    Brings back a lot of wonderful memories. Did that run about 8 years ago with my two sons in a Mohawk 16 tandem and a Mohawk 14 solo. It looks like a lot more fun than when you are carrying 120lbs of camping gear. We portaged our gear at Dick's Creek, 2nd Ledge, Painted Rock, and portaged everything at Bull Sluice. By then, we were exhausted.
    Excellent video. I loved the way that you showed the rapid, and then gave the paddlers perspective. Watching it let me relive those, "Oh, Shit" moments, thinking, "cross draw!" , River right", backpaddle, "eddy left!".
    Thank you! We, open boaters, can run anything a kayak can run. The difference is.....we do it with style! (And, we can carry more than a six pack of beer)

    Nice film. I enjoyed the moves and the music. Looks like a great river at that level. Thanks for taking us along for a virtual ride with you.

    I ran Section 3 tandem with my dad in 1981. Fond memories. Portaged Bull Sluice, but ran everything else without swamping. Great memories. Need to get back there.

    Nothing like some good ole banjo music for that fateful run. I think I heard Ned Beaty squealing at one point. I've run this many times and hands down one of my favs.

    Wow, even back when I first saw Deliverance, I always thought that taking a canoe down rapids in general was certain suicide, but especially when watching that movie. I’m definitely impressed with your skills!
    I grew up in Georgia, and camped and hiked along the Chattooga, as well as many other southern Appalachian areas, growing up. I’m up in Pittsburgh now, and rafted the Upper Youghiougheny just last week!

    Thank you for the different shots. I'm hoping to run this Sunday. It is helpful to rookies to be able to see before you go.

    Enjoyed that, you have some skill in that open canoe on some of those more challenging rapids. Greetings from the UK.

    Just finished watching the movie, Deliverance. Cult classic of a movie. I enjoyed reading lots of the info on the web about the movie and film locations. It's nice watching your video. I hope to take a canoe trip down that river too.

      +Maynard Thanks for watching, the river is a truly beautiful place to visit. Check out Section II as a warm up for the bigger sections below; just be sure in your abilities and be aware of the dangers!

    Damn fine video. What a beautiful day! Wow I miss Appalachia even more than I thought I would. Live in Idaho now, has its own kind of beauty but I sure miss Virginia, west Virginia and Carolina my old stomping grounds.

    Nice video. It almost put me right back on the river in an open boat. The Chattooga is one of my favorite places on Earth, and your video just "felt" right. BTW, while the video's title has it right, your description says you put on at Sandy Ford instead of Earl's.

    Hey guys, nice vid. Do you regularly overinflate your flotation for extra bouyancy and maybe roll ability? Thanks

    • @hinesight5323
      @hinesight5323  6 лет назад +3

      More air, less water= easier to roll.

    Wow, that looked easy, higher water than I did. I just did a 3 day from earls fort to bull sluice at 1.5 water in feeezing weather. FBRA

    What kinds of c1 do we see there? Btw compared to kayak... what is "easier" to use in such a water?

    As I am working on upgrading my skills, I loved this video. Showed plenty of difficultness, but also gives me promise that in time I think I can achieve this. Need a stretch not quite so long, I think. From Earl's Ford to Thrifty Ferry, appears to be about 10 miles. That would quite a work out if that intense the whole time. I'm down in Augusta, looking for stretches with class 2-3 intermittently. Headed to Broad River next. Expect to take on the French Broad before hitting Chattooga. Any short Cl. 2-3 runs in similar areas would be appreciated.

    I really appreciated your open boat skills. What Madriver canoe is it that you're paddling??

    • @hinesight5323
      @hinesight5323  6 лет назад +1

      HI Doug, the boat in the video is a Mad River Outrage, Royalex material.

    • @dougpacanoemanburns4294
      @dougpacanoemanburns4294 6 лет назад +2

      I have a Mad River Fantasy - 13 ft - does pretty good on the inbetween flat water but has 4 inches of rocker front and back so it does well in the WW too.

    For all those jerks making fun of that newb in the purple 'canoe' saying that their incontinent grandfathers could paddle a boat better... just stop. These rapids are much harder than you think. If you think you could do better, go out to the local paddling store, buy a purple boat and YOU try it.

    ANYONE who paddles with an Iliad paddle is awesome. Because if you are not paddling with it, you can use it to pillage villages.

      YES!!! Thanks for watching and commenting! I was just chatting the other day about that with my buddy who gave me that paddle, a true blade and force to be reckoned with. Still got it, still use it as well as my old Blue Hole OCA.
