Ant, you really are getting so good at producing absolutely fantastic series! They contain a wealth of information, with archive footage & photo's, stunning vistas, really poignant soundtracks, & excellent narration from your good self. So much so, you inspired me to spend 2 nights camping & kayaking the coast there, by the waterfall on the beach, where I'll be going again soon, once the weather breaks. As a result I have decided to become a patreon to you, for the pleasure you have brought me. Thanks & warm regards.....Urban Geeze.
Have only recently discovered this channel. Fantastic. Brilliantly researched and presented. I love the comparison between now and then and the drone shots are great. I'm now a big follower. Many thanks.
This has been an amazing series, Ant. The research, the in-depth knowledge, the pictures of yesteryear all top notch. Thank you so much for sharing, Ant. I've really enjoyed it.
Watching this has made me feel very nostalgic. As a young lad in 1968 we had a family holiday in Scarborough. I knew that the line had closed three years' earlier so did lots of exploring. As the track had only just been lifted the route and much infrastructure were still intact. I remember well walking from the junction up to Prospect Hill and West Cliff station. It's strange to see it now. Thanks for an excellent video. I particularly like the way you've included stills from the past and evocative background music. . . .
I've really enjoyed this five part series around Scarborough & Whitby, Your videos are so informative about the history of the railways. Beautiful part of the world too. Thank you for doing all the videos you do.
WOW!! That was awesome. How you get all the old still footage never fails to amaze me and you description and narrative is of documentary quality. BBC ETC Take note !!!
You really do make some magnificent films about these disused railway tracks. That beeching and Marples destroyed some marvellous pieces of engineering it was a national disgrace. Keep making these wonderful films one of my ambitions is to e-bike the Scarborough to Whitby cinder track and watching your films has inspired me thank you very much.
Thank you Ant for all your hard work to make these videos for us to admire and sorry about your neetled legs you definitely took one for the team there, looking forward to seeing more of your AMAZING films in the future, thanks again Ant, Pete 👍
Brilliant footage - both old and new! I had wondered how trains managed to descend from the end of Larpool Viaduct to the town station. That Scarborough - Whitby ex-railway route is very scenic although it's a rather bumpy cycle ride. I'm looking forward to the Whitby - Loftus video!
Ant, can I just say, this is one of the finest video series you have done, being a massive fan of Whitbys railways, this is also a personal thing for me and my family, as I took my them on the cinder track when we stayed in Whitby when my boys were younger....i too followed that trackbed from Prosect Junc down to Whitby wirh my then young Sons.....thanks for the memories mate...❤
So glad you enjoyed them Jon. It's the first time I've really planned and laid out a series like this so to see it all pan out as well as my enjoyment for being out there in the first place it's given me the incentive to get out and do another. I've already started the journey beyond Whitby I'll start putting them out early autumn. But what next, Bakewell to Buxton or the Woodhead?
Amazing series.my father came from Hartlepool we used to visit his family by bus and train we lived at Staxton then .Bus ride into Scarborough where I live now. then to platform 1a then train to Hartlepool.Great memories.Thankyou .
Fantastic end to the series, thanks. I always take the Pickering - Whitby NYMR train when visiting the area and this really brings the final and less-scenic part of the journey to life. The railway around Whitby itself was quite something! Incidentally, I think the NYMR trains actually leave Network Rail track before they enter Whitby itself, the platform they use and the run-round loop being NYMR’s private track for its exclusive use. On the return trip, they rejoin NR by phoning the Signaller to request the token to Grosmont on the Esk Valley Line (unsure whether or not this uses an RETB token), this being handed back again by phone before leaving NR again just East of Grosmont and turning off to return to NYMR metals in the station sidings. Only certain NYMR locos are certified to use the Main Line, so locos will drop off their stock in the platform at Grosmont before shuttling back to Whitby with the next train. NYMR passengers can therefore either do the whole trip by through train, or have to change trains at Grosmont.
This is an excellent series... I watched it as i was planing cycling the Trail but this (and the other videos/films) taught me so much more. When i cycled the Trail in August (Whitby to Scarborough) I looked at the path to my right and wondered were it when and why it was there this answered all my questions. Thanks.
Thank you so much for this celebration of the English landscape. Looking back at those wonderfully evocative photos of the line as it was, it's almost painful to see what we've lost through time. Thankfully Larpool Viaduct remains, to inspire.
Great five parter Ant. Shame they closed them lines down as they had the most spectacular views. I’ve followed you from the beginning and I’m amazed how your videos have evolved as time gone by. Keep up the good work can’t wait to see what comes next 👏👏👏
Superb conclusion to a marvellous journey from Scarborough to Whitby. Brilliant use of archive material and drone footage, gives an excellent view of the impressive engineering structures on the lines into Whitby. Well done!
Thank you Ant, what an excellent series this has been! Whitby is my favourite place I've ever been to, your passion for what you do is fantastic to watch ! I've really enjoyed it. ❤😊
Yep, that was a good series, thanks Ant, you've brought together some great footage, lots of info, superb photos and vids and then you tell us there's more!!!!!! Keep 'em coming👍👍👍👍👍
Also thank goodness the Viaduct and most of the trackbed are used fior the benefit of the area. I think I'll keep coming back to this area. Beautiful footage you have taken of it! ❤
Absolutely fantastic video Ant 👍🏼😊. Some amazing old photos as well. Made all the more special because we’ve stayed in Ruswarp on holiday several times over the years and walked the route into Whitby under Larpool Viaduct (along the side of the remaining line) many many times. Looking at your video, I think we may have possibly walked the Prospect Hill route one time as well without realising. I’ll have taken photos for sure and must dig them out. We’re definitely due another visit. It’s been far too long 😊
Superb footage. Drone filming amazing. The old photos and music all blended well. Brilliant sights and scenery and walks. What a hard work work you put into this. Absolutely first class. Well done. Thank you.
Another wonderful video Ant. You really do get the balance of soundtrack, historic archive photos, glorious drone footage and present day views perfectly captured.
Ant, not to ask a silly question: When you say Gas Works it that what was also called City Gas years back? This vid has so many great B&W and color photos plus the great vintage film footage. You did a outstanding job at putting it all together along with the drone video. This was such a treat to watch after getting home from work.....
Fantastic end to the series I love the way you mix in the old videos and photos with the here and now it’s amazing how such much has been overtaken by nature .. keep up the good work 🤙
What a fantastic series Ant, Whitby is one of my favourite places, can't wait to get back there though I normally do my walking there in winter when the crowds have gone!
Excellent conclusion to a excellent series ,one of my relatives worked at West Cliff station for over 20 years ,his two regrets were, one ,that it closed and second he didn't take a station name sign for keepsake after closure
Wow! Thanks for that wonderful set of videos, Ant. A lost set of lines, but leaving some wonderful walks and scenery in its wake! Well done ! Thanks so much!

