Dude thank you so much for letting me be a part of this episode!! And for unlocking my fear of alien abductions again!

Great point about the down to Earth part of the story. This is not the first movie based on a real life alien abduction claim. There was one made in 1975, The UFO Incident, about the 1961 claim by Betty and Barney Hill. Alien abduction stories were part of SciFi lore since at least the 1970s.

As someone who gets panicky at the idea of being smothered and throat-raped, this film had one of the hardest-to-watch scenes and afterward, I had no problem whatever believing the traumatic horror the protagonist lived in.
It also did a lot t draw attention to the true nature of the world-that humans will almost reflexively reject something that challenges their worldview, instead turning on the source of the discomforting notion in an attempt to quash it.

The last movie my dad took me to before graduating High school and leaving for the Military. Lots of personal nostalgia and memories for this movie. Thank you for the review. Excellent 😊

Though movies like Fire in the Sky are slow burners, I Bought the DVD and keep coming back to it again. Its a fascinating character study and that ending is classic. Much like The Mothman Prophecies, its box office take was not good and its slow moving and neither are either movies much like the actual stories. Also they're not boring movies. That, I think can be attributed to the actors skill,

Great review. I enjoyed both presenters comments. This movie scared me to death as a kid, in fact I'm pretty sure it traumatised me. I too had many alien t-shirts and posters and had an unhealthy obsession with them. Anyways, that's for rekindling my nightmares. 😂😂😂

I remember hanging out with Travis Walton at a MUFON convention and like you said he was not a fan of this movie. Personally I liked it, the alien scenes were creepy as hell and were pretty unique for the time.

This film makes for great entertainment. It is a fun romp. Just as The Exorcist and Poltergeist can not be used to prove the supernatural, this story should not be considered evidence for Alien Abduction. This has not stopped individuals from concluding that such films are documentaries. What a silly world in which we live.

The interior of the alien spaceship has a bit of a Giger vibe.

    Here's a deal:
You tell me a movie that Noble Willingham was in where he wasn't great
and I'll tell you why you're wrong...
I thought the alien parts were the most compelling feature of the film, particularly
how the condition of the ship and its lack of cleanliness gave it an air of realism
akin to the Nostromo. You just know that group had a "Brett" and "Parker"
    bitching about their jobs...
It's a decent movie (Garner helped a lot) that keeps the viewer's interest, but I'm fairly
confident Close Encounters would still be considered the best alien abduction film.
And, technically, I'd have to count Galaxy Quest as a better one as well.

It's funny watching movies that when I first saw them back in the day, I knew they'd become cult classics of the future. And _Fire in The Sky_ is no exception. Great cast, great direction and great interior alien ship. This movie was totally underappreciated when it first came out. Movie critics can be such A-holes.

I think the real world Travis Walton is a fraud, but the film is pants-wettingly scary in scenes (particularly the part they made "more realistic" over Walton's version of events).
