PS2 was a gold-mine of weird experimental games. Great list, I've never heard of some of those games.
funny enough 98% of these are Japanese
Yeah you still had fun crazy games for PS2. For Xbox 360 I can think of a few as well like tge Beard games and Gunstringer
Yea it costs too much now for development so either you get them from indies or not at all now.
Whiplash was my Favorite game, I was never able to finish it cause U was to young and didnt understood some Things. But it was cool
@@SacharroseAll facts. I need to get my hands on that game again. I don't even remember what happened to my copy
What a creative, weird era, when devs could pitch crazy games.
Facts.
I can't tell you the amout of weird PS2 games I've played :) They also make great videos.
I miss it
Yeah but it made the way for some great creativity
Dog's Life...yes! That was an amazing game. I remember seeing it GameStop and was curious. I wasn't blown away by the graphics but the gameplay and humor grabbed my heart. Even today, Id say its a fun game to fart around in (Dog farts and dooky...I mean how can you not laugh at such childish stuff?)
Geez, that chasing rats level though
Whiplash is such a great game, one of my favourite PS2 games
Agreed, remember playing the demo on one of hte Jam Pack discs and I had to purchase the actual game. I loved it so much. I replayed recently and as bad as teh graphics were the game still cracks me up.
@@ultimatecarnage25 Man I used to play that demo too when I wasn't even going to school. And I just found out its name right now, 17 years later 😁
@@ultimatecarnage25 SAME!! I miss that game
The Bard's tale was pretty good. It had Tony Jay as the narrator, Cary Elwes as the Bard, singing goblins, and an ending where you tell the two groups to figure it out themselves and go to the pub instead
I've got that song stuck inside my brain:
♪♪ IT'S... NO GOOD TO BE YOU.. ♪♪
You forgot about Demolition Girl. It's like Mr. Mosquito, but you control some flying helicopters or robots that must analyze and track down a woman who suddenly became a giantess.
Glad that Gregorry horror show is getting the love it deserves!
it's already $150 used because of all these kinds of clickbait videos
I wonder if we can push for a nation-wide re-release.
Months, MONTHS I'd been dwelling on the name of the weird game where you have some demonic hand coming out of your back that I'd seen the Game Grumps play. Thank you for this, it'd been driving me mental.
I played so much Whiplash. Love that you used the music for this video. It brings back a lot of memories.
I have Mister Mosquito and that's such a weird and over-looked game. I of course know of Katamari Damacy, but I've never played it. I've also heard of Chulip thanks to Zion of Nintendo Life and I heard of Stretch Panic thanks to X-Play back in the day, but I had forgotten most of the details about it until hearing about it again now.
I own Stretch Panic, although here it is called "Freak Out". I expected to see another weird PS2 game I own on this list: Gitaroo Man.
I have Under The Skin, Katamari Damacy, and Mr Moskeeto. I really enjoy all three games. I also have Dog's Life but not played it yet.
Some of the other games on your list look great too.
OH MY GOD. Dr.Muto existed as just a faint memory in my brain that i couldn’t actually remember the name of. A childhood friend of mine had it and i played ONCE forever ago. Maybe i ought to look up a playthrough of it now that i know the name.
I got the mosquito game in a PS2 game magazine demo. Those were the good old days.
I've played ps2 for a good while in the mid 2010s. Because I kept seeing "Katamari Damacy" around the internet and such, I thought it was a game I had to have for a "definitive ps2 collection". But in reality, it didn't even reach a million copies sold and didn't make the "bestselling list", lol.
Which is crazy because We ❤ Katamari
The saddest part is that currently, the PS4 and especially the PS5 lack the diversity of games that the PS2 had.
These days, its all about mostly REMAKES, ports and rehashes. Because developers want to play it safe due to how expensive development of games has become.
AA gaming is dead outside of what a few indies produce.
pretty much, high production costs means they need to make huge profits. A silly ps2 game could make 4 million and be profitable, which is why so many creative games got made.
Man I really wish games would return to being not as expensive to make. Imagine what kind of weird experimental games we could get with the technology and budget of a big company, today!
I feel Okage Shadow King could have fit in on this list. It's one of the earlier RPG's on the console and you play as a boy who's shadow is possessed by a demon king to go around and regain his power.
That’s not that weird
@@theguywhofoundwaldoo7939 I was talking about the crazy visual style a little more than the gameplay.
I for one actually enjoyed Mister Mosquito, especially the level where you have to suck blood from a girl while she's in the bathtub. Even Mister Mosquito enjoyed the level with hearts in his eyes.
Mister Mosquito is a trans icon🏳️🌈
@@SonicXtreme99akaCreeperMario more like a SUCC icon.
@@SonicXtreme99akaCreeperMario 👎🏾
Mister Moskeeto's easter egg/minigame is actually more fun than the main campaign, it's the only reason I still own a copy!