It is clear to see how hard you have worked all throughout & your dedication & effort has been very much appreciated. So much so I've subscribed today. Looking forward to watching many more lovely Videos too!

Thanks Ant for a great series. At Whitby the platform you were walking along is the new one used by the heritage trains. The platform on the opposite side is used by the Northern trains. Friend who’s a NYMR volunteer says the line is controlled from the signal box at Nunthorpe which is at the Middlesbrough end of the Whitby to Middlesbrough line.
Hiya, I’ve just watched the 4 films you did of the Scarborough to Whitby line, I’m lucky enough to be able to walk and cycle this route and I also deliver to one of the stations you mentioned, but I’m amazed at how much extra info you’ve managed to pack in, it really was brilliant to watch, thank you 😀😀👏🏻👏🏻
Brilliant video Ant, that junction and then the decent is something else. Amazing to think they run steam trains down there. Thanks again for this fantastic video. Chris
Fantastic series ,thank you Ant , brilliant efforts, i liked prospect hill signal box the engineering that went into getting the cables and point rodding to work correctly with regards to over track perspectives, quite amazing, extremely sad to see it all gone. Those ole boys knew a thing or two about building things to last .
Brilliant and interesting content look forward to the next series. Great music, drone shots, history and perspective. Thoroughly enjoyable and great watching! Cant wait!!
Hi ant thank you for showing parts of the Scarborough to Whitby disused railway line RUclips video it was a really good and on the part 3 and 4 episode when it was showing the railway carriage holiday place and the Larpool Viaduct I have walked along that route in April last year. And the parts on your next RUclips episode by doing the Esk valley of the Middlesbrough to Whitby disused railway line I have got some photos of 2 disused railway viaducts a disused railway station and a disused railway tunnel that I have walked along that route back with a walking club last month. So here are all of the photos of the old Middlesbrough to Whitby disused railway line.
Great video Ant. Its amazing how the railway went through all these hills and the valley. To think there is only one branch left now is sad really considering all the work they would have done to make it possible.

Greetings I don’t know your name but I am fascinated about this section of Railway archaeology on your channel if I like to say this to you you’ve done a superb job with the information and all that I’m still trying to get my brain around how that Railway worked but it’s most interesting I look forward to your next RUclips on the That you are going to do but once again I just want to say thank you very much you’ve got a beautiful RUclips channel with the Railway archaeology and you know what you’re talking about so absolutely fantastic yours Jeff Melbourne Australia
Hello Jeffrey thank you very much for your kind words. I'm so pleased you have been enjoying them. I thoroughly enjoy getting out and doing these for my own interest and health too. I'll be back in the area in the autumn to continue the journey North
Thank you again Ant for bringing us some most amazing film. What's your secret with the drone? Everytime we put our birdy up we are forever getting harrassed by some idiot even though we both have a licence to fly! Do you put the whirly bird up dead early whilst all the "Karen's" are still tucked up in bed???
I've never actually had an issue with anyone. Most of the upcoming isle of wight stuff was done early hours onwards. I won't do it over built up areas like houses etc it's usually away from anything
@@TrekkingExploration thanks Ant! Looking forward to the IOW stuff. Have been a couple of years ago for a short break and took the steam loco from Havenstreet as a return. The station manager let me take some cheeky photos of the station and inside the signal box! I’d be happy to send these if you could use them?
God bless the railway nerds who took it upon themselves to document our old transport history. Lovely stuff again, Ant! 👍
Glad you enjoyed it Ian thank you
Excellent! I've recently been to Whitby myself and did the walk from prospect hill to Whitby town under the viaduct...not easy!

Amazing you seem to make videos about places i go or work Yorkshire,Norfolk and east midlands
EXCELLENT PRESENTATION.
Thanks very much 😊
Greetings I don’t know your name but I am fascinated about this section of Railway archaeology on your channel if I like to say this to you you’ve done a superb job with the information and all that I’m still trying to get my brain around how that Railway worked but it’s most interesting I look forward to your next RUclips on the
That you are going to do but once again I just want to say thank you very much you’ve got a beautiful RUclips channel with the Railway archaeology and you know what you’re talking about so absolutely fantastic yours Jeff Melbourne Australia
Hello Jeffrey thank you very much for your kind words. I'm so pleased you have been enjoying them. I thoroughly enjoy getting out and doing these for my own interest and health too. I'll be back in the area in the autumn to continue the journey North
Saw this by chance, excellent imformation
Glad you enjoyed it Tony. Thank you
Thank you again Ant for bringing us some most amazing film.
