    This software is incredible! However as somewhat of a purist, this seems like an easy way to detach yourself from the craft and will bring us more of those extremely artificial images we see on Instagram. At this point it's even comical how many images look identical because of overediting!
    Yes, you do have more time to shoot and less for editing. But will you strive to get better and authentic pictures with unbelievable lighting (sun rays illuminating everything perfectly... that is pure pleasure to capture) or will you snap a picture and move all of your sliders to the max? In my opinion, editing is a big part of the process, but it is what shows your skills as someone who has a vision.
    Don't get me wrong, this is truly a very useful and incredible tool! But it requires taste and expertise. Otherwise it comes dangerously close to numbing us down to real experiences and hiding the real gems.
    Yet again, love the software and the video! ♥

      @LukasZ92. 4 года назад +3

      You've already mentioned correctly, when used with knowledge and care, better said "if"... This is exact the problem, 95% won't do that, crank up all the sliders, especially those who have no idea from photography or real post processing. In short words, yes it will definitely destroy photography!! And the very sadest thing about it, people who use those tools with no care, than will critique natural (actually real) processed images from other photographers, because their brain only know those far too over saturated colors only.

    This will require me to totally change my 40 years of photography. I always shoot to capture what my eye sees. Lens, camera, angle, light, all of it, trying to re create what my eyes see...even if my eye sees a blown out sky or a face too warm from an evening sunset. In other words, for a lot of us, me too, photography is about capturing what we see with our eyes. That's been the goal of photography since it's beginning. Then came editing software to achieve that goal by correcting slight deviance in the lens, etc...needs contrast, maybe bit more color, etc...still trying to re create what the human eye sees. Now, comes this, Artificial Intelligence. the philosophical imperative, re creating reality in a photo, is now gone. Sure it's cool. fun. goofy. I mean the body shaping? I need that. I can lose 25 pounds with the click of a mouse. don't like my hair color? click. want to delete those hangover red bloodshot eyes? click. Thing is...no more reality, what is now called a "fake". Cloudy day? screw it. Add that artificial Sun stuff, and presto, you've changed the weather. Where does this end? Should be a warning on AI photos..."what you are about to see may not be real". I'm all for using Luminar AI to make my photo look as close to what my eyes see, and the convenience is nice. However, it's going to take me a real epiphany to change and accept this goofy make your own reality photography. All that said, i'll probably get it. what the hell.

    • @jetlag1488
      @jetlag1488 3 года назад

      I know this is an old comment and in the end you were pretty accepting of AI editing, but I'll say this just in case: what you have to realize is that AI is a tool, just like a paint brush or a conventional photo editing software. The fantastical larger than life stuff that programs like Luminar AI and Topaz Studio are capable is stuff photographers have been doing for ages. It's just easier to do now. The line between photography and art began to blur even back in the early days of photography when people did composites and matte painting with physical photos. Photoshop came out 31 years ago and ever since then the line between photography and art has been getting more and more blurred exponentially. I'd say the tipping point where it became natural to do drastic changes to the colours and lighting as well as removing and adding things to photos was back in the late 2000's. I don't think AI editing has eliminated the process of thinking about lighting, colours, shapes, the position of subjects, the amount of subjects, leading lines etc. when you take photos. It's just made it easier to change or correct those in post, as well as opened up photography to more people.

    • @martysender5539
      @martysender5539 3 года назад

      @@jetlag1488 it either captures reality as your eye pretty much sees it, or you make it "art". I dont use AI because it's fake, i.e. not reality. I'm not saying it's somehow wrong to do it. I do believe you should tell the viewer though you used AI.

    I am SUPER curious with all of this, especially the sky replacement and all that: When does a photo stop being "authentic"?
    At what point does the photographer not matter as much as most everything can be changed/fixed or swapped out?

    edit: I don't mean to throw any shade at all btw, your before photos are gorgeous without editing

    • @AniaB
      @AniaB 4 года назад +2

      the sad reality is in the world of instagram you have to make ur images pop in a split second while the viewer is scrolling (same goes for youtube thumbnails), it almost doesnt matter what the reality is because the views, likes and engagement are what brings value. in the world where everyone has access to a high quality camera, where your PHONE can shoot better quality photos than what comes out unedited from a dslr (!!!) how do you stand out? thinking about the times that people get excited about an image, it’s never the one that they too can execute. it’s always “how did you do that, what app did you use” etc etc. 🥴

    Luminar used by experienced photographers or photo editors (like Photoshop users) will prove to be a great time saver, particularly as it improves over the next few years. It is already joined by ON1 Photo Raw and to a lesser extent by Photoshop with its latest Sensei filters. The danger is that today's generation are used to being indoors with various devices like tablets and smartphones. They will quickly master these tools to generate a large volume of "created" photos with the same background, flock of birds, sunbeams etc. This will eventually kill of a lot of "real" photography and replace it with augmented reality. It has already started on social but a lot of the pictures aren't realistic so easily spotted. That is going to change quickly in the next few years.

  • @antoniorenoir

    Truly impressive stuff in terms of blending AI with traditional editing techniques. I do echo the concerns of people claiming this can lead to "fake and unprofessional" photos; there will surely be lots of users who crank the sliders and edits beyond reason. However, if used in moderation (as Tyler does), I think it can simplify the workflow of those who are serious photographers (e.g. someone who brackets shots for landscapes) and add a new artistic element throughout the field.

    I am running into all kinds of problems trying to apply a template to more than 1 image. For some reason it looks like you can't just select multiple images and then hit apply template. You need to apply it to 1 image then 'copy adjustments' of that image and paste them on to the images you want the template to be applied to. The issue is it's copying the colour temp and tint values with this and so totally changing the white balance of all the images.
    So unless every single one of your photos are taken under identical lighting conditions then I don't see how you can mass apply templates/edits using this program but I am surely missing something aren't I because that is a very basic function.
    I have tried manually setting the white balance to 'As Shot' before copying or syncing but it just ignores this and copies whatever colour temp and tint values that original photo had and applies them to every single photo in the whole collection.
    To be clear, all I want to do is apply a template to a load of images. Any ideas? Thanks.

    It looks oversaturated, overcooked most times. The sky replacement in most cases unnatural. It is like a smile with way too white veneers rather than natural teeth. I will take the latter every time. This could be useful in some cases with limitations, but it seems too easy to overdo it.

    • @phlotographer
      @phlotographer 4 года назад

      all of the adjustments can be determined by personal use and of course you can use a camera and take an image of a sky and use your own and maybe even adjust the sky to your liking or maybe multiple likings and save them all based on the direction of light and how you as creator like the sky you will use. Create folders of various skies and direction of light for easy finding that as the creator, you liked when it existed and then use the appropriate one that you created on an image that you again created. Don't tell anyone and who will know?
      Then if you have a friend that does this type of image creation, send that person both files and see what he creates from the same images. Maybe not the same result at all but would you have known if you had not already done the same task? Think about "what if I like his result better than mine?" Who is right? Is it important?

    Luminar 4 is crashing while exporting image on Mac OS Big Sur. And its happening from last 3 months.
    Frequency of update is too slow to compete with other products.
    Though it's a good product but customer support and overall strategy of SKYLUM is not that great.
