Haha!!! I did the refit on that beautifu oldl boat!! Every week Steve would present me with a bottle of rum in appreciation for my work. May the universe bless this man!!! A true wooden boat lunatic. A legend and wonder!!
My God those were beautiful! Truly love your channel, from the sailing to the galley work to the maintenance care of your S/V and all the bits in between. You give great inspiration to those of us just starting out.
I really appreciate hand-built stuff, the passion just oozes out of the final product. I work with metal but whatever the material, hand carved has it's own beauty.
What a beautiful addition to all your videos,as my love for wooden boats/yachts is never ending. Living between Havre De Grace and Annapolis, I'm so fortunate . Thank you for sharing this wonderful part of your adventure. Enjoy and be safe 🌞⛵
Those were some truly beautiful yachts and honestly using beautiful to describe them doesn't really sound like enough. As always fair winds, safe travels and God Bless...
OMG... They were all beautiful and astonishing. I will have to say that the Witch stole my heart. Put me in the mind of Bogart and Hepburn on the African Queen (One of my ALL TIME favorite movies). Might have to watch it again this evening for the umpteenth thousand times.
What a wonderful episode. So much love for traditional boats, those owned by other people, but would *never* want the responsibility myself! Good to have Troy clarify what the little brass wheel was for. Sliding wine glass rack is pure genius. Needs no explanation .... 🤣 🥂🎉
WOW, I just love wooden boats, All you showed are just incredible, My old yacht is made of Huon Pine, the smell of a wooden boat is something else ......... Great Vid thank you for sharing
My grandfather had restored 2 steamboat hills and built both engines in NH. I love the wooden boats, my first sail on the ocean was in 40’ schooner. Thanks for this video!
Thank you for giving us a tour of the Pittwater Wooden Boat Festival. These wooden boats are works of art and very unique. Thank you, Troy and Pascale for the tour and your genuine interest in the boats and builders.
2 things i liked the most, one was that steam engine,so cool, its hot,and that prism glass to let light to the inside....very cool. Thanks for thanking us along. Those were some cool ships...
Its good to see the love for wooden boats is universal. Each year there is a fantastic wooden boat festival in Madisonville, Lousisana, that is a wonderful time to be had by all.
: Wow.... The Woodworking was just marvelous. You can see the painstaking work that went into making those boats so beautiful and practical in so many ways. Thank you for the video. Wishing you smooth sailing.⛵
Beautiful artwork in the boats. I live in South Carolina in the USA, each year, in August, there is a wooden boat show in a small Harbour town Named Georgetown. The boats are beautiful but not as elaborate as yours. Great video.
You are an inspiration in so many dimensions. Binge watching from the beginning. Reinforces my desire to “free range”, although a few years off till kids start college. Thx for putting yourselves out there.
Witch of Endor-what a fun boat. You can keep your fancy fiberglass and plywood yachts. I would take a boat like this any day... Would love to have a horn like that for my truck.
Thanks for this vid guys! As a wooden boat owner I love seeing other well loved examples of fine craftsman ship and ingenious examples of marine design.
That was awesome. I remember when I was a lot younger and Mum took my brother and I to a boat show and the maritime museum. The only boats my brother and I were interested in were boats like these. Great memories. thanks and cheers.
Visited the wooden boat fest in Hobart last year whilst touring Tassie, also visited the wooden boat school in Franklin that is well worth a visit. Excellent vid again guys.
Just found you guys on Facebook!!!! Awesome pahe!!! Also just checked out your web site! Love it!!!! I'd rather watch 'Free Range' than anything on the television anyday!!
building my own boat has been on my bucket list for a long time. At this point in my life it probably never going off it. Thanks for sharing of some those who got it off theirs.
Hi Pascale and Troy, I was pleasantly surprised to see you here because I hadn't looked at the producers "label", so G'day! I have been to the Wooden Boat Festival myself in a previous life but now follow you two on Mirool and have reached Yamba so I'm a bit behind. Love all your vlogs but especially your "Someone asked me why I don't buy a catamaran, but I like sailing too much." I reckon you have given Mirool a new lease of life with her restoration. Happy sailing Guys!!!
Great stuff... as a retired boatwright carpenter I loved watching this. As a cruiser, I always enjoy your videos. Chenega Bfree SV Fascination Lyme, Ct USA
Glad to see you visited with my friends Kristal & Gerwyn on SV Lucy. Some of the odds & ends came out of my machine shop too. If you get down to Kettering in Tasmania, look me up. I've a spare mooring for visitors.
Hi Peter, we are in Port Arthur and are looking forward to dropping into Kettering very soon. We would love to meet you if you would drop us an email at mail@freerangesailing.com Cheers mate, T&P
I have to admit that I saw the title and thought "that'll be interesting"... it wasn't until I clicked through that I realized it was a FRS video and got really excited. Brilliant work as always. Thanks for putting the time in and sharing!
Wow... What a dramatic collection... I've been on Lucy. She was here in port Nelson 2 or so years ago, prior to heading up into the pacific. Stunning yacht...
The practicality of a plastic boat is undeniable, but wooden boats, even humble but well maintained, are just gorgeous. My father had an all wood 18ft (~5.5m) catboat (I think I mentioned this in comments on another video). Eventually the maintenance requirements overwhelmed him, and he sold it. Many fond memories of that catboat....Cheers.
Great stuff. And I say that as a Kiwi! You guys get to see some really great stuff, and I'm happy to be dragged along on your coat tails. Keep it up, Troy and Pascale.
Gday Guys once again a great video,I got to Meet one of your Patreon's Sailing in the Surf to City Yacht Race,he got the chance to Meet up with you and said you are Exactly as you are on your Videos witch i found Fantastic,Keep Living the Dream my Friends,Happy Days
Wow!!! Folly III!!, I spent countless hours refitting her. Did Steve mention the work that went into the engine box?? Steve, aka "captain folly" is an awesome bloke! I'm actually working on follyIII right now.

Awesome :) ... can just faintly hear the idea mill spinning in the collective FRS mind. Ive witnessed the seeds of Free Range Yacht Building planted ...
The triple expansion steam engines are fascinating. I did a day trip on The Waverley in Scotland a few years ago. The last seagoing passenger-carrying paddle steamer in the world. Worth it just to be mesmerised by the giant engine and paddles chugging away.
Haha!!! I did the refit on that beautifu oldl boat!! Every week Steve would present me with a bottle of rum in appreciation for my work.

There is something about a wooden boat that truly captures the love of sailing be it power or sail.
I know right!
Jesus wept . I've never seen so many moving parts on a boat as the Witch of Endor. Love that whistle :)
Watch your toes!
You betcha ! @@FreeRangeLiving
She certainly is , Haven't seen an engine like that since I was a kid @uncle bobs dead

An incredible episode. I have no words to describe the wooden wonders.
I really appreciate hand-built stuff, the passion just oozes out of the final product. I work with metal but whatever the material, hand carved has it's own beauty.
As Troy said. Beautiful Craftsmanship. Thankyou for showing us these traditional works of art.

The steam motor makes my day...the movement... the sound... so beautiful... thnx.!!!
Steam engines are living things, I think they may even have a soul.
Your videos have the same quality of those beautifully crafted timber boats. Your intelligent curiosity shines through. Keep em coming please.
Some beautiful boats there. Thanks for sharing. Fair winds & regards from the UK

Very cool! The steamboat brings back memories of my fathers hand built steamboat.
So many cool things in this video. As always Pascal's sound effects crack me up. I will watch this a few times, so many cool boat details.
