- Presenting... Pan Am's Theatre-in-the-Air. Here's my compilation of Hollywood clips of Pan Am in select scenes from 1970s and 80s movies. It's still here: The 747s, Worldport, and the Pan Am building. No other airline in the world has been featured as often in media as Pan Am. Can you guess all the movies that are featured in this video?
No claims of copyright are made here, except for my video editing sequence of this compilation. For educational purposes only.

Welcome to the New!!
What a shit show this turned out to be ☹
Class! From an age when international air travel was something to behold. We still miss you Pan Am.
American, Delta and United will never enjoy the international prestige that Pan Am and TWA once had together.
Anyway, AAL is very soon to go bankrupt and out of business.
Whats AAL? American Airlines?
Azis 56 yeah he means American but that's fake news
Maybe, but all three are still around, unlike Pan Am.
United by far has a better international route network than Pan Am or TWA ever had. United also used to have equivalent service to Pan Am or TWA but everyone forgets about that.
Did my Captain B 747 Training at Lufthansa.
Did my B 707 - DC 8 Training at Pan Am Academy ...
And had a beautiful Pan Am Flight Attendant as my girlfriend , She was from some small town in Texas.
Danee Smith .
Always in my heart ❤
Salute to you Captain
Did you marry her?
Thank you Pan Am, Trans World, Braniff, etc. This once avgeek kid of the 70s and 80s, collecting timetables always special noted various airlines in TV and films. Had a kid to dream of far off places I would eventuality visit myself as an adult. Great job here!!!
Don't forget Eastern airlines dude. I have so many memories with those airlines back in the 80z
@@pau.c_himself yes, Eastern is fondly remembered.
I have all of this airline memorabilia from the past with Panam, TWA, Braniff, Eastern, and Western and the smaller carriers and unfortunately it's all going to the trash can because nobody wants it. Sad to see so many of these items that I've collected over the years being discarded.
Having lost all of my airline timetables of the 70s, 80s, wish I could have your items.
0:39 Best moment ever, when 747 facing you while you waiting for on board it.
From the perspective of a retired Boeing industrial engineer, and someone who has spent their entire working life in aviation, Pan Am developed the systems and methods which the world's commercial airlines, airports, and air traffic management/control uses til this day. A comedy of errors which began in the late 1960's, and the Pan Am 103/Lockerbie Tragedy, sent the company on a downward spiral, from which no recovery was possible.
Pan Am taught the world how to do it, and their influence on aviation was every bit as important as the contributions of Orville and Wilbur Wright.
AMStationEngineer I agree. Pan Am was pretty much the equivalent of NASA in its early days and bestowed upon the US government the technology to set up a dominant worldwide airline transportation network. In return Pan Am became the chosen instrument flag carrier to represent US economic and political interests abroad. Pan Am leveraged its success through stable government airline regulation. But it was sorely unprepared to deal with airline deregulation in the late 1970s. Without Juan Trippe’s ambition and political saavy in Washington Pan Am slowly whittled away and crumbled until its demise in 1991. Even if it hadn’t collapsed it’s hard to see how it would have survived; being a flag carrier is even more a double-edged sword in today’s airline world than ever before.
You hit the nail squarely on the head!
Unfortunately, on the service end of things, todays aviation was influenced by Greyhound.
👏👏👏
Aviation enthusiasts, of any and/or all types and sub-specialties: December 8th, 2023, at 20:55 Hrs Eastern Time, will mark the 60th anniversary of the crash of Pan AM Flight 214, near Elkton, Cecil County, Maryland. This tragedy took 82 lives in a most unusual manner, and in only a very few seconds. This "Lightning-induced explosion of the No1. Reserve Fuel Tank" precipitated a momentarily rapid structural separation of the port wing from the fuselage, causing the airframe to literally disintegrate at 10,000-ft. There were no survivors, and a 50 y/o - 60 y/o firefighter for the Northeast Fire Company Ambulance Squad suffered a fatal myocardial infarction while responding to the scene.
I will post updates on my 'community' page regarding the particulars, and presumptive scheduling for what should prove to be an informative and heartfelt tribute to the many lives which were lost, and the friends/family members who's lives were forever changed in an instant.
If I could bring an aircraft back into service it would be a Pan Am 747-100
Hi Adrian; That was a Beautiful plane. Best Wishes to you. Sincerely, Tom
The B747-100 is a beautiful airplane, but it has the disadvantage of having a short operating distance due to low fuel capacity. In addition, it is difficult to train pilots because the cockpit is analog, and above all, it is an old plane, so the cost of restoration will be considerable.
So hard not to cry if you grew up with Pan Am.
I usually hate background music in videos but this was perfect.
You can't get any more Hollywood than Frank Sinatra.
@@sparkingwave thats true
Agree song was perfect since pan am introduced Americans to the jet age of flying and pan am was the launch customer for the 747
It should have been John Denver.
I was a Pan Am stewardess in the 70’s & flew out of JFK…glory days! Thank you for this video! So good to see!
Pan Am...great memories ! Thanks for the vid.
i would give all i ve got.to come back to these days!!!!!!!!!!!!.THE GOLDEN AIRLINES ERA........B 747 L1011 DC 10 ...................
I loved going to london from Los Angeles during the summer holidays when I was a student at USC. I used to buy $299 round trip tickets on Pan Am available to students on a stand by basis. I almost always got on the flights. And fantastic flights they were.
Being served a drink by Joan or sitting next to Sidney or Steve Mc these are the things that dreams are made of !!!! God what an era !!!
Pan Am was the best airline on the world!
Pan Am N736 yep,
Pan Am N736 🇵🇦
🐧👍👍👍👍👍
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I preferred Trans Global Airlines.
