This sound bar was number one on my list when I was building my system. Then I heard a Klipsch home theater and went with that instead, but I might get it for the living room. Although I’m also getting Rotel based HiFi stereo system with B&W speakers haha

I have 2 Bose 901 Series 1’s from 1968 that I retro-modded and added a miniDSP in place of the old noisy Analog EQ. Those are my main Speakers. My Center Channel is a Series 2 901 Fromm 1972. Two Bose 901 Series 2 Continentals serve as my Surrounds.

Its the branding and the price MOSTLY THE PRICE with Bose they very rarely are the best or even close when offered against a similar priced equipment but Bose does sound ok when compared to equipment that is three time LESS in price IE: Sony Samsung LG and so on brands that sell in this price range is were Bose products belong in sound comparison ...
That's were most of the hate comes from the way over priced to spec and sound quality ..
Yes Bose sounds OK but NOT worth the price

This popped up and I watched it. Didn’t know people did not like Bose. I love Bose. It’s a company that’s been around for years, there customer service is great, and I love that there sound is clear and not scratchy. Yes, if you want the Dolby affect, wish it had that but that’s why you buy products based on what you’re looking for. Great input on both of y’all

I had the Bose 700 and Sub and the Arc and Sub. The Bose has much better dialog, which is VIP for me. The Bose sounded warmer. The ARC has a wider sound. The subs were about equal. I kept the Bose and added the 700 surrounds.

The sacrifice of a little precision for a much more grand scale when it comes to sound stage and depth is a Bose signature. This is a result of Dr. Bose’s award winning papers on direct/reflective sound as opposed pure direct sound. This led to the creation of the Bose 901s. And there is an entire section within the audio industry that’s geared towards that sound, and the production of Bi-Polar and Omnipolar speakers. For me personally, I enjoy reflective sound more than pure direct, in your face stuff like Klipsch. And for me, the Bose sound has more musicality for that very reason (vast soundstage, almost 3D like depth)....because that’s what live performances sound like. And I would categorize it as “inaccurate” or lacking in “musicality”.
    Good review! Really enjoyed it!

I have to agree. I was one of those negative Bose people but never owned a Bose product. I have a LG 77GX and bought the LG SN9YG soundbar. The highs, mids and voices sounded “muffled” on most content on the LG. I then bought the Bose 700 with the base module and it blows the LG out of the water. Even my wife who is not in to electronics was impressed. I had her listen to the LG and Bose at the same time. High frequency sounds that were muffled on the LG you could here on the Bose. Voices were detailed, natural and clear. Even without Atmos the Bose sounds better on movies.

Love the app and I just wished for $299 more, you’d have reviewed the entire system as a whole. I gotta be honest, I'm not loyal to any sound system but really want bang for the buck. I was reluctant to spend big $ on the Bose 700 system but went for it anyway. I guess I wanted to see what a "high end" sound bar could be. I started with just the soundbar and it was nice but really wanted more kick. I sprung for the sub and was happy after running the sound app. I couldn't stop myself, I had to complete the 5.1 system. I spent the dollars for the wireless rear speaker setup to completed the system. I was skeptical that the tiny speakers could do the job. I was blown away by the complete system and is now the standard by which all others must compete. The sound clarity is tight, the sound is smooth and fills the room with sound seamless. I have to say, Andrew's review nails it, I agree 100% Bose is awesome! I still think about the money I spent but when the system is on, I forget about all that. Mostly.... ;-)
EDIT: I forgot to add, I hate having yet another remote to deal with but used it when my 75" big screen tv remote died. I used the Bose remote in it's place and holy smokes, it's now my remote of choice. Just like the build quality of the speakers, the remote too is just built with quality and functionality. Cheers!

The way I heard it when I was younger was, "No highs, no lows, must be Bose." I think it may have initially come from critics of the 901, because the speaker used 9 full range drivers and required pretty extreme EQ in order to approach a flat response. This is remembering old Bose from the early/mid 80s, but I always enjoyed their 501/601 towers. The only ones I have owned are the 2.1 version of the Acoustimass sat/sub. They didn't sound bad, but they couldn't really compete with the fidelity of a decent bookshelf speaker. I think a bit of the Bose hatred comes from the nature of a niche hobby. That being, "Nothing fails like success." Because it's a mass market brand that normal people know of, it automatically loses credibility. Part of it is also that Bose products rarely end up best in class for a particular price category. I think saying that Bose "sucks", is an overstatement. Bose has its place. It's probably better than a lot of people currently use. Won't likely do "that thing" that an audiophile is looking for.