I was expecting weird games I wouldn’t want to play, I want to play everyone of these games
Some of these games really put the ‘mental’ in ‘experimental!’
Not so much weird as it was unconventional, but Mad Maestro! was a rhythm game that used, of all things, classical music. Why this rather simple pairing hasn't been done since then, is anybody's guess.
Under the Skin is the only game on this list I even saw in person let alone played, I loved it especially the 2player modes. Whiplash is a game I to this day wish I had played, I saw it in a PlayStation magazine before it came out but that magazine was the only time I ever saw it, this video is the first time I’ve ever seen the game in motion.
I honestly played Dogs life it was really good that ending was freaky and still sits in my brain rent free
I played it also as a child think it was funny
i remember under the skin(would be something if cosmi showed up in the vs. games with jill referencing her cameo.),gregory horror show(saw it on capcom consumer chronicle which introduced me to a lot of capcom's older series that i hope we see more collections of.:3) & mister mosquito(got it after seeing the toonami review and thought it was charming in it's 2002 style)
I like Under the Skin, Chulip, Stretch Panic, Dog's Life and Mister Mosquito.
I love Dog’s Life it is a fun game but really hard.
“Ms Peaches... is... cat food”
The original jake the dog before adventure time
Definitely and Totally one of THE Weirdest PS2 games from my Childhood Years are Whiplash, The Adventures of Darwin, Dr. Muto, Under the Skin, Katamari Damacy, Chulip, Stretch Panic and Mister Mosquito. Those PS2 games from my Childhood Years are definitely and totally one of THE Most Weirdest games I've ever played.
In a world where a voice from the heavens tells you to cut loose
I remember Dogs Life being covered in some gaming TV show i used to watch as a kid, so naturally I wanted to pick it up. Fast forward to today, its one of my greatest childhood gaming memories. I still remember the cheerful theme tune that would play at the farmhouse starting area. That and making Jake poop and then have him pick up the turd and drop it on people. Lol
I only played Dr. Muto and have warm memories of it, but I also remember seeing Whiplash, A Dog's Life, and Mister Mosquito around.
You guys are going to need to make a who series of this! The PS2 was the best console ever in my opinion that had some amazing and quirky games
I have a fond memory about Dog’s Life of going into the butchers shop and taking a 💩 on his meat and then running away with absolutely no shame.
I loved Whiplash, one of those games I played to death
Lmao
@@doriftuh7331 😁
10:51 I’ve seen the anime in it’s entirety on RUclips! It’s *not* for kids! Don’t let the blocky character designs fool you, the anime is much more complex that you would think it is!
0:00 narrator is Tony Rogers who voiced trailers for Disney in the mid 2000's - mid 2010's
Dr.Muto is to this day hands down the most fun I've ever had playing a video game
Played mr mosquito demo when I was 2 😭 00s was so aesthetic
"The early days of the console wars..."
Wtf?
It was the sixth generation of gaming and the arguably the 3rd or 4th console war.
I'd love to see a re-release of Stretch Panic.
That's a pretty bizarre list & I've not heard of half of them but I'm sure Dr Muto & the Gregory one came out on Nintendo's rival console (either Game Cube, N64 or Wii - not sure which was around at the time) as well
Whiplash- Pure nostalgic giddy gold
The Adventures of Darwin- No clue, but it reminds me of Pikmin
Dr. Muto- Funny and bombastic good time
Under the Skin- Sugar-coated acid trip of hilarity
Katamari Damacy- If marijuana was a game
Chulip- No clue
Stretch Panic- It...was a thing
Dog's Life- Vague recollection
Mister Mosquito- This was...something
Gregory Horror Show- No idea, kinda looks like Grim Fandango
Whats not included in the Katamari description here is that not only did the King destroy the universe he did it while drunk after partying a little too hard....Unless I am thinking of the second one.
I remember playing Dr. Muto but on the Xbox.
I thought The Adventures of Cookie & Cream would be a good fit for this list. It was my very first ps2 game when my parents got the early version of the console for a Christmas present, I also got a few ps1 games. The title is an interesting and challenging split screen puzzle platformer. Sadly my copy got mixed up with stuff to donate and I haven’t found another yet. Would love to get the complete physical copy again.
I loved Strech Panic and Katamari Damacy so much growing up.
I only played Mr Mosquito from the list and i loved that game!
Many of these were in this one gameinformer issue, which I always find odd whenever a list video like this comes up.
I remember whiplash so well.
I’m happy someone at least acknowledges its existence.
Gregory Horror Show is an inspiration of Pecola.
In a world where a voice from the heavens tells you to cut loose
Skyscrapers? Sometimes in Katamari you roll it big enough to pull up land masses and pull gods from the heavens.
