Great review! I totally agree that Thousand Sons are strong in ZM. Pavoni goes a long way to speed up terminators, and you can't go wrong with Biomancy to help with combats or Pyromancy for board control. ZM is the only time I'd consider Evoker of pain, but I agree there are better options. Just to note, I think the Osiron sadly can not make use of Fortress of the Mind as they are Fearless and so can't make a reaction that would grant an invulnerable save. Which is a real shame, as it would be so useful. Also, I belive night fight and fear would not reduce a models leadership value for a psychic test. Which is a nice bonus! As for Æther weapons, I have had some success with the Æther-Fire Magna-Cannon. It can be good on an Osiron (for the good leadership) against tactical marines on an objective (to remove the FnP) and (less commonly) veterans. The Æther-Blasters are surprisingly good at hunting down vehicles. The weapon is more like a short-range but mobile autocannon. It's just a shame you can do much to help the odds of getting the strength bonus!
Thanks. These are all good points. But I do think that Psychic Test are subject to Night and Fear penalties. I think the rule says they are not subject to special rules that will help or automatically pass leadership checks. So psychic checks are always done on base leadership with negative modifiers.
@fareastwargaming so the reason I think this is due to the bottom paragraph on page 200 of the rulebook. It says "special rules that allow a model to modify or automatically pass Leadership test have no effect on psychic checks". I take fear and night fight to be a modifier, so it would have no effect. But I'd definitely be interested to hear if you read the rule in the same way.
Richard here. The way I read that rule is that it's to limit the upside potential on the psychic check. Fear and Night Fighting are negative modifiers. Fear and Night Fighting are designed to try imitate the mental strain of both fighting something you fear and something potentially unseen. I feel these would play on a psycher as well. Though, I can see how both interpretations are viable. Also can see how making leadership lower (mainly from NF) during the first 2 turns can be overly crippling to TSons for mediocre Prosperine Arcana. Especially with the leaning of shorter games in 2.0
This was great to see though stacking Pavoni is a sick move. Magister of Prospero in a unit of 10 claw terminators, a consul of your choosing, now you're +9mv. Telepathy on one character to shut down the charge reaction and boom you have mv16 terminators going where they want. The combos are very engaging for this legion.
I don't think we considered this combination. Like we said, we are sure there are combos of the rules and powers that really work in certain cases like this.
Really enjoyed watching your review . Cause we are debating this at our local gaming club can you tell me if the asphyx bolter benefits from the fury of the legion rule? Thank you
That's a great question about Asphyx Bolters. Richard: I'd be inclined to say 'yes'. Because it's a upgrade/downgraded bolter. Even though the Fury of the Legion rule states that it applies to 'bolters' and not other bolt weapons, such as combi-bolters, bolt pistols. For me, the Asphyx Bolter is a 'bolter' and I'd let it play against me as such. Though, I would understand the hardline 'its not a bolter, bolter' POV.
Yes! I've been waiting for this one.
Me too 🎉
Glad you enjoyed it. Part 2 coming soon.

@fareastwargaming I get it, and it is not a straightforward or user-friendly legion. It also has a high risk reward factor.
Couldn't agree more about it not being user-friendly. Definitely not beginner friendly.
Thanks team, while I have Liber Hereticus I’ve never read the Thousand Sons rules, so great to get the insight while I’m painting…
Check out the Part 2 to see the unit reviews.
Magnus did nothing wro-
Oh..
