I've been an Excel power user since 1995. While I knew (and use frequently!) most of these, I did learn a few new ones. The Copy -> Paste Special -> Add method of getting numeric text to actual number types AS A RANGE just rocked my world! That's a problem I've never been able to solve well within Excel, without using notepad or something else to help the conversion. Add to that the dynamic array vectored selection solution, and I'm fairly blown away. Great stuff. Well done Chandoo! Thanks for the awesome video!!
Converting text to number by "add". This is one of the most useful Technic.. I always found difficulties.. hope the issue sorted.. what about Google sheets.. is there any trick?
Really enjoyed the videos. I use almost all the shortcuts shown in the video and these are literally quite helpful! Some of the other shortcuts that I use are: -Like Shift+space is used to select a row, Ctrl+Space is used to select a column. -Ctrl - is used to delete a selected cell, row, column -Ctrl+shift = (i.e Ctrl + is used to add a cell, row, column -Ctrl R to drag the formula to right side, Ctrl D is for dragging downway -Ctrl + Pg Up and Ctrl + pg down to navigate different tabs in a sheet. It helps when you’re using keys more instead of mouse. I must say Ctrl + shift + V for pasting cells as values has been a hero for me lately. 😂
some "insights" about the CTRL+A keyboard shortcut: 1. When the active cell is surrounded by empty cells - selects the entire worksheet 2. a. When the active cell is surrounded by cells containing data - selects the entire range of cells. 2. b. Repetition of Ctrl+A - selects the entire worksheet 3. a. When active cell is in a table - selects the entire table (only data, without headers) 3. b. Repetition of Ctrl+A - adds the summary row and headers to the selection 3.c. Repetition of Ctrl+A - selects the entire worksheet 4. When an object is selected (chart, shape) - selects all the objects of the worksheet 5. When typing a formula, pressing Ctrl+A after the first left parenthesis, displays the Function Arguments dialogue box.
This was totally awesome Chandoo!! Learned 2-3 new features that I didn't knew... like the dynamic array option was totally new and game changer for me!!! Just had a quick question regarding using the shift button to move a column in data.... Does that dynamically adjust formula or not, if those cells are linked??? One solution that I generally use for that was to cut the entire column and paste it to new column... That way the formula and everything remained fine....
FYI, the select-column, shift and drag technique he used is the same as Insert Cut Cells on the Home menu. Select source column/row, Ctrl + X, select target column/row, then Alt I E, or Ctrl + Shift + =. Everything (relative references, formatting) is preserved on the target/moved column. Very handy!
Hi Chandoo Garu, Thank you for the covering the topics. I am a financial analyst i want to move data analytics role i learned power bi is it necessary to learn alteryx also?
Hi Chandoo, When I try to apply a Dynamic Array formula on a table it shows me a Spill error. Without a table, it worked fine. Is there a way we can use a Batch formula on a Table ?

Instead of adding blank cell to data to transform text to numbers, you can directly multiply numbers with 1 and can get number format.
For that you need a cell with number 1. My technique works without any extra items on the page.

I suck at remembering shortcuts. If only there was a better way. 😎
Don't memorize. Instead just use Excel regularly and you will build a personalized list of shortcuts over a few months.
CTRL+SHIFT+V is not working.
