I just started my locs on Monday my best friend passed away in a car crash by a drunk driver. To me my locs growing is like his growth ❤️✨ he was 18 & it was his last year of high school. Its crazy because when i posted on snapchat my starter locs for the 1st time he died not to long later & I wanted him to see them because he was always the 1st person to watch my story. This loc journey is very special to me. His birthday is tomorrow he would have been 19 years old💔

I think what's drawing me into wanting locs is that I'm having a transition into a new stage of my life again. Big chopped when I graduated highschool, and was on a natural hair journey throughout college. I recently finally graduated and now I feel like it's time for me to exchange THAT stress I had all those years with my loose hair for something new.

I grew up in the religion of being Rastafarian and the spiritual aspect you speak on is so true. I’ve had locs all my life. My first set was free form and I cut them in when I was 13. I felt all the pain and sorrow I carried for years finally released and I have started and have had my new set for 11 years now. I absolutely love them and feel like a Queen.

I've had my locs for nearly 3 years and recently I've been feeling like I want to comb them out and return to my natural curls.Your video and your explanations for your journey really helped remind me of why I started mine in the first place- to displace societal ideas of what I and my hair are "supposed" to look like and to embrace fully and truly what it means to be natural to me. I wish you all the best on this jounrney. Be prepared to face a BARAGE of comments and opinions on you and your hair, ESPECIALLY during the budding phase. Keep reminding yourself of your intentions and manifestations and I cannot wait to see how your locs develop! Much love from Trinidad and Tobago.

@@dinas1825 No but that is the point. The Mau Mau tribe of Africa (where 'dreads' come from) decided to leave their hair alone and allow it to do its natural process, which is forming a crown on the head, to rebel against the British troops who threatened their way and life and wanted them to conform. They were warriors..rebellious spirits. Whenever colonizers saw these beings with knotted and unkempt hair, they DREADED their arrival because they represented everything the colonizers did not support or innerstand. They dreaded their powers. To have dreads is an honor. Pree..THEY dread US, WE are not dreadful.

I’m so glad I just stumbled across one of your videos. I’ve been struggling with the decision to loc or not to loc. I’ve always been drawn to it but didn’t like the finality of it. My Daddy passed away 3 years ago. I am just emerging from the cocoon I’ve been encased in. Listening to what you said in this video was like a light bulb for me. I need to make a decision. The time is now. Having the back door to exit and unravel my hair and straighten it, if I chose, having the option is what I thought I was holding on to. Yet, in over 10 years, I’ve straightened my hair twice. It’s not even something I aspire to do. 🤣 There is a reason I’m being pulled in this direction. I will never be who I was prior to my Daddy getting ill and passing. This is just one beginning to who I am to Be! Thank you so very much for sharing. Yet again, confirmation that I am on the correct path and I am better than ok! 💜. It is a Spiritual Journey.

Beautiful video ❤️ but I do feel like embracing the idea that our hair holds our power or so much power can be damaging because bad circumstances happen beyond our control like having alopecia and lupus which causes people to lose hair and this idea can make them instantly feel powerless you know. Even if this may be true I’d like to encourage people not to take it as their truth because hair can fall off and this concept can make someone feel absolutely powerless. With or without hair we are all absolutely powerful.❤️

GIIRLLL!!! I love your video!! Thank you so much for the knowledge that you shared! I LOVE your decor, your salt lamp, the white and green! It’s beautiful to see how grounded you are in your history and yourself, it definitely shows - you are glowing! Also 🇯🇲 all day!! Keep furthering yourself on your journey, I can identify with so much of what you shared and have FINALLY started my loc journey after what feels like a lifetime of desire. The only difference is despite my family being from Jamaica, the support wasn’t there (which is partly why it took me so long to loc). But I finally decided to do it because as you mentioned, my hair started to loc naturally, so I figured, why fight so hard against something that my hair is naturally doing? I’m looking forward to following your journey! 💚🖤💛❤️

I braided my daughter’s roots and twisted the rest... she has a similar texture which is why I did that and it did work out well. She’s 2 months locked!!! Thanks for sharing.

You're making some healthy observations, most poignant to me is about us trying so hard to level the field - when in fact we were already superior, yet manipulation, through social standards and acceptance, tricks us into sacrificing what makes us special.. I've known it for a while i just couldnt put words to it as well as you did 👌

I’m so glad I found your channel!!! I’m ready to loc my hair well I’ve actually been wanting to for years now but I always assumed my hair texture (3b-3c) wouldn’t allow it but I’m over that!

I wanted to start locs a few months ago for the style and convenience, now since I've started my spiritual journey, I want to do it more!

Thank you for sharing your perspective. My loc journey has begun (in my Spirit), although I haven’t started then yet because I’m still researching. However, I KNOW this is what I need to do. I appreciate your candidness on the natural hair “standards” of what is beauty...aka...BIG HAIR! I was like, “yesss! I felt the same way.” I’m a performing artist and I often wear my hair BIG on stage because that’s deemed more...well...beautiful. Nothing wrong with big or small hair though. I felt you on that! Anyways, thanks for the information. This video encouraged me to get my locs started in the physical! 😎

Coming back to your channel to see when you washed your hair after starting your journey. I'm 1.5 weeks in and there is a style in it but I feel I'm going to need to wash it asap!!! Starting to get itchiness.
Oan: I feel you on your statement about not combing your hair because I literally would only detangle my hair about 2x a month before I started my journey. I been wanting locs for the longest and I am so excited about my journey. Started with two strand twist.
