not a native speaker so sorry for the mistakes track is amazing as a whole, but in a strictly sound design sense, each sound is so lovely hand crafted. you can feel the hours put into each layer of the sound, finding the perfect EQ, the perfect pitch and pan and its perfect place in space. The equalization in that snare is crafted to perfection so it can be repeated indefinitely without making you tired of hearing it, even though its mostly noise and that can be easy to become annoying if you're not careful. The pad is gentle but has a lot of metallic texture at the same time. Then they add a layer of the same pad but broken, which brings more crisp textures that helps balancing out the softness of the main pad in a musical sense, idk how to explain it but there's just something so honest about the beat. Like it's not pretending to be a groundbreaking drum pattern, but it just exists and fits perfectly in that world. Like it will continue existing forever even if nobody listens to it, just like every planet floating in outer space
This release sounds like nothing else. Artificial yet so human. Like a machine trying to gain sentience or emotion and becoming unstable at the same time. Some of the deepest and most intricate AE in a while, imho. Blows oversteps and move of ten out of the water.
Amazingly underrated album. You summed it up, the sound design and compositions are so otherwordly. Their most inaccessible alien sounding palate, but so melodic and emotional, really the best combination of the 2 you can dream up, realised on this album.
It's like thousands of tiny orange shards of metal smelling of citrus fruits pulsing rhythmically while enveloping my body entirely like a liquid metallic blanket made of orange juice.
+Thingie5 Autechre surely often have something very breath-minty vitamin fresh optimistic futuristic over their creations. Citric sharp and reflective effervescent in the foreground, and luscious, thirst-quenching melody and background trickle. Like cold water on your scalp on a hot summers day.
The ending where it's just the beat for one loop is very cool. The rest of the track is also very cool. This one and bladelores are the most joyful tracks on the album. Edit: I'm going to say it, every time I listen to this track, I think of Flume.
He was trying to imply this is what happens when you use analogue musical equipment. I remember when this album first came out many people were speculating it was done with that analogue elektron box (that Autechre must have received a version of just before it was released to the public - which makes sense since they were working with elektron and have mentioned before in old interviews how they get free gear all the time). But in reality, based on later interviews, they went on to say this album is entirely max / msp? (i.e. Digital). Correct me if I'm wrong.

shoutouts to how the cover of this album contrasts so brilliantly with the lush songs on the album
um, the cover looks like a fennec fox with a parrot beak looking at a levitating potato. which is exactly what the music sounds like.

I love you too.
It's just good music
Pure Melody

wonderful
It would be sick if someone or a band did a cover of this with a piano, bass, and drums.
