    Absolutely in love with this wee harp 😍 I'd love the eve double in walnut! Maybe in a year or 2 if I'm very lucky!

    As a young boy, I wanted so much to play the harp. Instead, my father made a violin for me. So, I became a violinist and violist. We were extremely poor growing up in Kentucky. I later became an Anglican choirmaster and organist as well. Sill not financial well off now and disabled at 59. I would give most anything if I could afford one of these wonderful harps. I still dream of playing one and accompanying a men's Schola in a cathedral. I LOVE THE SOUND OF YOUR HARPS!

      Hi my friend, You might be able to afford one or get your church to buy it for you. The Eve I'm playing above, if you get it without levers, is only $1117 including the case, extra strings, etc. With just F levers and the Lady Godiva levers, you can do about anything you need, at just a little added expense for that. Contact me thru the website and I may be able to help you. southeasternharps,com Best wishes in all your music!

      HI my friend. I just now saw this, sorry for the late reply! I love that you have had a musical life. It is not too late to play the harp especially if it is double strung- to me it's easier. I have many people start on this harp and they do fabulously. Some time email me and we can chat. my email is smilingharp@gmail.com

    A long time ago, I attended a garden wedding, and the music was provided by a harpist.
    The music wasn't Chamber music or anything I had ever really heard before. I named it "angel music" since I couldn't find it anywhere. It was light, glittery, and had airy, rolling glissandos. I hoped to hear it again without any success
    . . .until now.
    I must tell you, I was shocked when you started to play, and
    your playing has made an instant convert to double-strung.
    Definitely thank you for finding my angel music for me. 🍃😍🍃

    I sure would enjoy more videos of songs played on the Eve. Pretty please? This is the harp I plan on buying later on in the year and to satisfy my craving to hear it, I listen to all the videos using her, over and over, but there aren’t that many. Thank you again for all that you do for the DS harp community!

      also email me smilingharp@gmail.com There is a long wait list so if I get you in the queue now you will be able to get it by spring of 2021. You don't pay a deposit and can back out any time. Wait is 8-12 months depending on whether there are more shut-downs. Be safe, and happy harping! Carolyn

    I have several for you questions for you. 1) do you play much on single string harps? I have an Eve, but struggle with what to play on such a tiny harp. I also haven’t quite figured out how to hold her. I have a strap, but it feels too close. 2). Are you self taught? Are you a piano player? 3) How is it to keep a double strung harp in tune? 4) Do you prefer the gothic or Celtic styles-one over the other? 5). I’m thinking a double strung may be more conducive to improvising than a single- your thoughts on that? Thanks in advance for your consideration.

    • @Smilingharp
      @Smilingharp  7 лет назад +3

      HI Kathy, I don't play single strung any more. Too hard. I would feel quite limited on a single strung 22 string harp, but the Eve double is 22 strings x 2 (44 strings) and I can play forever. Improvisation is waaaaaaaaaaay easier on double. I could improv for a few minutes at most on a single but can go 30 minutes and more improvising on double. You can get some ideas for holding her on tutorial 48. Gary now makes a cool set of legs too. So it feels like a floor harp. Yes I played piano as a kid. I love the Lorraine the best of all (Gothic). I love the range and low notes and big resonance. And I like the Brittany (Celtic style) and Eve (Gothic) equally. And it's fun to have a harp that is small enough to take somewhere on a whim. More questions? I love your enthusiasm.

    • @Smilingharp
      @Smilingharp  7 лет назад

      Right now I have an Eve double and a Brittany double in my production queue. I think Gary will allow these to sell at 2017 prices because that is when they were started being built. I'll see, if you want me too.

    • @kathykapsner3897
      @kathykapsner3897 7 лет назад

      What I left out is that I have a Marion also, but I’m not as successful with it as I had hoped to be. I am a piano teacher and play a few other instruments as well and thought I’d be good enough to play in public by now. I am seriously considering selling Marion for a double strung Lorraine. When I first got into this a few years back I borrowed Gary’s old Shop Lorraine and did pretty well in a few months. I think Marion is too high tension for me.

