I have attended the live performance. It was magnificent. Kahchun Wong's interpretation is vivid and passionate and still send shivers whenever I am listening and watching this. If you have the whole recording, I would be grateful for its upload.
Obviously didn't take conducting classes with Fritz Reiner.............maybe with Rozhdestvensky/Bernstein. The tempo for the "big tune" beginning around 1:30 made me immediately think of the way Tchaikovsky's tune so brilliantly fits the lyrics - "where is the key to the sh*thouse.........................."
HIs conducting is very unusual. Not a Dudamel or Rattle for sure. The arm and hand gestures are really quite extraordinary and Ive seen Bernstein and the great Von Karajan conducting in person. Not sure at all. But now he will be the Halle Orch new conductor which will be interesting. Certainly a different type of conductor for sure……
His conducting style seems less flamboyant in this more recent Tchaikovsky # 4. ruclips.net/video/WKhx031AQj0/видео.html I was at a 1-hour rehearsal in January, at Halle St. Peter's, of his of "The Firebird". Sitting right behind him (feet away) his style was much less flamboyant than in this video. What was impressive was his ability to verbally describe the sounds he wanted. His gestures were quite precise too. As for The Halle the players love playing for him! 🙂
George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra - For over 150 years, the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra has been keeping up the rhythm of the musical life at the Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest a place where modernity is welcomed by tradition. Equally spectacular and dynamic, the generous space there has favoured encounters with classical and contemporary music by life-long attendees there and younger music lovers alike. Revered names such as those of Eduard Wachmann, George Enescu, George Georgescu, Constantin Silvestri, Mihai Brediceanu, Mircea Cristescu and Cristian Mandeal prove that the Philharmonic Orchestra has always had at its head master conductors who knew how to keep a high standard for the music in Romania.

Bernstein studied with Reiner - among others.
@@Emrla1 But he called Reiner "Fritz" so maybe wasn't so keen on Reiners approach.
He adored Reiner, he was just a bit brisk in his behavior 😉

Wong is very exciting to watch , I just saw him in NY Lincoln Center
Wonderful! Love to see the complete performance. Too bad they cut off the audience response at the end. Must have been thunderous.
What a GREAT performance!!!👏👏👏👏👏
