    Apples! The solution to so many of the world's problems? Love it!
    I wonder if we are brainstorming ideas, could the local library come into the equation? I know I've saved a lot of money borrowing books, videos, tools, and seeds from the library. They also have air conditioning so on hot days, I don't need to cool down the house. I can just pop over there and read a book in the cool.

    This reminds me of Bill's quote: 'Though the problems of the world are increasingly complex, the solutions remain embarrassingly simple. The greatest change we need to make is from consumption to production, even if on a small scale, in our own gardens.' Seeing this, the biggest impacts are related to owning up to things that should be instinctive to us - food,heat... This is why I love permaculture, it is a peaceful and quite revolution that makes our lives better in every way. To garden!

      The people behind the Carbon Footprint movement eventually won't let you grow anything. After they introduce a Global Carbon tax, and take away your Cows, they will start Taxing and taking away your garden and eventually any means to grow anything will be illegal and a crime.

      You're making some significant assumptions. I and you probably are among those lucky enough to have the land, light, and related resources that a garden requires and to have the time, strength, and energy to operate one. Gratitude is in order, but so is honesty about the practical limitations.

      What does one do with production without consumption? It’s more a matter of what is being produced, how it is being produced, is there an authentic need and demand for it, and where do the products end up.

      Cold water won't get them clean, you need hot water to remove stains; you'll be buying new clothes more often if you don't use hot water to wash, but line drying does save more than half of that.
      You're missing the point.
      Planting a few trees out does that by far.

    More CO2 means a greener planet, and a more hospitable environment (less death) for more humans.

    • @1timothydillon
      @1timothydillon 6 месяцев назад +4

      It is a conundrum. Yes, CO2 is plant food, however, if it is kept below, say 500 feet in elevation, it would be vastly more advantageous, and readily available. However, when it is spread all over the atmosphere, across the entire planet, where it is not being sequestered back into the ground, is where people are having issues with its existence.

    • @vesc1389
      @vesc1389 6 месяцев назад +3

      Interesting, haven’t heard about surface CO2 remaining low compared to 500 ft and above. Real question for me is whether dialling back anthropomorphic carbon emissions will drive any kind of planetary changes. Two often quoted ideas regarding this: 1) temps lead atmospheric CO2 and 2) at 400 ppm the planet is near an all time low (and 2b… changes at this low amount, 0.04%, are unlikely to be the cause of warming). A counter argument goes something like this… warming, for whatever reason, is driving planetary changes we are not prepared for. In other words the planet may be on a course to change things to which nature will adapt but humans may not be able to. And then there is the timing issue. From a probabilistic point of view, modifying your personal “carbon footprint” may give you the warm and fuzzies, but it’s highly unlikely to make a difference in anything. Now, growing your own food and planting trees does contribute to two very important things, a cleaner environment and a nutrient rich diet. All for those! And considering 30-40% of food is wasted with the current distribution system, it’s very likely that gets an improvement… unless your efforts produce super-abundance and you’re unable to get rid of it fast enough. But then again, you’d likely compost that, so it gets a bit complicated 😂.
      Sidebar: building models is great fun, predicting by them has been utter folly so far.

      Too bad we can't stop the sun from changing our weather systems. If only we could go backwards into the ice age a little, then pause it there where it is most comfortable.

    • @nateross14
      @nateross14 6 месяцев назад

      This is not true, the Planet is quite adept at regulating CO2 and transferring it where it needs to be. All the Co2 doesnt just hang out up in the Stratosphere. There's this thing called weather that mixes up the air and all the Co2 eventually gets assimilated. Carbon Footprint is propaganda and false.

    • @1timothydillon
      @1timothydillon 6 месяцев назад

      @@vesc1389 I agree, anything people do "to reduce their carbon footprint", is just to pat themselves on the back. Have you noticed the news stories that are coming out attacking home gardens as having higher carbon emissions than industrial farms? Humans are the carbon the World Economic Forum really wants to reduce.

  • @ddwieland
    @ddwieland 6 месяцев назад +1

    I realize that "going pooless" is Wheaton humor, but what in the world does it have to do with carbon dioxide? The claim that washing with only water "saves" a quarter ton of CO2 sounds specious. What's the source of that claim?

    • @paulwheaton
      @paulwheaton  6 месяцев назад +2

      The amount of hot water saved in shower time is profound. And the amount of electricity to heat that water is substantial. The numbers we use are for montana, which uses a lot of coal power.