I just setup the Bose Soundbar 700 with Bass 700 and I absolutely love this setup. I did have to tweak the Bass module a bit to get decent sound when watching movies VS listening to music. I mainly got this to watch movies and TV shows more clearly. I do have trouble hearing high pitches include voice. The voice option is far better then anything else I have used thus far. I can not say enough good things about the remote. I’m blown away how easy this remote is and how functional it is. Paired with my 65” Sony TV this is an excellent complement to a quality TV with a little kick. If anyone has hesitations I would recommend buy, try and return if you don’t like it. But do play with the settings before you decide to return. I also have to say the Apple TV integration is excellent and exactly what I was hoping for. So far I’m a very satisfied customer.

I have the full 700 system and love the feel of remote but I want to use this system for 15 -20 years. Don’t you think the remote should have the basic functionality of adjusting sound settings? It does not have anything other than volume! For such a huge “soundbar” remote! When apps are not supported and phones reject the apps later, how do we adjust Bass, treble and use adaptiq?

    • @tcomputerchip
      @tcomputerchip 3 года назад +1

@@Abhitips224 while I do agree it is a bit odd to not have the other options on the remote. I do not think in 15-20 years from now they would completely drop support for a high-end product. Though you may be correct, they could push a patch to add volume ability to the 3 different ranges. However, I suspect they would do that through the app before long. This also heavily depends the app so I do not see it going away anytime soon. In 15 years I may be upgrading to the next level hardware anyway so I’m not too worried.
The one thing I would like to see is support for more frequently ranges. I suspect they can do it but may opt to stay with a simple interface for users.

It presents the sounds somewhat nice in space but it never feels at least to me true to life, even equalized sound a bit flat no matter what I add in a EQ. It always feel off even against cheap IEMs with even just a good Dynamic Driver. It's not bad for sure but not excepcional at something. Klipsch are the liveliness, the bang are the impressive sound, sennheiser are the laid back and bose is the thing that has some power to the sound but not excepcional at even that. I tried the full Arc set up and some others with Atmos - none of them worked well and the sound was just ok. When spending $2k for a full setup I just expected better and the Atmos effect fell flat because of the room shape, and We weren’t happy with them sonically. The 700 with sub and jewel cubes hit the sweet spot for our room and ears. Sound is subjective, but we really appreciate the Bose. Bose doesn’t SUCK!! I own the 700 Soundbar, 700 Bass Module and 700 Surround Speakers and unless you’ve actually experienced listening to these products in your own home setup, your opinion is irrelevant. There seems to be a lot of Bose haters out there holding onto old outdated opinions that only confuse others entering the consumer grade soundbar market because it’s popular to do so. Maybe Bose has made mistakes and or crappier products in the past, I can’t speak to it personally, but I will say to anyone that has doubts about this product/setup. Just go buy it, try it and if you still aren’t satisfied, return it. I’ve personally tried other products in the similar price range and landed on these guys. I’ve also added two Bose Home 500 Speakers that pair to this Soundbar nicely with functionality similar to Sonos products that I set up around the house. I recently added the 700 Headphones that pair with the 700 Soundbar as well for watching movies at night, only issue is that I wish the max volume was a bit louder. I’ve read that it’s for safety issues, but it’s not a deal breaker. Hope this helps anyone considering buying the 700 Series. Thank you Andrew for the honest in-depth review! Can’t wait to hear your take on it after you get the 700 Surround Speakers 😉

At some point in my life I was a Klipsch rep in the local military exchange. To give you an idea how long ago, my line was the Tangent XX series. While I had to share a wall with all the non-Bose speakers, Bose had an entire wall just for their products. I loved it when people would come in and start looking at the Bose wall and then I would suggest they compare the 901s ($999) to the Tangent 10s($270). Nine times out of ten, people agreed the 10s sounded better. Now that being said, I always felt the 401s where actually a good sounding mid priced speaker. And the original Acoustic Wave had no peers at the time. And remember, this was the era of the mini-fridge boom box. So while their "audiophile" centric gear was lacking(approaching appalling). They did have some gems in the lower end. And their noise cancelling headphones are top notched, if a little overpriced. BTW my favorite Bose burn... Bose-ohs... People who are complete Bose fanatics.