The biggest mistake was to allow Pan Am to go down. Pan Am was the greatest and the best Airline company that ever was.
ahh, Pan Am, the TRUE champion of the Airlines of The USA
Thank you Juan
The song perfectly matches with the feeling of Pan Am's greatness, to then the feeling of it going away, probably forever.
First generation of 747-100 of pan am and vocals of Frank sinatra .
Excellent footage .
Thanks a lot for post👍👍👍
God i miss Pan Am 😥😥😥😥😥😥🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💙💙💙💙💙🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
This was awesome. Now we need one for Hollywood's favorite airline: TWA.
I love that song!
Very nice video. Brought to me mixed feelings. I was in mid town this morning on Park Ave looking at the Pan Am Building and getting pissed off. It still says Met Life on the Pan Am Building and I’m sure Mr. Tripp is still more pissed off than l. What a shame.
Scary thing is when the young ones don’t know what you’re talking about when you say pan am building.
I'm in my early 40s. I remember Lockerbie vividly. I love Pan Am and never got the chance to fly with them.. to me, PanAm is a symbol of an optimistic and bright America.. before it was all brought down to the sewer it is today.
It's like with my nephew.. I wanted to put on some older movies and he was excited.. he said "that's when America was happy!" Broke my heart.
Can’t stop replaying this video is so niceeeee
You'll never leave on a jet plane unless you leave on a Boeing 747. Hence, if it ain't Boeing, I ain't going!
Unless if it was a 737 max......
If it's boeing, i ain't going!
Boeing used to be one of the most clever aircraft manufacturer in the world... now it can’t even figure out how to fix MCAS
@@etk3158 Max is back
@@747heavyboeing3 the boeing 777x/777-9 isn't even public yet bud its still in development
Great scenes
This looks like a old tv show theme song
Great compilations and background music.keep it up!!
Just beautiful....
I grew up with Pan Am. My old man flew the Strats through the 747s. It was a great airline with great people. Too bad PAA wasn't able to set up a domestic route network.
He flew two double decked airplanes.
Northwest Orient and PanAm flew both.
American briefly used the 747.
He probably flew the SP version of 747 as well.
@@747heavyboeing3 Yes, he flew the SP until UAL took them in 1986 along with Pacific rim routes. SP was his favorite as at that time there were no -400 and the sp routes were 17 hours LAX to SYD. He could do 2 of those and get his monthly 70 hours in.
@@747heavyboeing3 He never flew NWA. After a brief time at FTL he moved straight to PAA in 1955
Fantastic video!!
Pan Am was the epitome of aviation!
Great video, I love it ! If you add Pan Am’s 707 you’ll have even more colorful movies with Doris Day, Julie Andrews, Omar Shariff, Sean Connery, Paul Newman etc.
Tito Zaninovich Thats a good suggestion. Maybe I’ll make a dedicated Pan Am 707 video sometime.
Miss pan american September 1976 New York to Frankfurt Germany 8 hours
Eastern Airlines is back, now we need our beloved Pan Am
Current Eastern is not the same.
My Grandparents would ONLY fly to Honolulu, HI on a Pan Am 747.
Now you get a 737 from California on Southwest or Alaska airlines.
WIDEBODY is the way to fly there.
@@747heavyboeing3 first, the 747 is a widebody. 2nd, the 737 is not a widebody.
This is the best airline EVER not Emirates not Qatar not Etihad Panama and best of all it flew the queen of the sky's
Uncommon Grain well America has really fallen behind. Lol
Howard Hughes would say different TWA all the way.
yes ❤️
@@jakeianmartinez9902 but kinda its in the regular airline catagory like it has 5 or more or less crashes
Simply iconic.
Love this!
Greetings from Mexico City. Very good video accompanied by "Leaving On A Jet Plane" interpreted by the magnificent voice of Frank Sinatra. Sorry, what movie does Joan Collins appear as Pan Am flight attendant? The 70's and 80's were very good years and the Pan Am´s 747 was the King of the skies.
Moving , simply moving
The Humble Jumbo has made its mark into history.
Joan Collins as an air hostess!
Make some sounds with the ice
Proper CLASS! Still We can always fly easyjet to Benidorm!!!!!!!!!!!!Totally different World Great Vid well done
Pan Am was in the 1968 Steve McQueen movie "Bullet, but it was a 707.
It’s failure just shows how badly we’ve been betrayed
Now i remembered TWA!
Agree TWA all the way.
AMAZING VIDEO
This video is perfect I love the music I love all the pan am planes this is just a Perfect Video
I can name a very few superb airlines - Qantas, Swissair, Singapore Paa was the flag ship of the USA in the golden years
Now I cant stop watching this The Pan Am Girls and the Jet Clippers Sidney looks like he is on the last Clipper FANTASTIC!!!
Back when service was better and the stewardesses were all beautiful
great video 😍😍👏👏
I love it bro
Beautiful song...
Back when air travel was thought of as luxurious, adventurous and where people dressed up to fly. Now it's fights, dealing with Karens, all while packed into seats with plenty of room, if you're a hamster.
Sensacional!!!
All my bags are packed
I'm ready to go
I'm standin' here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye
But the dawn is breakin'
It's early morn
The taxi's waitin'
He's blowin' his horn
Already I'm so lonesome
I could die
So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go
'Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go
There's so many times I've let you down
So many times I've played around
I tell you now, they don't mean a thing
Ev'ry place I go, I'll think of you
Ev'ry song I sing, I'll sing for you
When I come back, I'll bring your wedding ring
So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go
'Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go
Now the time has come to leave you
One more time
Let me kiss you
Then close your eyes
I'll be on my way
Dream about the days to come
When I won't have to leave alone
About the times, I won't have to say
Oh, kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go
'Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go
But, I'm leavin' on a jet plane
Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh babe, I hate to go
Cool man
