Here is the thing, Howard did in fact say once that the show is more important than Beth. It was when Chauncey interviewed Howard during Get John's Job. Sal probably heard that and nothing ever changed in his head.

The most annoying part to me was how they stretched this out. Howard just needed to tell him not to come. Instead, he kept saying "please don't come", which dragged it out. It was his wedding. Just tell him to stay away.
