I just finished hooking my first 8"x8" rug. I tried to move around the background so I would not have straight line stitching. However, that made me hook on diagonal quite a bit. Since this was a small piece, it was kind of a struggle. Is this the correct way to add movement? I've watched alot of videos and this is not clearly shown. In your video you went at an angle as well but I couldn't tell which holes you were working in to create this effect. If you could help clarify this for me I would greatly appreciate it. I have never seen an actual hooked rug other than pictures or videos so I'm trying to learn that way. My closest store is 30 miles away and between the current health concerns and the weather, I have not been able to make the trip. I ordered one of your hooks and am excited to receive it. It should arrive any day now. Thank you for any advice that you could share. I enjoy your videos.

Hi Linda! I think I actually saw your rug on a Facebook group - the in progress picture looked great! I’m deducing from your question, that you’d like to hook in more whimsical lines to add movement to your background? One easy way to achieve these types of lines is to draw some swirls and curves directly onto your pattern. Once you draw them in, it will become clear which holes to hook in to make that curve. Hopefully I can make a video of what I mean. Feel free to keep in touch with any other questions you may have.

Hi Linda! Sorry for the delayed reply! If you'd like to add more movement to your hooking, try drawing some squiggly lines into your background! That's what I did when I first started. I hope that helps and I hope to explain this in a video very soon!