It still has bluetooth, which works perfectly, and the HDMI ARC has been convenient. The build is clean, and it fits the aesthetic of my console shelf, TV and living room. Even then, I'm still constantly tempted to trade it out for a 2 channel receiver plus speakers on stands.

Your review is very accurate and was very pleased that you gave it a thumbs up. People who criticise Bose have no idea what they're talking about. Until you own one and have it setup in your room then you'll never understand the quality of the product. I replaced a 7.2 system of McIntosh, Rotel and B&W costing 10s of thousands of dollars for a Bose 5.1 smart bar ultra system that cost less than half of the price of just the Mcintosh pre. We remodelled our den and I simply didnt want to run dozens of cables all over again. The results have been an eye opener. The Bose sound bar system does in fact, give the 10 times more expensive setup a run for its money! Can it match it? Of course not! BUT, for watching movies and playing games the difference is not nearly as obvious as you would ever expect. In fact despite the Mc preamp having the latest and greatest adapti Q system (im sure the Bose one is of lower spec) the Bose easily has more coherent dialog than the 10 times more expensive one! It has plenty of volume, plenty of powerful, very deep, clear bass and the sound quality and surround performance of the bar is excellent! The onle cable required for setup was a single HDMI from the bar to the TV. The surrounds and sub are wireless. Setup using the Bose app was a snap. Coming from an "audiophile" count me as duly impressed.

The thing with BOSE is that they produce some really good products *for what they are*. And what they are is typically compact all in one units, portable speakers, tiny satellites with subs, etc. These are product categories that nothing ever excels in the way that larger speakers do, because frankly, they can't. So BOSE make really good products in sub optimal categories - fundamentally limited in what they can ultimately do, but they do those particular things better than most direct competitors. So they are really strong candidates if you need that particular product category/form factor. but probably not if you can have traditional bookshelf / tower speakers.
It's no accident that the two products where they have really gained acceptance is portable bluetooth speakers, and headphones. Because these are products that are defined by their form factor. A portable bluetooth speaker has to be light, it has to fit in your bag. And when all of your options are limited by form factor, then BOSE are pretty good at maximising what that will deliver.

Nail on the head! Also a lot of people actually want relatively compact systems that sound good all around the room. They like the Bose sound. They might be blown away if they hear a full size 5.1 or 7.1 home theatre system but chances are they don't want to use that much space on their home system. They're not wrong for wanting Bose.

I've had access to much of the high-end stereo and headphone market and can honestly say: Bose isn't that bad, especially modern Bose. In fact, it was a very, very close thing that made me choose the Bowers and Wilkins PX7 over the Bose 700 headphones and having heard some sound bars, it often came down to this setup, or the Sonos option (though I have yet to hear the Sennheiser Ambeo). In terms of other speakers, even going back to the Computer MusicMonitor (which I'm looking for a decent pair of on the used market), which was over a decade ago, I've liked their sound. Even if it wasn't the most accurate, it was fun to listen to.
So thanks for this review and considering the product rather than the brand name and general audiophile wisdom.

I'm nowhere near an audiophile, but for me, no matter what other brand I might hear for home audio, Bose has just always been my favorite. With my primary use being TV, movies, and such, crystal clear vocals have always been important to me and Bose just delivers on that with every product I've ever purchased from them. The sound overall just sounds very crisp.
I feel most of the crowds that dislike them are those that like to go against the grain. They're a very Apple-like company. You certainly pay an extra tax for their products and people tend to hate popular companies like that with similar business models. They become blind to facts and immediately dismiss the product the second they hear who made it.

I had the Bose sound bar with surrounds and 2 subs sold that and got the Sonos arc surrounds and 2 gen 3 subs and the Sonos blows the Bose away in every aspect hands down

@@jamesrose298 I find that very hard to believe sounds like you didn't have it calibrated well enough but each is own

Regarding Bose, I was exposed to them in the mid to late 2000s. Tons of people were raving about the Wave radios like they were Heresy Mk IVs. And my $200 Kenwood shelf system has so much more warmth and bottom end. So yeah, I've been less inclined to give them a chance. I do have their noise canceling earbuds, though, and like them a lot.
