believe how much nanny crap they shoved in these cars I turned about all of it off
cts-v for sure
WHAT YEARS ARE YOU COMPARING HERE?
Great quality video as usual! But damn you talk too fast, especially when narrating.
I like that you talk fast. Just my speed
I have a cts. V , and a 2024 blackwing on order. I feel like I am losing some features with the BW. No window shades, hood budge, and the car doesn't look as sporty.
Young dude basically saying that ride sucks in a kind way 😂
Great review. My budget says CTS-V. But the Blackwing is the step forward. BTW. A question of curiosity. Can the 10sp auto from the Blackwing fit into the CTS-V?
Anything can work if you are creative enough
@@yamahaguy1732not even with any creativity! The 10spd bolts right up! So does the manual from the vette!!!
Cts v is still an overall better looking car.
Black wing with manual and I'm good
Ef your opinion. You obviously didn’t get informed on the CT5-Vs before it was released.
The blackwing is almost a as perfect a car that you can ask for, but the looks just don’t come off like an AMG or RS Audi.
...and an 'antiquated' , manual steering box (no rack and pinion, no power hydraulics , no electronics)
WOULD TIE YOUR ARMS IN KNOTS⁉️
What do you mean it's debatable...??

The GM cost cutting is evident as well with the removal of: 1) rear dual climate control zones - those cheap vents do not belong on a six-figure luxury performance sedan 2) rear heated seats - not an option 3) magnesium paddle shifters
and more…
It's a given that the driving dynamics of the Alpha platform are definitely on par with the best though. However whether comparing to an M3, M5 or E63 AMG S which all come with AWD that can be disengaged for RWD only, the BW isn't quicker - unless driven around Willow Springs - and will consistently be bringing up the rear save for perhaps tying with an M3.
Ct5 unfortunately for me, resembles a current Honda civic
Cadillac struggling to keep itself relevant? What?! Where did you get this information?
This video definitely felt biased towards the cts-v.
