Can you please say more about the example of weft ikat shown for about 5 seconds beginning at 3:06? I bought a scarf just like this - complete with the elaborate macrame of the warp threads on either end - about 20 years ago in New York City and would appreciate learning where it was made. Thank you.
Thanks for the query. Weft ikat uses resist-dyeing for the weft yarns. The movement of the weft yarns in the weaving process means precisely delineated patterns are more difficult to achieve. The weft yarn must be adjusted after each passing of the shuttle to preserve the clarity of the patterns. Nevertheless, highly skilled artisans can produce precise weft ikat. Japanese weavers produce very accurate indigo and white weft ikat with small-scale motifs in cotton. Weavers in Odisha, India have replicated fine patterns in weft ikat. In Thailand, weavers make silk sarongs depicting birds and complex geometrical designs in seven-color weft ikat. In some precise weft ikat traditions (Gujarat, India), two artisans weave the cloth: one passes the shuttle and the other adjusts the way the yarn lies in the shed. As the weft is a continuous strand, aberrations or variations in the weaving tension are cumulative. Some weft ikat traditions incorporate this effect into their aesthetic. Patterns become transformed by the weaving process into irregular and erratic designs. Guatemalan ikat is well-noted for its beautiful "blurs." Sir you didn't mention the Sambalpuri ikkat which is also most complicated in comparison with patola. Odisha, Sambalpuri ikkat is more beautiful than Patola saree.
Can u explain what's the difference between the different thread count in ikkat. I hv come across many manufacturers who tell me their fabric is 60 , or 40, or 2/40, 80 etc. Leaves me all.confused. any Information will be greatly appreciated

Thank you for your explanations, sir, but the music is too loud and I find it difficult to follow your speech. I m very interested to buy high-quality Ikat, even though I know almost nothing about it, this is why I m very interested in your elucidations. I would love to be informed about reliable addresses where I can find good quality linen Ikat, if you can add them I would be grateful. For the moment I'll bookmark your interesting video, The real starting point of my research ( Years and years finding stupid prints in Paris don't count anymore...). And thanks!
Thanks a lot for the appreciation. You are right that music is too loud in this video. In the other videos, we have toned the music down. As soon as we get Linen Ikat in stock, we shall update it on our website charu.org.in