    • @kathykapsner3897
      @kathykapsner3897 7 лет назад

      I ended up developing “frozen shoulder”, but am over that now👍🏽😉

    • @Smilingharp
      @Smilingharp  7 лет назад +1

      Yes the Marion is too high tension for me, too, since I have neurological challenges. And I like a harp that I can take places, and the Lorraine is not cumbersome and fits in my Prius with my dog and TONS of other cargo.
      The Lorraine doesn't need all the bass strings that the Marion has, either. Double gets so much richness without going any lower than the Lorraine. Also going so low can be too overpowering. I used to play two 34-string harps together, and that was my experience. The lowest strings on the Lorraine, which are A and G, are soul-stirringly rich. I'm just crazy about that sound and it doesn't overpower.

  • @Smilingharp
    @Smilingharp  Год назад

    Yes this harp is the GREATEST!!! Since there is no deposit and you can back out any time, and there is such a long wait, we should actually put in an order for you and it will take a year for it to be made anyway. That way when you are "ready" you can get the harp without wait time. And sometimes I find a good deal on a used one nd I tell the customers in my queue first. Email me if you want at smilingharp@gmail.com and we can chat...

    If I could give this ten likes, I would! Thank you for this exquisite demo. I am 53 yrs old and as a child we were too poor to afford an instrument (I was told I had to take choir instead of band, or nothing). Fast forward to now... I've wondered for a long time if it is too late to start. I love the harp, can afford an instrument now, and have watched about a hundred demos to see what I would like to start with. This is it. I would like to order one. Could you please tell me exactly what to order if I would like the model you have which can do the Aladdin, Disney, and Lady Godiva Shakespearian sound? Thank you for your wonderful chanel.

    Hi Carolyn, I'm really enjoying your videos and discovering the double strung harp. I am still a beginner on the single strung, but am becoming more and more in love with doubles! And you make it seem so "doable!" My question is - what is the string tension on the Eve double? I have some hand issues and I really need a light tension (currently I play a Flatsicle). Thank you in advance. Love the videos!

    • @Smilingharp
      @Smilingharp  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Jill, I'm so glad you found double-strung. Yes, it's very do-able. I have beginners on single strung turn into much more accomplished-sounding players within a couple of weeks of getting two rows. It's like hopping on one leg for a year and then getting two. Whew! Eve is light tension. It would work for you if you are currently playing a Flatsicle. Email me and I can tell you a lot more, smilingharp@gmail.com. southeasternharps.com has extra info too! Carolyn

    wow what a lovely little harp!! i am shopping for a little harp and the double strings look so fun! is it possible to tune it pentatonically ??

    • @Smilingharp
      @Smilingharp  6 лет назад +1

      Yes- two ways. Either have it tuned in C and just play white strings. Or if you have a fully levered one, you can have it tuned in C and raise all the B and E levers. If you have it tuned in another key, then lift the #3 and #7 string of the scale. To get a little double strung, I can help you pick the best wood and lever configuration for what you need, and give you a free lap harp board! Happy harping! Carolyn

    • @Angel-cu5mf
      @Angel-cu5mf 6 лет назад

      thank you i will try this!! i love the pentatonic scale because it seems easier to improvise with and such soothing tones. i will be in touch about perhaps getting one of these Eve harps i'm researching which one i want now!

    • @Smilingharp
      @Smilingharp  6 лет назад

      I just found this, Angel, sorry for the late reply! Yes if you have levers it's easy to flip them to make it pentatonic.

    Hi Carolyn, I was wondering: between the Brittany double and the Eve double, which would you recommend? I'm basically a beginner with little to some experience in harps - though I've been playing music on several instruments for years - but I would like to go ahead and get a harp that I'll have for a long, long time. I've watched your Eve video and your Brittany video about 100 times each, and they both sound amazing. I am looking to play Celtic music, but I also want to play just about everything else and maybe write a little bit of my own.

    • @Smilingharp
      @Smilingharp  6 лет назад

      Hi Libby - I'm so glad you're listening to them so much - it means you've caught the bug! It's THE best harp to start on and it's a forever harp - not a harp you have to "move on from." I can help you assess whether a Brittany or an Eve is best for your needs, but email is so much easier - please email me at smilingharp@gmail.com. There is also a lot of comparison info on southeastern harps.com too. Hope to talk soon! Carolyn

    • @Smilingharp
      @Smilingharp  6 лет назад

      Hi Libby - sorry I just saw this comment. Either harp would be good for you. String spacing is wider on Brittany, so a little easier if your placement is not as accurate. Brea is the new hapr - basically a Brittany strung F-F. Email me to learn more - smilingharp@gmail.com!