Woww I totalllllly forgot about whiplash that was such a blast to the past Damn. I remember when these games came out katamari was another one I loved and mister mosquito lol
Surprised I didn't see gitaroo man on this list. Still love that game and play it from time to time
I think I played mister mosquito on one of those demo CDs that came with electronic gaming monthly
i have Beautiful Katamari for Xbox 360.
it's such a fun game but after years of playing, i still don't get how scoring works.. i roll giant 500m balls but the King still punishes me for not rolling up the right stuff.
still worth the 20$ i spent for it.
AH! Only English releases I see. Good list then. If you included Japanese games though, you'd need Super Galdelic Hour which is like a lewd version of the Teletubbies and no I'm not kidding. My mind is STILL reeling. Under The Skin is my favorite on this list and I would love a modern version with online multiplayer because the VS mode is where it's at!
OMG, adventure of darwin was my childhood game mann, it was sooo interesting i have no words for it XD
Wow I've never played these PS2 games before in my entire life except Whiplash, Gregory Horror Show, A Dog's Life and Dr. Muto.
Even more if you include Japan only games like Super Galdelic Hour, Koufuku Soukasan, Kuma Uta, Space Fishermen, Roommania, Poinie's Poin
whoa
You missed one of my favorite weird titles. It's called spider. A scientist gets his mind transfered into a cyborg spider.
I forgot about whiplash!!! That was a fever dream game from blockbuster
Remember playing ps2 games like ratchet and clank and sly cooper including Lego Star Wars games series Spyro enter dragon fly well katamari damacy really fun games but get really hard later on in the game too
Can you think of any other weird PS2 games we may have missed? Let us know down in the comments!

You guys should do Capcom! Capcom games like Street Fighter, DarkStalkers, Power Stone, Rival Schools, Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, Capcom Maximo, Okami, Breath of Fire, you name it!
Gitaroo man
The grand daddy of buddy platformers is jak not banjoo
Dual protagonists existed before banjoo but the firdt true dual protagonists is jak snd daxter due to a fleshed out story, focus on BOTH in story and gameplay
I think the series of Bratz games should be added to this. Very VERY strange.
10:50 The character models in this game look strangely familiar...
I still play Dog's Life to this day, on my Steam Deck. It's the best 😊
8:18
Pinching dem assets.
Huge tracts of land.
Mr Mosquito! It was an impromptu buy I never regretted (or completed!)
Also, let's reboot Whiplash :O
RW:Gregory Horror show reminds me of the show Pecula with its obvious reasons.
That’s because both shows were made by the same person.
My non-weirdest PS2 games: Time Crisis 2-3 and IGPX.
Broooo I remember whiplash!!!! That game was lit af
I got stretch panic (freak out) with the PS2. I played it once and had no idea what was going on.
I loved the game Chulip but, everybody I talked to about it just laughed and made fun of me for it. I liked Stretch Panic too if only because it was goofy. However, I actually had some friends that liked Stretch Panic too.
Im glad to play some of these
Especially Katamari
The only PS2 games I've seen are Whiplash and Dr. Muto (I remember REALLY wanting these games since I was a young girl. And I still hope to get a copy of them)
I loved dog’s life as a child 😂😂. Idk it was so weird and fun.
I love both Whiplash & Dr. Muto better
I just got Whiplash recently on the Original Xbox. It's pretty fun.
I still have and play Dog's Life, love that game lmao
No competition for best, definitely Katamari Damacy for me. Man I miss that series.
imagine mister mosquito and demolition girl with today's visuals
I played stretch panic but forgot what it was called. Ugh such a bizarre game
Noone ever mentions the tight controls Mr Mosquito had, it was a good game.
I love dogs life, it was one of my childhood games
Mister Mosquito was an awesome game. I wish they'd release it on steam.
Stretch panic and under the skin game both enjoyed hopefully switch games in the future
I LOVED A Dog’s Life!
This was back when devs were willing to take risks and made fun and good games. Not all just the same old thing
I remember seeing dr.muto on the shelf at blockbuster!
I have Chulip but have never played it. One day when I get around to it.
Am I the only one that saw Minecraft Steve as a child in the horror game. Guess that's why he grew up to live alone in the woods
I think leasuire suit Larry belongs on this list , that is a weird game!
3:41 Sounds like Mayor Quimby
Whiplash is an amazing game and I wish it would get an updated rerelease
I knew I didn't make some of these games up as a kid......
I wonder if any of these games are going to be in the PS Plus Premium tier?
If not, just emulate 😂
I feel like all of this games deserves a remake
Watchmojo referring a movie where SJ is fully naked is weird.
The point in gaming history where we knew how to make a video game, but not how to make a video game sell. So let's throw darts and see what sticks.
I'd love to find a copy of Mr. Mosquito
